Thanks Kyle!! One of my favorite things about being a tour guide was when I would get alumni on my tours and would hear their stories and how much the school has changed from their perspective. I'm glad it hasn't changed to much though :D (besides how much i wish they brought back the Pub )": )

I think it depends on the class! For example, if youre a bio major, you have to take chem and there are multiple classes at different times to fit your schedule, so there shouldnt be any worry to getting those classes. Electives are a little more tricky though; some are more desired than others (i.e. Theater 5, Intro to Acting) and even if you dont get in initially, you can crash the class and theres a good chance if you show up to each class they will see that you're serious about being in the class and give you a spot. Extracurriculars wise, there are club fairs at the beginning of each quarter that you can go to and see the booths that club's set up and ask them questions if you have them! Also checking the rec cen's class listings is a great way to get involved in some cool activities. Also check out the UCSB reddit; a lot of clubs will post to it and promote their events! In my 4 years there, I never had a problem with safety, personally. The campus is well lit and there is an ample amount of security (UCPD, SBPD, IVPD, Campus Police) that seem to always be wandering about. I've walked home from the library countless times ~ 3 AM and been fine. When I say afraid of commitment I meant in romantic relationships! There is a good fraction of UCSB hat is introverted, and there are definitely groups and clubs where you can feel comfortable and also make friends with people who have similar interests to you :)

Florence H The psych program at UCSB is one of our most popular majors and we offer a BUNCH of research opportunities for psych students (undergrads and grads). We even have a research building 100% dedicated to psych that has no windows so research tests that are done inside it can be completely free of any outside factors (since weather can affect people’s moods, emotions, etc.). I always thought that was super cool!

I lived there too, and I didn't really care for it honestly lol. Just being drunk and stupid and being stressed over exams, and anything that happened on DP/Isla Vista felt really shallow, and that's coming from someone who grew up near the Kardashians neighborhood.

@@Briman2052 UCSB was overrated for what you pay, but I used the time for a long needed vacation and to research some things I used to make my better. Sitting in a class with hundreds of students and having my papers graded by teachers assistants was annoying. In community college you have smaller classes, can talk to the professor and have more chances to mess up on a semester system.

@@rwdchannel2901 Nice, yeah, totally agree with all that; after experiencing the quarter system, the semester system seems ridiculously long. Personally I actually liked the school itself and its resources, but I didn't care much for the "lifestyle" (Isla Vista, partying, etc.). But yeah, it's definitely what you make of it. I wasted a lot of time there doing dumb stuff, like drinking too much and what I call "chasing the phantom", which is getting drunk and walking up and down DP with your friend(s) on many weekends looking for... fun? happiness? It got stale pretty quick but I still did it. Lol yeah I was young and dumb but you live you learn.

@@Briman2052 I didn't go to the parties in IV. It was kind of a turn off to me when I saw that many attending weren't UCSB students. When I left Santa Ynez apartments during quarters I would go to lake Cachuma and camp for a week. It was great. I caught lots of bass and went hiking.

@@rwdchannel2901 Yeah, I didn't even know there was a CC there when I first moved in lol. I was wondering how UC students could be so dumb, then found out they were CC students. Yeah it probably would've been a much more chill atmosphere if it were only UC students. Nice, I did nothing like that while I attended :P

Hi! I actually have a friend who is a senior there right now who grew up in Italy and has been attending UCSB for the past 4 years :) I would definitely say apply and write on your personal statement about your time in Italy. We love international students :)

I don't know much about the apartments, as I'm about to start my first year, but what I've heard is that even if you live in a less social area, you can still find a lot going on as long as you don't have the mindset that the fun and social activities will come to you. I think as long as you are willing to put in a little effort to go out to see people around you, you will be fine!

Also, how is the study abroad program? I want to do the Seoul University one or the Barcelona summer...

No business major.

UCSB doesn't have a business program, but they do have an Economics/Finance major that can be supplemented with the TMP certificate program which covers entrepreneurial and business practices + leadership experience! Its only 18 units so is easy to add to your schedule if you're good at time management. You can also talk tot he academic advisers and gear your major courses towards a more business-like path.

Yes there is! You can live in downtown SB, Isla Vista, Goleta, or some of the off-campus university housing! Honestly there's a ton of options for you to select from :) If you have any questions about them then let me know!

