I´m an investor in other assets and want to know more about whisky. Thank you for the info and the clear explanation of its dangers and pitfalls. What I concluded so far: there´s no free lunch in any market...nothing is as good as it seems and , most important, If it looks safe, that´s because you should dig deeper to understand it better.
@TheWhiskyBaron

you are very welcome Fabio, I hope you found it helpful. I don't want to deter people from whisky as an alternative asset and there are some great companies/opportunities out there. the key thing to understand is how you'll exit the investment - the only aim should be to get the liquid in bottles, so if it's predicated on auctions/other investors buying you out at a higher price, beware.

@@kelvinrugwiji1745 best thing I can suggest is understanding exit strategies offered by companies (look for businesses that actually bottle the liquid), and then understanding pricing structures. whisky should be sold on a price per litre or a price per litre per year - this allows you to understand potential returns much easier

Hey Jake, glad i came across your channel. Ive recently been in contact with a whisky investment company and waiting a return call to talk about possible investment etc. They told me they are a wowgr register company i to have a look into that? Should i just not bother with the return call as seems they are saying exactly what you warned about. Cheers Ricky
@TheWhiskyBaron
@TheWhiskyBaron 9 месяцев назад
it's entirely up to you Ricky - whilst having a WOWGR is the first step to being a legally viable cask 'trading' company, it seems you may be a bit more wary now that you're starting to get to grips with the market. I wouldn't say don't take the call, I'd just advise extreme caution before making any purchase. Happy to discuss any options that are put in front of you. As a bottler I'm always looking for good deals so if you can buy a cask cheaper than I can I'll let you know and maybe you'll work with me down the line when it comes to bottling

Yup, that's it. I am not putting my money into whisky. It's yet just another unclear market with a slow learning curve and too many people claiming to be the fountain of wisdom about it. Nothing personal, you seem like an upstanding bloke, but I didn't think the barrel whisky industry is that dire. Of course I didn't expect it to be totally risk free (as it may initially seem) but I didn't expect it to be this bad either. Maybe I'll look more into it when I have so much money, I don't even care losing 5-10 grand. But as of now, I don't have that kind of play money.

I bought a cask in June 2022. It is guaranteed 10 year storage and seems to be a legit investment company so far. I do worry about a lot of things considering im new to it. I know the angels share will reduce the volume over time but the value will increase every year. It was sold to me as being tax exempt because it is a depleting comodity (at least thats how i remember the wording, forgive me if im wrong) due to the angels share. After 3 years i can look to sell, which i won't, at which point i will assess what kind of gains it has made

And like all investments you really have to do your homework and cross your T and dot your I or you will get burned. As a retired person this is not a wish investment something like this should be considered when younger and recovering from a glitch is possible painful but not a life altering experience.

Wow very interesting & at the same time worrying, transparency wise (not that I am interested in investing in casks, I don't have the money for that, the place for it and neither good storage conditions too-people forget often about that question, btw, and always "think glamour"...if I had the money to buy a cask I'd rather "trust a trustee" company to take care of it (sure I'll visit it or ask for a sample each year to check the cask evolution, but won't rely on my own abilities to manage it, plus there'll be disgorging & bottling issues, and of course taxes).
