I think Walmart and Target carrying vinyl is probably turning a lot of people onto records that didn’t realize they were still (or ever) a thing. Which, in the end, is good for all of us.
I appreciate you being truthful about Walmart's Vinyl , most record shops shame us for buying music at Wal-Mart saying it hurts them everytime we give money to the big stores. But a deal is a deal, thankyou .
My closest shop is over two hours away. So I'm glad Walmart has them. I work in the pharmacy, so I walk past the vinyl section every day (on purpose, lol)
@@DaveAnchovies Dude, why would I wait a week or more to get an album I could pick up at work? You’re an idiot. I’ll buy albums Walmart doesn’t sell at a record store anyway: their selection isn’t that big, and most collectors already have those classic albums. Get over it. If a record store can’t compete with Walmart’s limited selection, then it’s a shitty record store.
I’d rather just go to the Walmart 15 minutes away in the town I live rather than drive an hour for an independent shop or wait multiple days to ship it too me. If the independent shop has the lower prices, then I will buy them, if they have higher prices, screw them, I’m going to Walmart.
Nothing wrong with buying vinyl from wal mart and target. I have bought the majority of my records from mom and pop shops, but I want these records because they look dope. Fuck all these vinyl elitists, buy what you want and listen to what you want
Ok true story - this just freaking happened: I called up Walmart to hold one of the two copies until I could make my way through the snowstorm to get there. They said sure. I finally get there - roads are nearly un-drivable and yep, you guessed it...THEY CANT FIND IT! They spent a half hour looking for it. I looked immediately for the second copy when I first arrived but I did not see it - I assumed they set that one aside as well. After all that, I decided to look one more time in the albums..and there it was! It was hiding under Beetles Revolver album. That awesome vinyl green ...and justice for all...looks great surrounded by hills of snow.
I've had similar issues with walmart where site said only one left and called to hold it , nobody knew what I was talking about when I got there after an hour drive , luckily it was still on rack (gnr appetite hologrove vinyl btw)
Being an old school Metallica fan, the whole "walmart exclusive Metallica vinal" is a joke. This is the exact thing the guys in Metallica would have made fun of back in the day. Your band would have been called a sell out
"Sellout... I'm not crazy about the word. We're all entrepreneurs. To me, I don't care if you own a furniture store or whatever - the best sign you can put up is SOLD OUT." - Bill Withers
@@joellindelof how about hypocritical. The only reason I mention the word "sell out" is because in the early days Metallica would roast any band that had "exclusive walmart color vinyl ". Me personally ? I agree that when you set out to do something you try to take to the highest level you can. Put it this way. If the Metallica of 30 years ago would have seen the Metallica of today they would trash talk them mercilessly
These were definitely pressed by Metallica. If you look at the etch information they have the telltale “made on the metallipress” etching. Each I e has an Easter egg etched into it also, for example kill em all says : vinyl up your ass!
If they can remaster the first 4 albums, there's no reason why they can't fix the brick walled disaster that Rick Rubin left us on Death Magnetic. The new iTunes version is said to be better, but they need to just go all in and finally remaster the physical copy versions as well.
It is my understanding that the only reason they remastered the first four were for the box set reissues they have done recently. I’m also assuming they will remaster the black album upon its release in box set form soon as well. Not sure if they have plans for box sets of Load/Reload because they haven’t released any info on it yet, but if they do, I’m sure those will get remastered as well. Also, remember that it’s a completely different mastering process for digital format and vinyl. Just wanted to be clear and that may be why you are hearing some differences on digital platforms.
How did Metallica / Rick Rubin listen to that loudness war clipped garbage and think it was good? For the millions they probably paid him he sure fucked it up.
The Metallica Walmart exclusives are great quality and sound amazing!!! I do have issues with other Walmart exclusives like Ozzy Diary of a Madman & Dio Holy Diver 2LP remix version. They sound ok but the quality is shit. Also I have the Walmart Kiss Destroyer resurrected which has the same issues. None of them play flat. But all my Walmart Metallica records play flat. Now the second batch isn’t as good. They do seem a bit cheaper. Walmart just distributes these exclusives they are manufactured by the same companies that do the other versions. So I really can’t blame Walmart for the lack of quality for any of these titles.