Kelsey Remige, I would like to live near or on campus, but I’m not sure what is the best option. I’m a very open, social and philosophical person but due to visual impairment, I would like to live in walking distance. I study psychology in Europe but will attend Santa Barbara this fall on exchange, so that’s why I am a little unsure about where to live. I enjoy music and skateboarding but perhaps it’s mainly surfing? A 420/alc and petfriendly person as well, but I’m not sure if that is not possible on campus and therefore the other options you are mentioning might be better areas. Hope to hear from you 🤗

I know a lot of people who went to UCD due to their zoology/vet programs and love it! I also know a lot of people who went to UCSB for their undergrad and were in the zoology or marine biology program and loved it as well, then transferred for their grad to places that had Vet program. If you're a hard worker and focus on research throughout your undergrad at UCSB, you shouldn't have a problem when matching up against the UCD undergrads. One of the biggest "fables" I've heard since working around admissions is that the university prioritizes their undergrads, which isn't true! Each individual applicant is based off of their grades, research, app, etc. and not what school they went to, so don't stress :")

Definitely not! Not everyone parties and there is definitely a scene for more introverted students or people who don't usually party :)

sea-ham abdi Diversity wise, UCSB is actually the most diverse UC campus (statistically) even though I would say the majority of the students there are either Asian or white. Even with that being said, when I would visit other UC campuses, I would definitely noticed that they are less diverse than UCSB. We also have a very large multi cultural program at UCSB where there is countless clubs that go along with many different cultures and religions that are very prominent on campus and tend to hold a lot of events that are really fun and all inclusive!! I would say that IV is about the same because it is mainly the students from UCSB with only a small fraction either being outside families or people from SBCC. Santa Barbara, in my opinion, is not really a “college town” in the traditional sense. It definitely has a lot of influences from UCSB, but it’s it’s own city that adds another perspective to the surrounding area and it kind of gives you a more grown-up feel. Even with that being said, it has a lot of fun nightlife areas and also has some nicer bars that are fun on the weekends to hang out with friends at. The nightlife it’s self is more of club-ish bars, but there are huge hits especially on Thursdays for college night. Besides going out and drinking, there are many things to do around including outdoors activities like hiking and the beach, as well as A zoo and some other fun things to do. Honestly there’s so many things that you can do in Santa Barbara that even after being there for four years, I still felt like I didn’t do everything I could’ve. Hope this helps!

UCSB loves foreign exchange students! It's difficult to get in no matter if you're international or not, but if you have good grades and good extracurriculars, you should be chillin :)

My favorites were Anacapa and San Nicholas, but that's my personal bias :) San Nic was next to the UCen, & dining commons so it was super convenient but Anacapa had the best view and was closest to the science buildings for me (Since I was a STEM major!)

Yes you can :) It will be hard to get in to the frat parties unless you have friends at UCSB in those frats, but you can definitely still go to parties :)

I think it's definitely harder to get into than when i was admitted, but definitely not impossible (obviously). I would say, just try your best in your classes and make sure to diversify your activities outside of the classroom. IMO, UCSB would rather have students who can bring something different to the community and add to its experience than to have someone with straight A's and no extracurriculars. But hey, that's just my opinion. :D

Easier to get admitted than at UCLA or Berkeley for nearly the same quality of education. More likely to get more financial aid too I think.

Phuong Vy Tran Comm is definitely one of our easier majors to complete and most students complete it in about 3 years and usually pick up a double major and complete them both in a total of 4 years

UCSB for sure!! I live in the Berkeley area and honestly it seems depressing af there. My friend transferred from Berkely to UCLA because she hated it so much. It’s just so competitive and noooooooo fun

what's your major/ interests? intended career? if you're more arts driven i'd definitely pick LA over SB as their art program is miles ahead of ours (speaking as a current art major btw). of course, since both are broadly defined as "research universities" there's a high chance that you're going to have to encounter a lot of theory based classes rather than hands on practice, but busy work is unavoidable in nearly every major unless you have upper division standing/ prior instructor approval. as for the surrounding culture, honestly, i feel like SB is a bit insular, and gets kind of old after the first month, but i'd be lying if i said i wasn't biased because i'm currently trying to transfer to UCLA. this is just my personal experience.

however, UCSB has some really strong STEM programs so if you're more interested in studying that, i would recommend you visit some of their departments

silvari I am trying to be a zoologist. I want to major in zoology for UCSB. However UCLA doesn’t have zoology but does have an ecology and evolution major that I think can be used to be a zoologist. I am kind of scared of the rigor of UCLA but at the same time maybe every uc is equally rigorous. Also I’ve read that living in isla vista for UCSB is cheapish. I am considering this because I’m trying to minimize my costs whenever I do move out of dorms Where as I know housing for places around UCLA are expensive I think. I’m encouraged by most of my peers to go to UCLA Just because it’s one of the top schools and its reputation.

​@@mariamolina2544 zoology is a bit of an obscure major, but that doesn't mean you can't fit that into whatever career path you intend on going into! for instance, i really want to work as a commercial artist as a concept artist, but they don't offer that here, so in a way, i'm taking courses that allow me to fulfill that goal in mind because of how open-ended it is (as opposed to stem majors where a lot of classes are required for you to take in order to graduate). i'd definitely advise you to discuss this with members of the biology department/ related majors you think would be useful at both ucsb/ucla to get a better idea of the programs.
