Yes bro. Less is more when it comes to fut. Even trading, tho I never really got into it, was fun. I did it here and there. But I remember Marquee matchups used to be a top tier SBC were silvers & bronze would sell for 10k. So you check your club if you have those expensive silver players and list them up. It’s little things like this that made 17 so fun & engaging. I just miss the grind for the team. Golds were still usable till tots. Now, after 1-3 weeks, all the golds apart from like 5 are above 100k. You can’t get excited when you pack a good player because they’re worthless on the market. Packing good meta players don’t even hit the same as well because everyone have them. I packed Cruyff, red Haaland, and I didn’t even flinch. Takes away from the fun.
@@mjordan1117 Cards don't matter anymore, gameplay is shit, there is just nothing good about the game. They brought EVOs but they week there new and better cards, which make your evo card unusable. i can only play 3 games a day if i go beyond that its starts to get depressing
Y’all are crazy, the only thing FIFA should bring back is relegation for rivals but the gameplay from back then is slow, lacks options to be creative, etc. The real issue is the player base are rats and spam whatever they can to win….watching skillz gameplay from 17 is like watching baseball or basketball from the 80’s and trying to compare it to the modern day
@@barstar888 I agree with the relegation, as for the speed of gameplay I agree somewhat. It allowed you to play faster because player movement actually existed, and if you wanted to play a slower tempo, the player movement would allow you to do that as well. For example, DMs in 17 with no instructions, behave more like a deep lying playmaker than DMs in 24 with the DLP instructions. People rely on being rats because the game defaults to drop back, leading trivelas, finesse shots, and early through balls to be the only way to score consistently. Either do that or just run down the wing and force a cutback to ignore the drop back all together. Honestly, just fixing player movement and drop back alone will make the gameplay better. I don’t even think AI defending is as horrible as they make it out to be, it’s only really amplified because of drop back and the lack of player movement. Having to rely on player locking for any attacking movement at all just shows laziness and ignorance on EA’s part imo.
I’ve been saying this for 5-6 years now, but FIFA was in its prime from FIFA 12-FIFA 17. Sometimes, less is more and that applies to all the special cards nowadays that apart from cosmetics, play pretty similar to their base card. And I’d even argue that the Fifas that are even better were the ones where Silver and even some bronze players were viable.

You're absolute right about the PSP too, I remember EVERYONE had FIFA 08 on PSP. But I what I meant was, like, FIFA 2003 is better than any FIFA post FIFA 15 in my opinion. I wasn't comparing them to PES or any other games, only themselves.
FIFA 17 had that perfect blend of where you could still use low rated players throughout the game cycle but also had lots of new fun promos that kept the game fun all year round. I remember I bought mustafi and kept him in my team literally until the end somehow.
FIFA 13 UT was peak and I feel like 2017 was when the perfect mix of gameplay and skill was met. Back then you saw a rare player and you knew the guy coming up needed to be respected. Nowadays week 1 you see RARE AND LEGENDARY players
Yup, I felt like the previous Fifa games felt like football where you can play proper tiki taka passing. The current game feels like an ice hockey + frisbee game. 😅
IMO FIFA has been on a downward trajectory since FIFA 13. As soon as they realised just how much money they can make from Ultimate Team, our game was finished. Even Ultimate Team has destroyed itself. FIFA 10 > FIFA 11 > FIFA 12 > FIFA 13 > FIFA 14 < FIFA 15 > FIFA 16 > FIFA 17 > FIFA 18 > FIFA 19 > FIFA 20 > Full blown AIDS > FIFA 21 > my entire bloodline dying slowly and painfully by being burned at the stake > FIFA 22 > world hunger > FIFA 23 > Nuclear apocalypse > FC 24 > hell

I can press the pass button and go to toilet and return and the ball wouldn't have moved over to the intending receiver of the pass 😂😂 The input lag in current gen Fifa on the ps5 is a complete abomination and makes the game a no go area.
Never a big ultimate team player but I really miss the cup knockouts. The feeling of pressure when you get to the semifinals or even the final is unmatched!

dont agree almost no one talked bad when Fifa 15-18 was out, was the time pes totally died because Fifa was so much better, sure some people complained but they still liked it, now many people just stopped playing, now its almost only kids which play the game, with the credit cards of there parents, and help of giant ai defending handicap ans scripted games always
fifa has gone down hill because they dont do anything exciting , draft rewards are terrible and everyone has 10 icons within the first four months , so people have nothing to grind for and they need more xp objectives updating constantly so people can get to top level of season rewards , cause not everyone plays online or champions etc
Yeah they’re so consistency with the out come of situations, not getting block animations in the same situation. Some players pull out some crazy dribble animation when people are close to me. Like how you gonna do that only when a defender is getting close but never any other time. The LB doesn’t work as good as it used too.
You said in those games if you reach in an area you can score and theres nothing i can do about it... If you do a stepover into far post, there's nothing you can do... Mechanics have always been there