The least metal thing a band could ever do is make a record only available at Walmart. Weak. If you live near an actual music store, buy it there. If you don't, order it from one and support the little guy.
I agree but sometimes record stores don’t have a specific record I want and then I have to turn to target sadly.... I love walking into the record store and purchasing it’s a experience
i would only buy if they grew brains enough to return jason's bass for finally delivering a proper version of and justice for all,...thankfully and justice for jason exists via youtube
Walmart is the only brick-and-mortar store or I can actually purchase vinyl in my area. Just bought a Walmart exclusive Santana's greatest hits and it sounded great came in on milky white vinyl.
I got my ...and Justice for all at Wal-Mart.... Double LP.... green.. and I'm So Happy with it. AND COOL SIDE NOTE: On the etched dead wax..it says, "...AND VINYL FOR ALL.."
Imagine someone starting to collect vinyl because of the Limited Edition LP's and then going to record stores, people don't see the benefit for the hobby in general
I still have all my vinyl from the 70s/80s. From the mid-80s I was buying at least one piece of vinyl a week, 90% of which I bought from a local independent shop.
I think they increased the limit on the edition :^) I am not really a fan of Metallica but I got Ride the Lightning and Master of Pupets because I remember them from my adolecense especially MOP which I first heard on a walkman in the back seat of mom's rental car driving through Queens, NY. They sound great.
The people who complain about others buying vinyl at Walmart are the same ones who complained about people buying records at Kmart, Sears and Montgomery Ward back in the day.
I don't see anything wrong with the new records I absolutely love them I feel like a teenager buying the first six CDs for the first time the are great to look at and sound just like anything original.....worth it if you collect or are a fan I already own ride the lightning, the black album, and justice, and reload.....not only do I have Walmart exclusives I also have a see thru smoke grey and black war if ages lp to each there own I say....
I work at a Walmart and I work in Electronics and I stock the vinyls and when these came in I was excited I purchased a couple (RTL,MOP & AJFA) when we first put up the vinyls managers would look through them daily sometimes to see what we have. It’s pretty cool
Congratulations to Kevin McKern on winning our MetallicA download giveaway! Thanks to everyone for all the views, likes and comments. Put on a record and we will see you again soon.
Irony: Metallica sues Napster for free downloads. Metallica sells out to Walmart, reissues a few albums with downloads included. Guy on RU-vid gives away downloads for free.
Also a little different to PAY for an album that you could digitize yourself anyway and get a “free” download with it. Lots of bands doing this, tons of vinyl releases with download cards. You are still financially supporting the band, they just reward you by cutting out the hassle of using your usb turntable
I figured that would be the case. I am totally okay with that because I only ever bought "Master Of Puppets" from the Blackened reissues. I have the Warner reissues from around 2008 or so, but those are before the remasters. Stoked.
Kill em All: The Four Horsemen Ride the Lighting: Creeping Death Master of Puppets: Master of Puppets ... And Justice for All: One The Black Album: Nothing else Matters Hardwired to Selfdestruct: Spit out the Bone
Well today was my lucky day! I have called endless Walmarts near me trying to find the earlier albums. Today I walk in and there were 4 (Kill, Ride, Puppets and Justice) just sitting there. I couldn’t believe it. They weren’t there a couple days ago thats for sure. Puppets is going for almost 100 friggin bucks now on EBay.
