Lol I lived in CA when I was little and every time I tell people that I lived there they ask me if they were rude lol Really though, it depends on the crowd. Most people were pretty genuine and nice (I was like 8 though lol)
Can you do a video about how to get into UCSB like grades and stuff? Also if there's any information if there's an architect major or something close? Love your videos
i am still deciding if i’m gonna commit or not ... not because i don’t wanna go or wanna go to another school but i’m literally terrified of the whole experience
Just committed and planning on rushing! I'm from Chicago so it's good to hear a lot of people say that it's easy to make friends and that everyone is welcoming :)
i just finished my first year at uc merced and honestly i'm thinking of transferring to santa barbara! merced is wonderful, it just lacks more majors and minors since its so young :/
This video came out at literally the perfect time, I'm deciding between UCSB and CSULB. Already ruled out UCSD and am leaning towards UCSB, my only concern is being able to adapt to the environment, but that goes for any college.
Not to mention UCSB gave me the absolute most aid, after current scholarships my gap is going to be ~4k while it would be ~7k for CSULB... kind of clear who wants me more :/
i really want to dorm on campus and get the full experience i’m leaning towards the santa rosa or santa cruz dorms, what do you think ? btw ily and you’re videos sm
Yes!! Global studies! Amazing department... extremely helpful for whatever you need... (they literally helped me pick classes and make a schedule for the next 4 years haha)
thanks for making this video!! it’s really helpful :) would you say the school is really diverse? i’ve heard diff opinions so i’m curious what u think. also, do ppl often get bored at ucsb? i’ve heard that IV is pretty small n that ppl get tired of the food on campus. also, do u think greek life is pretty emphasized at the school to the point where it can get a lil excluding toward non-greek life ppl? sorry for so many questions i’m just trying to decide between ucsb n sdsu lol
hey! the school is pretty diverse. obviously depends where you’re coming from but for me, coming from a suburb around philly, it’s def more diverse. no one gets bored at ucsb!! there’s so much to do and isla vista never sleeps! i do get tired of the food on campus but i just treat myself to food in iv or downtown. also greek life is def very chill and not big at ucsb. only 13% of students are in it so you won’t feel excluded if you decide not to join
I’m deciding between UCSD and UCSB and I’m soooo conflicted! I’m from San Diego so I’d be able to visit my dog whenever I want lol but UCSB would really bring me out of my shell and seems like a really fun place to be.....ah if only I could visit
yay!!! and i met my roommates through our class facebook group! we talked through insta dm and text and eventually facetime after that & officially decided to be roommates in may
I’m in 8th grade going into high school and there is this other RU-vid who I love when went to UCSB but she graduated like 2 yrs ago and UCSB seemed rly cool so I might apply for when it is time for me to even apply for college because well I still have 5 yrs still I graduate high school and I live in Iowa and if I do go there it’ll also be a huge step bc Iowa is so far from California 😂😂
i’m about to be a junior in hs and i rlly wanna go to ucsb and ur doing the major i want too !! can u talk more about tuition and sororities? do u pay out of state fees and how did u have friends b4 ur move in vlog?
thank you for making this video! i’m a freshman at my local community college right now on the east coast and santa barbara is at the top for me, my question is do you know what the living situation usually is for juniors? my biggest fear is going and having to find my own roommate and having no friends because i didn’t go there until junior year, but the fact that you said they’re a lot nicer there than on the east coast was encouraging!
most people find their roommate through social media! it’s normal for ppl to post in the facebook group class of ____ and say you’re looking for a roommate! from there, you usually dm people on instagram and get to know them. most juniors live in isla vista or in manzanita village!
Mila Cole girl same , but I’m going too community first to get my basic classes done then transferring too a university . Don’t rush your self, take steps you think you can take beautiful 💕
Thank you for this video! I was accepted for environmental studies major, do you know anyone who's in it/what have you heard about it? Also, is it really expensive to be in a sorority? I'm trying to decide where to go and it's between UCSB and one other school!
yes! i know a couple people doing ES. I’ve heard it’s really interesting but there are a lot of prereqs. not gonna lie, sororities are pretty expensive, the average per quarter is around $1,000 more or less. there are scholarships you can apply for tho! i hope you end up choosing ucsb :)
hey!! what’re your thoughts on the media and film studies major? i’m very interested on how ucsb portrays the major & if i should continue looking into it or not!
i love it!! it’s so interesting and everyone in the major is so cool. the classes i’ve taken so far have been so interesting and probs my fav classes ive taken. you get to watch so many good movies and tv shows, definitely recommend checking it out
thanks for making this video!! what’s the lgbtq scene like at ucsb? I’m really considering going but I’m not able to visit and I don’t know really know what it’s like there
im gonna be a psychology major but i’ve heard UCSB isn’t really a good option precisely because it’s a good school for that major (you know with difficulty getting into classes and stuff) so i need advice ! thank you!
if you’re worried about getting classes as a psych major, all psych classes have priority to that major. so don’t worry about getting into your major classes. also it just depends on the units you come in with! if you have taken aps/college courses you may have an earlier pass time. you can also apply for the honors college in june of your freshman year if you won’t be in it this coming year. being in the honors college gives you an early pass time as well! you can look up the requirements online!
im considering applying to ucsb, but im also from out of state. If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying for out of state tuition? do they offer merit scholarships for out of state students?
if ur living on campus w a meal plan, out of state tuition is around 65K. and yes! they do have scholarships -- you can check out ucsb's office of financial aid and scholarships website to find out more
trust me i totally get it i'm from philly so ucsb is sooo far! but moving to california was literally the best decision of my life. i do get homesick sometimes and out of state tuition does suck :( but i'm so much more happy and have learned so so much from going to ucsb
you meet a lot of ppl through random things like roommates, dining halls, parties, classes, clubs, sports, sports games, and more! i would just be open to meeting new people and you’ll end up making friends!
