The egg test on the Purple mattress is done on the purple material layer. This layer has less surface tension than the foam layers of the other mattresses the commercial shows the egg test being performed on due to the porous design, which allows for even more give. Couple that with the fact that the egg test is conducted using a large sheet of glass which spans the dimensions of the mattress, and what you have is weight displacement. This can be translated as relief at pressure points such shoulders, hips, and ankles. With that purple layer covered the surface tension is automatically increased. And when the egg breaks in this video she is sitting on a book that only spans a small portion of surface of the bed, making it a fixed point of pressure. Given the increased surface tension and the concentration of weight at a fixed point of course the egg is going to break. A more apt comparative test would have been to sit on something that created more weight distribution. But even then I'm sure that having the eggs taped to a falling surface, with the conditions present in the commercial, plays a big factor as well. This is all just what I think.

What this tells you is to put your books on the floor or a table before sleeping in the bed.

The egg test doesn't mean anything. when I bought my purple, I stood on the egg and it didn't break. I was so happy. I bragged about it to my friends. One of my friend has a zinus mattress. he tried the egg test on his mattress, and the egg didn't break. So, I went to my parents house and did the egg test on their spring mattress, and the egg didn't break. But I will say this, purple mattress is the best cooling mattress(except for the spring mattress). For a hot sleeper like me purple is an excellent buy.

It just S actually the textbook that caused the egg to break. The egg test states an egg can cradle an egg while supporting weight, and the textbook causes pressure, which you are (probably) not going to sleep with.

The shell of an egg may be brittle, but the shape of the entire egg is extremely strong. If weight is distributed evenly around the egg, it can hold way more weight than you expect. To demonstrate, try to wrap your hand around an egg and squeeze as hard as you can. If you make sure you are applying even pressure, you have to try really hard for the egg to crack.

The egg test only shows you that the mattress can compress 2" without pushing back a force greater than what the shell of an egg can handle. It doesn't matter how far they drop it from. Newton's 3rd law of motion: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Great video. We did an egg test video where I actually did a back flop onto the bed from our footboard and it didn't break. It did break when sitting on our boys bed, but we didn't get that on video. Very informative, keep up y the great work.

With the textbook it wasn't displacing enough to of the weight across more area When you do an experiment you have to control factors expect the variable there are room many variables

Did they even watch the full ad before doing this? No offense, but they keep asking questions like whether a mattress even needs to be supportive to pass the test (it does, or else the weight above puts too much pressure on the eggs) and what the point is of using glass (to show accurate weight distribution, since most people are closer to the weight/size of the glass than the weight/size of a textbook); a lot of the questions they ask are partially, if not fully, answered in the ad.

So basically it broke because people are curving not flat and straight. The egg broke because in the commercials they are using the purple mattress material without the top on it so the layer of the cover adds more tension so the egg broke because the cover wasn’t as flexible as the bed. That’s a FACT

I watched many reviews and someone did it but placing pressure on an egg and it broke, but by dropping the egg with the pressure hence someone going to lay down on a mattress it actually does pass.

My guess is the egg test isn’t some engineering feat from a rocket scientist. It’s a marketing feat from an ad developer. Purple seems like a temper pedic made with bigger air pockets and thicker plastic.

Your correct when u say eggs are very strong becsue all birds have evolved so that their eggs can handle the weight in the mother or father bird depending on the species sitting on them try holding a egg in your hand and squeeze if it as hard as posing it won't break but if u dig a fingertip into the shell it will I have been raising birds my whole life parrots ,pigeons, chickens, ducks u name it

The test you did was totally different. The book was already putting pressure onto the eggs. In the commercial, the eggs are being held by velcro, so there is no pressure at the beginning. Also, that couch was soft, so it didn't break. But it was also not firm enough to support you. The Purple is a combination. You could have also used a different type of Purple than the commercial. But whether the raw egg test works or not, the Purple Mattress is still comfortable.

1. The test isn't with someone sitting on the egg, it's with uniform pressure - hence the glass. 2. The plastic bag will also change the pressure around the egg. 3. If something is worth doing, it's probably worth doing correctly...and it most definitely is not worth publishing if you're not gonna bother doing it right.

Eggs dont crack due to pressure or weight, they crack due to it hitting something hard or fast. And most people will use the fact that the egg broke on a normal bed in the raw egg test, but since it was brought down by a speeding 80 pound pane of glass, it broke.