I have 4 3 I got from the local Walmart 1 I bought online through Walmart what pisses me off is people are re selling these records through eBay for double if not triple the price what Walmart sells for I am missing kill em all and puppets how dumb do you have to be to re sell I hope these people face lawsuits
I need to find these albums! Kill ‘Em All - Four Horsemen Ride The Lightning - Trapped Under Ice Master of Puppets - Battery ...And Justice For All - Eye of the Beholder Black Album - Through The Never (30 years. Jeeze, I bought this freshman year of college) Hardwired... to Self-Destruct - Spit Out The Bone
I was lucky and my birthday was like a week before these came out in stores, so my mom preordered them as a gift. I went in the actual Walmart randomly like 2 days before they were set to release, and they had 19 of the colored vinyl. A lot of black and kill. Couple justice, couple ride, one master. They didn’t have any hardwired tho
1. Kill ‘Em All : Seek & Destroy 2. Ride The Lightning: Fade To Black 3. Master Of Puppets: Welcome Home (Sanitarium) 4. ...And Justice For All!: One 5. The Black Album: The Unforgiven 6. Hardwired... To Self-Destruct: Halo On Fire
The right 6 Albums for this. Man i am jealous. I want these super cool pressings. But here in Germany, no Chance to get it.thats sad but true😉you did a fine Video. Thx a lot. My fave Songs. 1. The Four Horsemen 2. Creeping Death 3. Disposable Heroes 4.And Justice For All 5. The God That Failed 6.Spit Out The Bone
Thanks for tuning in. It sucks you guys can’t get your hands on these, especially considering that they were pressed in your country. Best of luck in the drawing!
I'm starting to notice a pattern. A great deal of the inserts were yellow on black background. 72 seasons is the same, but finally a full record cover.
I am 100000% against buying records from some big box retailer, are you kidding me? Shop through a Discogs retailer or another online record business. I mean if you need to listen to the new fucking Walmart pressings from shitty digital sources of like The Weeknd or Taylor Swift or Metallica on your Crosley Cruiser then hey man more power to you
@infoslinger do you realize how you look when you call someone an idiot and a poser over a round piece of plastic? why are you so angry with me? what have I done to upset you?
I bought the Warner Bros. press copies of the first four albums that were released back in late 2000’s, around when Death Magnetic was about to release and they sound bad-ass! Good find on the colored vinyl l, good sir 🫡 🤘🏻
Part of the reason why I buy vinyl these days is to support local business. Will not buy from big stores even if they have pretty colors. You did a great job with review. It looks like these big stores can't resist closing in on the record business. If it wasn't for this review, I would not have even known that vinyl is being pimped out at the big store.
These big stores also offer reasonable pricing. You can beat your chest all you want about supporting record stores , but most of them have outrageous prices, which, btw , take just as much of an advantage of your attitude and the vinyl craze as 'the big stores.' You think small shops don't like making money? They'd stay small if they started selling a million a year? Sure.
Just picked up Justice. Sounds great. You mentioned the dust sleeve upgrade. That may have been done by Furnace Record Pressing. I worked for them for a short time working on the Justice Box Set and pressed records for a few months. It was commonplace to have records sent to be resleeved. You will also notice Furnace is handling the download codes so makes sense.
@@BillyHurst Question : Does anybody have any information about the Black Album 30th anniversary special edition with the extra live albums and goodies as the rest of the albums before it?
wow a loaded question. ok here we go from kill em all- Whiplash from ride the lightning- for whom the bell tolls from master of puppets- disposable heroes from And justice- harvester of sorrow from metallica- Enter sandman from hard wired to self destruct- spit out the bone those would be my six favorites. great video my friend. hope the record store is going strong brother. and keep on putting out great content. your canadian friend mike m
Kill 'Em All: Jump In The Fire Ride The Lightning: Fade To Black Master Of Puppets: Welcome Home (Sanitarium) And Justice For All: Harvester Of Sorrow Black Album: My Friend Of Misery Hardwired: tie between Atlas, Rise! and Moth Into Flame
I think it would'vd been cool if Metallica's people found and sold these directly to the small record stores. They have the time, they have the resources. Fuck Walmart
I bought a few colored vinyl records from walmart, they sound great, but my Ozzy osbourne Diary of a mad man, was warp. I called my friend who works in the electronic department and told me to bring it over for another copy. The other copy was straight and the sound was great. I wonder if the warp came from the pressing or if the vinyl records were stored in a hot warehouse or truck.
It’s not a new remaster. I’m assuming that will come with the new box set that is hopefully coming later this year. Only the first four albums are the newer remasters.
@@alexanderlee896 Chris Bellman's initials are in the deadwax of the 2014 Blackened pressings as well. What I was saying is this is not any different. We are only speaking of the black album here, just so we are clear.