UCSB has been my dream school for so long and I intended to pursue a sociology major but as a senior I now want to go into business and learn about finance etc. Would you recommend going to UCSB even though they don’t have my desired major which is business? I applied as Econ and got in but they say that’s a very cutthroat major so I’m intimidated. Also is there a lot of surrounding business where students can intern ?
i would’ve recommended econ so thats good ur already in that major! i know a few people that are in econ and i’ve heard it is hard but if u work really hard and stick with it you can do it! & as for internships there is plenty of opportunity. at ucsb we have this program called handshake and it connects you with jobs and internships
I got accepted to UCSB but I’m still debating between UCSB and CSUN. I applied as a sociology major but UCSB looks very intimidating + idk how I feel about communal bathrooms😣
don’t be intimidated!! every college is intimidating but i think ucsb does a great job of making people feel welcomed. we also have so many resources and services so if u ever feel overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to ask for help! & in my opinion communal bathrooms weren’t bad at all!! honestly makes for some good storytimes lol
i’m in the process of debating from ucsb/chapman!! i’m gonna be majoring in communication at ucsb and i wanted to ask you how ucsb’s communication major is :) your videos help me so much in deciding which school to go since i can’t visit smh 🤦♀️ thank you so much!!!!!
hey!! our communication department is amazing i love the major so much. all the professors and advisors are super helpful and the people in the major are so nice too. you only need three prerequisites for the major + they are really interesting so it’s not bad at all. our program is social sciences based so its a lot about communication research too!
@@emmasusas omg!! thank you so much for the reply! I don't have anyone around me who goes to UCSB so it was so hard for me to know the real stuff😓 I am so excited to attend UCSB and hopefully meet you cuz you seem SO NICE :) have a great day!!
I got in and plan on committing soon as a pre-psychological and brain sciences! My biggest concern tho is that i won’t find like “real” friends, especially since I feel like i won’t be the partying type 😕do the ppl there kinda influence you to party and stuff, or are there a lot of ppl who aren’t into that too?
yay!! excited for you! and no not at all there’s no pressure to party all the time! there are plenty of people who don’t like to go out. there are soo many people at ucsb, i’m sure you will find your people!
Ava Adlao Hey! so I didn’t get the best scores, I got a 28 on ACT and 1170(?) on the SAT, but I was super involved at school and had over 200 hours of community service. I played a sport for 4 years, volunteered at my church for 5 years and did other community service related to what I wanna be when I grow up. I’m also in ASB and have worked 3 jobs since junior year, and I think my PIQ’s were pretty good. Key thing to take away is to be involved at school and show ur passion through your activities! hope that helped ☺️
I care a lot about prestige ngl. I’m waitlisted from my #1: UCLA🤧 and watching this makes me😬 cause the kinda people that get into UCSB don’t really care that much about school. They didn’t try THAT hard in hs and care more about the social aspect of college lmao💀This is not the school for me but I have no other options except UCSD🤧 and UCSD is a dead school so no thanks to that too😀👍🏽 I’m fucked.
I DIDNT MEAN TO BAG ON YOU LOL💀 UCSB is definitely a good school for academics but I’ve just come to hold UCLA on a pedestal so any rigor less than UCLA... I tend to look down on. It’s dumb lol. But what are the kinda people there like? Is school more important that social life- generally speaking.
it was definitely tough i missed them so much! but we still kept in touch through facetime and snapchat and all that so it wasn’t bad. also college really keeps u busy so i didnt have much time to think about being homesick
literally sorority recruitment!! & through my roommates and mutual friends! sometimes through classes but im so awk so like lol cannot go up to someone in class and say hi
I am from Portugal and I would love to go to ucsb but I don't really know who can I make the sat test, because that's not a thing in Portugal can you actually help me pleaseeee hahaha
hi! i don’t know much about this and wish i could help you more but i looked it up and if you go onto collegeboard.org, you can find info on international sat tests! you can also take the act test too!
it depends! housing tries to get everyone their top pick but sometimes you’ll end up with your second or third choice. i ended up with my third choice but ended up loving santa rosa!
@@emmasusas thank you so much I was just worried about taking 15 units and that being to much for me but glad you think it'd manageable :) Guess it's time to commit to UCSB 🥳
@@manshama2599 sadly I did not. But I think it’s a blessing in disguise. I would have blindly gone there (mainly for parties lol) without having done full research on the requirements for my major. Turns out they don’t offer the exact major I wanted and the version they did offer required heavy math, physics, and other sciences which is not in my strongest pursuits. Luckily I’m planning on attending my second choice that offers everything I’ve ever wanted & more every time I do more research about it I find out it is exactly the type of university I need/want.
