Hi, I know its been a while since my last post. This video took a while and towards the end of it may come across as rushed, but i didn't want to wait any longer. Can start working on Part 2 if you wish or I can start another project. Its up to you guys. And thank you for the support recently. Hope we can we create something big together!

Actually, without the benefit of hindsight, it made perfect sense for Holland to try remain neutral (but allied leaning) in WWII.... but neutrality needs both sides to trust each other... and Churchill's attempted but failed invasion of neutral Norway made sure that Hitler would not trust Britain or France regarding neutral countries. If Holland had sided with the Allies, it would have unnecessarily stretched the allied defence line all the way up towards the North Sea... so it is debatably if an Allied Holland would have helped or hindered the defence of France much.

Great points! I think if the Netherlands sided with the allies early on it would of aided the allies defense, just like what was said in the video. However if they were to side with the allies late, it would of stretched their line and negatively affect the defense. That's also partially why France didn't aid them much.

Remember that the invasion of The Netherlands was a major feint to draw in Allied reinforcements to the north. The actual main thrust of the German forces was always going to be the Ardennes region. After the Germans blitzed through the Ardennes and broke through at Sedan, they cut off the Allied forces from their supply anyway. The only thing, in hindsight, that could have seriously hampered the German forces' progress was if the Allies had stationed significant forces in the Ardennes.

The invasion actually started on the 9th of May when the Brandenburg division crossed the border in Dutch uniforms

You can't talk about the invasion without mentioning the bombing of Rotterdam! Completely destroyed the city and played a major role in the Dutch surrender. Today it is full of modern buildings and looks vastly different from Amsterdam for that reason.

Ay first view lol Looks like it's going to be a good vid too (I've added this edit a good 20 lines below my original comment in an effort to make it at least somewhat less conspicuous. That being said... I thoroughly enjoyed the vid! You've got a good voice & cadence for narration & your choice of topic is very unique - I had not seen a single video that covered this part of WWII until now, which is a feat of no small proportion. I have only one critique to offer: towards the end of the video, you mention a specific Dutch unit, a "Corps" type. However, you mispronounced the word corps. This is a HUGE red flag to a majority of the RU-vid history community, especially the military history groups (even more so when concerning WWII.) The proper pronunciation of corps is "CORE." The "p" & "s" are silent. I only mention this because of how much shit you will get for the mistake; mispronouncing such a common military term will be a rookie mistake that can be hard to overcome, especially for a smaller channel, such as yours. Please take my criticism as evidence of my support for your work, btw - I would love to see your channel grow into something of a real community. As I mentioned before, your vids are pretty damn good! Otherwise, keep it up! I'm about to binge watch ur entire catalog after I finish this comment & I look forward to part two of this video. Thank you for the content and good luck! 👍

Not mentioned is division of public opinion in the Netherlands. The Hitler-Stalin (Molotov-Ribbentrop) pact was still in force, so the Dutch Communist Party refused to oppose the German invasion, insisting that it was just one fascist state attacking another. This position was maintained until the German invasion of the USSR, at which point the Dutch Communist party line changed when they decided to oppose the Germans. This subject came up within the last few years when a proposed statue of an executed Dutch Communist was opposed on the grounds that she, and her party, were very late in deciding that the Germans were the enemy, and thus did not deserve to be memorialized.

Please try to pronounce the Dutch names a bit more accurately - I know it's hard, but please try. It really helps, otherwise it's difficult to follow the paths of the invading forces. As the Dutch tell it, it was the near total destruction of the centre of Rotterdam and the ultimatum that Amsterdam would be next that caused the final surrender.

Indeed. For example: the Dutch didn't have any tanks. Only one FT-17 for testing. The testing was done before the German invasion and the FT was dismantled.

In 1939 the United States were ahead of the Dutch in military strength. Even the likes of Belgium had a higher military strength than the Netherlands. Still doesn't take away from the Dutch men who fought valiantly. 🙏🙏

Interesting stuff, problem is, you are unable to pronounce the names of places and people, making it impossible to follow. You should take a language course next time.

@@EveryThingHistory_ Thank you, cause this is interesting stuff, yet as a german speaker and also having an ear for dutch, I find it very hard to understand and translate. Better than outsourcing would be simply to take a German and or Dutch class and make sure it's taught phonetically, not grammatically. The former will speed up the process many fold.

@@AudieHolland Hmm those numbers are suspiciously equal 🤔, anyway Germany was thankfully not so cruel in treating their western and Atlantic as well as their Nordic brothers and neighbors, only Jews and minorities were systematically prosecuted, the POW camps on the western front were a walk in the park compared to the brutality and savagery seen on the Eastern front, in Poland and especially in Russia.
@AudieHolland
@AudieHolland Год назад
@@bakielh229 Although the Germans taking part in the invasion of the Low Countries were partly green SS troops who did not always behave. Look up: Wormhoudt Massacre Also, like in WWI, regular German troops often drove recently captured POWs before them, using them as human shield in the hopes the defenders would not fire at their own men.