Just found this vid and it reminded me I wanted Justice on green vinyl. Went out and grabbed it from local walmart and letting my neighbors hear it at about a 1000 watts right now. \m/
Kill'Em All: Whiplash Ride the Lightning: Ride the Lightning Master of Puppets: Master of Puppets ...And Justice For All: One Black Album: Enter Sandman Hardwired To Self Destruct: Hardwired
I agree...to an extent. How much would you expect a person to shell out for a nice condition original?? I’d venture to say that it will be a LOT more than $23, and the fact is that some collectors cannot or will not ever spend that much on any record. Why discourage anyone from experiencing great music, especially when it’s affordable and accessible? Just curious.
@@BillyHurst As a seller myself ( in Australia ), 90% of my stock is quality old stock, My average price per album is $10. though I frequently sell sought-after items for as much as $60 to 70. I find it amazing how much keen teenagers are willing to spend on what I enjoyed when I was their age.
Kill : whiplash Ride: trapped under ice Puppets: the thing that should not be Justice: dyers eve/ frayed ends of sanity Black album: wherever I may roam Hardwired: spit out the bone Long live Metallica 🤘🏼
Why won't the band remix Jason back in so you can hear it? Very selfish of them because it's no secret everyone wants to hear it. If they love their fans they should
Kill’em All- The Four Horsemen Ride the lightings- Creeping Death Master of puppets - master of puppets And justice for All - Blackened Black album- Through the never Hardwired- Atlas ,Arise
mine did, but i would never try to compete with some crap cash in wal mart exclusive. if you can, buy them out...its really not worth it. im fine with the old ones i grew up on. spreading it over 2 lp's is a nice way to jack up the price...its only gonna sound as good as your system. never had a problem before these existed...audiophile releases is for wealthy dudes fooling themselves
Not really. Our Wal Mart keeps tons of all these in stock. Here no one buys them. One day Wal Mart put 30% off stickers on Ride and Kill....yes they were colored. I saw 6 copies of And justice.they are just too expensive at regular price. Seriously? 22.97 for a record?? 👎
@@godwillguideme.3773 I can see the Ebay price gouging already. These are cool but I have all their vinyl on the old box set with the first 8 albums plus a Garage Inc and the Creeping Death Single with the printed vinyl.
So much for "limited" editions. I just bought all if them at my local Walmart. Limited? , limited to what? 10 million?. The limited is when it runs out and then gets repressed with the same limited sticker on the front, its limited to whenever they decide to stop pressing them. I been seeing these for the last few years at Walmart and I finally broke down and got the whole lot. Limited my ass!. I think there should be a law when advertising and selling an item as "limited" there should be a set number of pressings that a company can not exceed to classify as limited. If not then nothing is truly limited at all. It's limited to however many million more they decide to press and for as long as they want to keep pressing them.
@@BillyHurst there isn't anyone worked up, that's just you saying that. My comment is nothing more than pointing out the fact the "limited edition" is nothing more than a sales gimmick when it continues to be repeatedly repressed. Don't sell a car or a record or anything as limited edition if it's really not.
I agree with your sentiment…. I purchased each of these INDIVIDUALLY back in the 80s…. When you had to literally scavenge for them and get them one by one as I would find them periodically at some underground record store on the shady side of town. Back then, collecting these gems was a true obsession of mine in high school. I have colored vinyl (blue, green, red, clear, gold, black, picture discs,… ) of creeping death and Jump in the Fire EPs… Double vinyl albums and picture discs of Kill em All, RTL and MOP… plus demo recordings of stuff from Kill em All and RTL, 12 inch 45s, 7 inch 45s , 4lp picture disc set of an interview with Lars, bootleg concerts (including Cliffs last show) … all purchased back in ‘87-‘90… before they became popular and well known. It’s all packed away in a closet somewhere these days. One day I’ll find an avid collector who would pay good money to take them all. 🤷♂️ But therefore, yes, I agree with you… the stuff purchased at Walmart was practically “mass produced “ compared to the rare ones found back in the 80s that I have.
I picked up Kill 'Em All and Hardwired (just trying to own every album on vinyl, don't really care too much what pressing or color). Still gotta find Load, ReLoad, Garage (EP and Double Album), St. Anger, and Death Magnetic. Did you review the S&M2 boxed set?