FIFA 14 was my favourite ever, so much variety in teams, an enjoyable grind, and the world cup mode in the summer made it feel like a completely new game. Fun times man
Skillz, I remember back in tbe day watching you when KSI was a baby on RU-vid, and I believe you was doing career mode stuff with Benfica. I also remember you being 1 of the first people to do the whole GTA thing, and connecting it together with FIFA, to give your career modes back stories. Fun times. But my main reason for commenting, is kinda just how much FIFA has dropped from their games, and it isn't even just FUT stuff either. FIFA 07 on PS2, had sponaorship deals, emails in game about fans being sad their favourite don't play, and it would affect their level support against you, which also could mess up your job security etc etc. Nowadays we don't really have any details like that added to the game, it's all just generic stats, no weekly/monthly finances to maintain like Football Manager, all the clubs just miraculously run off transfer funds. There's no details or love in their game anymore, only the fact they want the game more accessible for everyone to play their Ultimate Team game mode, so they maximise their money coming in. All games nowadays are doing the same thing. Microtransactions galore for pixels on a screen. Sometimes it's fun to spend a 5er on the game one time to give you a small little boost, or maybe even a 10er, but what's even the point when the game won't change in any meaningful way? I'm career mode all the way, and I wish FIFA would use some of their FIFA Manager formula's they had, because that was quite a sick PC game alternative to FM, proper detailed. I mean maybe the game doesn't need to go that far in terms of detail for career mode, but they've had past games have proper cool, unique and interesting features already, yet they leave it all in the past, blend some of the new stuff with the old. What even happened to things like PS2 FiFA Street too? Even the more modern one wasn't too bad either, it's just sad, no more passion, or they're just lazily releasing a game with new animations nowadays, just to get their money from FUT, since their player base can't go without FIFA. Sad and disappointing.
Not trying to hate on you or anyone. But most of the Ultimate Team RU-vid that got an issue with FC 24 is most because of the content and gameplay issues seem to be secondary or even below that. Not the issue with goalkeepers not coming for crosses despite putting goalkeeper instructions on come for crosses. My goalkeeper literally watch the ball fly by him multiple times for my opponent players to head it in. Scoring from corners because the goalkeeper won’t come for corners and players won’t jump to win defensive headers. So 9/10 times if header is on target it’s a goal. The way the ball always bounce back to the opponent attacking players no matter how many times you win it. The ball literally goes back to them all the time. The passing been an issue for many years now and it doesn’t seem like they care to fix it. The foul issue, I get foul a many times a game by the refs never gives it, but as soon as I touch my opponent players it’s a foul or penalty. So many gameplay issues but you lot seem to mostly care about what content and cards come to the game.
Defending was much more skillfull back in the day. I was always good at defending and could limit opponents to 0-2 goals,, only truly good opponents scored more, now I always have matches were both teams score 5 goals minimum. This says enough. The only true thing that is better now regarding FUT is Evolutions. I can finally make mediocre players that I love good and competitive, it takes time but it is rewarding.
I love you skillz but I think you are dead wrong on this. Yes the older games simpler, but I do not think that equates to a better game. I have been playing since 2010. While I am not a rank 1 gamer like yourself, I think this is where you and a lot of other content creators get it wrong. As a 4 year follower and sub on twitch (still sub over there btw) I think I can speak for the masses and say we do not care where you finish. We do not care if you miss rank 1, we do not care about how big your team is, WE care about you and the booyah nation. While I understand you personally want to get the 20-0 and put 50k fifa points on to try and get us gameplay with the new card, we simply do not care. What we care about is spending time with you and the energy and happiness you bring to our life through a game and sport that we all love. I respect your decision to stop playing this game but I feel if you took a more relaxed approach to the game you would not feel so stressed and you would be able to enjoy the game. I would love to see you run through champs with past and present Benfica squad and all these other crazy squads that we are able to put together now. But not with the intention of getting rank 1with these teams. Simply to play the game and just enjoy each other. Get back into the 41212 narrow and play your game the way you want to play. Not the 4321 for 2+ years because it is the most meta. We do not care about meta if we cared about meta we would watch a pro. I know this is long winded but I hope you actually take the time to read this out because I know I can not be the only one that feels this way. from what I remember, some things that were said in this video like 'in this fifa you have to play with this players to win', but back then in fifa 17 was the same and people complainted about the same, in fifa 17 there were only 20 usable players in UT and you played with and against those players all year and I feel that, yeah it's easier this year to get the better players but at least I'm not playing against the same players every game, no hate intended, that's just how I feel.
i haven't played fifa since fifa15 i'm one of the people that value simple controls and back then the game was simple and fun for casual players then a couple of years later and now i see advanced penalty shoot outs so many icons on the screen then menu complexity then the way you control the players. everything about fifa feels overwhelming for new players
The first fifa i bought was FIFA 17 with the ps4 and the gameplay was really enjoyable i still have the game disc and go back to FIFA 17 sometimes and its so fun to play fifa 17 than 24 because i like normal pass and move gameplay and in FC 24 its filled with skillers who pass through defence lines with no effort and they have no passing skill and football knowledge

