I had the same issues, I found Putting the power save mode after 1-5min; closing the screen when not using it, turning off Bluetooth, WiFi helped tremendously. I went shooting in Miami yesterday, and was able to shoot from 2pm to roughly 7pm one battery hitting 9%. This was doing 4K 4.2.2, 24 and 120 fps and also shooting stills. These settings definitely helped a lot
@@thesonyaps-cuser thanks! Power save was a new option to me coming off the ZV-e10, it may be in the menu but I never noticed it and with the FX30 it’s necessary with the higher consumption parts
Solution - I just tried recording a 4k video while charging with the USB-C power plug charger supplied in the box. I started recording at 25% battery while charging (the yellow light won’t appear but it’s ok) and after a 2 hour recording session when I unplugged the charger, it was still at 25%. Just hit record while charging using the USB-C wire and plug supplied in the box. No need to buy anything else (unless you need portability) Also there was way less heat as the internal battery wasn’t being used at all!
That camera is so powerful and drains a lot of energy. The usage of the battery differs when it is in A7C and it lasts longer. Thank you for sharing the information.
I recently went on a trip and to be honest 3 batteries were more than enough for a day. No issues here however you need to set your camera to Airplane mode to get the most out of the battery. OR may be your batteries are not good.
This is so true ....battery life is not great.. what ive done with mine is ive bought a small but powerfull power bank and a holder that ive hooked on one of the screw holes on the camera with this i can shoot all day with continuous usb-c charging.
My household is Nikon and Canon. I started my vlogging with a Canon not knowing other vloggers were using Canon. It kept me satisfied until I began to dislike the mirror and poor stability in the Canon cameras I have. From there I began using my Droid because it gave me better options. I do however have my eye on the white Canon M50 and M200. Ok sooooo, with a short battery life how many shots does that allot the user? Do you remember how many shots you were able to get? That's if you were shooting pics. I'm a Droid girl for life, have been since Blackberry. I feel Droid has better picture quality than Apple cameras. IJS. Thanks for sharing this with us. Looking forward to more content.
@@TheOfficialTaylorBlu Heyyyyy The FX30 is still a great GREAT camera. For the price you will not find another camera that does what it does at the quality it does it at. Love your channel
@@thesonyaps-cuser (newbie here) So, if I'm going to be recording/streaming for a lengthy period in a fixed tripod-mounted location with access to AC power, I should have no fear of using the Sony-supplied AC power plug and the USB-A to USB-c cable plugged into a battery-equipped FX30 to keep it charged up and running?
If you are shooting a lot of video for events, an external battery is the best option. I use my Z6II to record videos and figured out that it will drain batteries fast when doing 4K. I make it a standard thing to plug in a battery pack to use when recording. If I’m not doing a lot, I just use as is and switch the battery when it gets to 1 bar. Still getting used to my FX30 but I tend to shoot more photos with it. Bought it for video but shooting photos. Hard to let go the photography side.
I agree that having a battery pack is the best way to go with it rigged up. I haven't shot photos yet with it, how is your experience shooting photos with it?
@@thesonyaps-cuser Shooting with it has been pretty good. It’s like shooting with a phone but I need my glasses as the screen is so small. This is when I miss having a viewfinder. I posted a few videos of my experience since picking it up, I keep learning more about it and then test it against the Nikon. I’m actually working on posting another video on things I learned on the photo side.
RIGHT... I saw a review that said they used one battery for a day shoot... No way. Still a great camera. Getting a battery pack for a rig is definitely the way to go
we shot almost every music video and live show in the last five years with the SONY Alpha APSC cameras and now also using the A7IV and also starting with the FX30, since we have a ton of APSC lenses including the SIRUI anamorphic ones, which are really phantastic. If the FX30 was available before the A7IV we would most likely not have needed the A7IV. The only reason we bought the A7IV was the fact, that we indeed could use our anamorphic lenses on this one.
@@aceofspades0996 for what we do in terms of Music Videos and Live Concerts we use the A7IV and the FX30. Although for live shows the FX30 is more reliable due to the overheating issue of the A7IV, which we have to attach additional coolers to. For shooting cinematic footage the FX30 is the better choice for us, because we can use the anamorphic lenses we already have. It depends on the style of the clip though, so in some cases the A7IV can be better.