There's nothing wrong with the exclusive pressings at any of these stores. I've acquired about 700-1000 records in the last year and bought stacks from these places. The 180 gram vinyl sounds epic. They are all awesome. All played on vintage equipment on a late 70s Pioneer turntable. The only ones starting these rumors are the people marking up vinyl to ludicrous prices in their shops, sitting a several hundred grand in overhead that they need to move. Thats after they open at Noon. Don't misunderstand, I support the record stores when they are cool. When stingy and know-it-all, and give rip off prices on trade-in's, then I don't support so much. Of course they don't want you buying from Walmart, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, FYE, Target, etc. I go for the coolest collectors edition, and whoever sells it. Stranger Things, Season 1, colored vinyl started the exclusives grab for me.
Thanks Melinda. I’m still a collector at heart, but I have to look at it from a business ownership perspective as well. In the end, more vinyl in more places is good for the industry as a whole. I’m. It sure if they will restock it. This has to be the best selling vinyl they have ever had.
It's ok to have a problem with it. You should. The target is on your back as a record store owner. I get the conflict of interest as a fan and business owner but let's be honest. Metallica has always been more concerned about their $$$ than anything else so them partnering with walmart should shock nobody.
Kill em all: motorbreath Ride the lightning: fade to black Master of puppets: damage inc Ajfa: harvester of sorrow Black album: the unforgiven Hardwired: halo on fire
As store owner said, yes it's a bummer he can't sell this stuff. Same time, there are people in this "vinyl community" whom are snobby towards selling in anywhere other than a record store. That said ,I prefer the experience of being in a record shop flipping through racks of L.P's, which is what I grew up calling these discs.
I've had many problems with walmart limited edition vinyl. Bubbles in the vinyl, and super warped. I hope that others have had better experiences than I have had.
I live in a small town and we have 3 Walmart stores. Right now all of these Metallica albums are in stock and plenty of copies. I like Metallica but am not a die-hard fan and most of their stuff I have already on CD so I don't need it again. However, I did grab the green AJFA over the weekend. Love that album, I remembering buying it on cassette back in the day when it was first released. We drove from Tennessee to Michigan to visit family and I played it on my walk-man the whole trip. I also remember bringing it on a church trip and all of us guys listened to it on a weekend retreat, everyone loved it. So i decided to pick it up on green vinyl, actually not a bad price for $28 bucks. if I was a huge fan I definitely would've picked up every single album but I see no reason to own something I already have on CD.
I'm one of those people that lives somewhere that there's no local mom and pop shop, I really really really wish there were but the nearest one for me would be an hour and a half drive each way like 74 miles each direction. So I pretty much have to depend on Walmart for many things because that's all their is, or I order online when I don't get price gouged or shipping doesn't cost a freaking fortune! When you live in rural appalachia where it used to be tiny coal boom towns and most of the population is very poor you take what you can get. There's zero difference in the Walmart vinyl and what comes from mom n pops except you can't find vintage or used vinyl at walmart. THeir records aren't pressed in China by kids in a sweat shop, they're pressed the same places all stores get them Walmart just has the money to broker deals to get X amount in certain colors and therefore call them exclusives.
I don't get it, sorry. I was a huge Metallica fan when I was a kid in 82-83. They lost me after Puppets Haven't really liked much of anything they have done since. Last album was good but Meh.
@@BillyHurst Don't get me wrong. Metallica was the most important thing in the world to me in 82-86. Along with Slayer and DRI. Mad respect to Papa Het too.
Not a fan of colored vinyl really. Does Metallica own a pressing plant? I don’t think so. They do have their own label though and own their music. They were probably pressed at reputable pressing plant though. As for Walmart. I don’t think they take it upon themselves to press records. The record companies or who ever owns the music presses them up for Walmart as a licensed exclusive. Is my best guess.
Yes, MetallicA has their own press in Germany. Walmart is just a major retailer, not producing the vinyl. This is what I was trying to let people know.
@@VinylAthletes years ago they did. Now I believe they just package the stuff. I believe they are pressed in Germany and packaged at Furnace. At least that’s what someone in this thread said and they worked at Furnace.