@@aceofspades0996 i have used 2x a6600 as my a cams for the past 2 years with the a73 as my c cam , now adding a couple of FX30's to replace the a6600s which will now become the c & d cam and solely use the a73 for photography. i love the smaller APSC cameras. im not trying to win film of the year, just use what i need to get the job done
You're absolutely correct, I have those but for people thinking that since it's powered with the Z battery that it will last longer, I was just letting them know not to expect much. Dummy batteries I try to avoid though since there is continuos power through the USB, I wouldn't risk a third party item to mess up he camera.
I have a Sony A74 and when shooting at 4K 24 FPS, 4.2.2, the battery barely lasts an hour. That's why I bought a V-mount battery and now can go several hours on one charge. BTW, I have a Canon R6 for my stills and love it. The R6 is not as good on video as the Sonys. The focus hunts and does not track as well as the Sony. In stills, the Canon is great at tracking.
yeah the first time I used this, it was EATING UP battery even before I was recording! when the one I was using got to 60-70% I just swapped it with a new one and charged the used ones with a portable charge so I always had one fully charge and never had one near 0% (I have 3 batteries)
which is better as a battery I have a sony 6100 and I turn it on and off constantly during the day and it gives me what I want to do, it would be something very similar to the 6100 to the fx30
Bro big caps lol battery lasted me enough for half the football game it doesn’t last long I agree with you. I had to switch back to my Sony alpha 4 camera during the second half
Thanks for the sub. I haven't used the Sigma 18-50mm, they're both great lenses. I like that the Tamron has a greater range and it is a stabalized lens. The Sigma is less expensive last I checked. However, using it with the Tamron 17-10mm 2.8 is amazing.
Thanks for your honesty. I have a ZV-1 which has a small battery and I find that turning it on and off eats up the battery very quickly. I wonder if the FX30 reviewers were keeping their cameras running, which went towards preserving charge? Just a thought 😊 By the way, is it possible to record with the FX30 whilst the battery is charging via USB?
Only one who told about this. I was impressed that i could discharge battery just for a few hours without long shooting, just testing and settings camera after unboxing🥲
Hey, I actually shot this one with my Sony A6600 on PP1 then increased the black a little then added an editing geature called "Film Look" on Premiere Pro
@@thesonyaps-cuser I swear Sony handles skin tones better than I’ve seen anyone via slog. It’s so much cleaner with regards to the green shift. Thanks for the response and I’d love to see what it takes to get slog3 on the fx30 to match pp1
I have that light, I literally charged it up this morning

@@thesonyaps-cuser is just not that powerfull. I keep it for the good colors and the siluettes the one point ligth creates... i got led panels and at a lower price they give more light.
@@thesonyaps-cuser you said the truth about Sony fx30 battery life but you didn't do any demonstration instead you talk too much about it ... Action speaks louder than words my friend 😅
@@reanimatedche Not necessary to show if I'm talking about it and giving examples. I appreciate your recommendation and will do a demonstration also next time my friend
When you use an external battery source with the FX30 such as a Vmount battery or a portable battery pack, do you have to keep the battery in place inside the Sony FX30?
@@thesonyaps-cuser great and i wonder and keep bugging me or i slip someting during my shoot sometime the shutter is lock i wondering why? if i pressing something or what?
1:16 I am sorry, Sony is the iPhone equivalent among the content creators. Everyone has a Sony. Maybe its time to move on to another system just to be hipster? Maybe Olympus? Ricoh? LOL.
LOL I disagree. If Sony's features were not what they were then I'd certainly be using another system. I've used all but Canon because for a number of years Canon was what you were describing Sony to be, the iPhone equivalent. I do hear you on not doing what everyone else is doing, but Sony has great systems that can match any content creator level with a lens ecosystem that is not matched by any others natively and with using third party lenses natively.
For livestreaming, certainly, but for professional shooting the FX30 provides more for the money than any camcorder can at the same price point by far.
@Robert Gasparovic the aps-c lenses are much cheaper. Even with the 16mm 1.4, an FX30 would still be the most versatile option for a livestream/videographer hybrid. I definitely see what your saying if you're just a steamer, but the better hybrid option would be the FX30 for the feature/money