Im a garbage 9 to 11ish wins a weekend league player. Fifa 15 and 17 were by far my favorites, took a break after 18 and played 23/24. 24 is so hilariously bad i actually quit. Ik its supposed to make it easier for ppl like me to want to play, it is not. Please let my see my 200-700 record and give me fluid gameplay. I even play on pc and it sucks. Theres nothing u can do without grinding store/menu content. At least in older fifas i could luck out a placement and eat, fc24 was the crappiest grind ive ever experienced. Rather new game plus eldenring again than play this horse shit. But w content skillz u give me hppet
Seasons in ultimate team back in the day was so much better than crappy div rivals. Skill gap has been nerfed, promos have saturated the game to within an inch of its life and mugs still buy points. 40 games Friday morning to monday morning was crazy tho 😂
the way the majority of the playerbase plays in fut this year is so exhausting to look at. they don't even want to be creative or good. just wanna do whatever dumb stuff it takes to get the win. the worst part is, every year the game is getting objectively worse than the previous year. when 22 dropped i thought it was the worst, when 23 dropped i missed 22, when 24 dropped i missed 23.

Man fifa 12, 13 and 14 were goat. Stopped pkayed fifa/fc after 20 i just did not like were the gameplay went and stopped. My play style could no longer be played. I was always played tiki taka and that was no longer possible.
It so happens that the perception that "times were better when things were simpler" is valid for any game and, perhaps, any aspect of life. With the advancement of technology and its accessibility, which is not a bad thing, I must emphasize, people tend to think that systems need to be more complex and profound when, in fact, the magic lies in simplicity, especially when we talk about video games, which were born to be a relief from daily worries. As I said, this applies to various other games and many other aspects of life. How fun it was to buy games in person, meet people similar to us, and have... that human contact. Anyway, I don't want to stray too far from the topic, but it's food for thought
Ultimate team really killed EA’s sports games I like the concept of the game, but the second you could buy packs with money it just turned these games into gigantic cash grabs

I started playing fifa when Fifa 98 came out on nintendo 64. There was no FUT or any of that stuff. I honestly think over the years of releasing Fifa after they discovered the whole micro transactions portion that it’s been downhill. I never play FUT. doesnt interest me. I play seasons online and career mode. Either i wanna grind the career mode or i wanna go online and play someone 1v1 with just regular teams, not made up ones. I know I’ll probably get a lot of flack for this but FUT has ruined fluidity of the game. Used be excited for fifa games to come out and see what new things they got. Now every year it’s all about FUT and how they can make the game equal for everyone, no matter their skill level. Just like he mentioned, back in the day if you were that dude on the game, you can win 50+ games in a row no problem. Now??? You win 5-6 in a row and the game has a script inside of it where they make your team slow and sluggish and practically just give the win to your opponent so that “its fair”. That part is absolute trash. And its almost like its gotten worde every year with that part of it.
Agree w most of his points except for the top 100. I think the top 100 is better off removed and having weekend league even more sweaty is to me terrible. For a lot of us who are older OG’s that played we don’t have the time to play endless fifa and we just want a relaxing time on the game when we get a chance to get on. The biggest issue for me is the grind is ridiculous now and too much time spent on menus. Getting informs and chem limiting teams was more fun or rage selling and building a new team is better than just doing an sbc and running with any players because you have no desire to make new teams

I see this in so many games with characters in video games. When a company makes to many characters or designs for something. They become wack after because it's harder to come up with new ideas. If Fifa keeps making 30 design cards every year they will run out of ideas eventually and start making wack art cards with like Bellingham and butterflies around him or something dumb like that. I hate the game right now.
Removal of that screen that shows people's squads stopped people from doing the connection glitch to quit when they see your team. It's one of the good things that they did
3:30 There is a bit of revisionist history going on for monthly rewards at the moment. Skillz is not the first to have nostalgia for them. Monthly rewards were not good for multiple reasons. Firstly. The fact you HAD to play EVERY game in a 40 game weekend league was not good. It was neither fun nor healthy. Secondly. If you missed or needed to miss one weekend league then everything you've done to that point is for nothing. Thirdly. The rewards themselves, were they really that good? Perhaps for someone like Skillz getting top 100. The Icon is nice. However all the red picks beyond that were always massively behind the power curve by the time you get the rewards at the end of the month. We see it today with TOTW cards, they are already or fall behind the power curve for cards. Other than this I think Skillz makes some really fantastic points about how FIFA 17 compares to today. Great job Skillz.
I miss that old fifa where I played through the 40 league games in one sitting with a friend. It was fun and rewarding, I was gold 3, gold 2 sometimes on a good weekend gold 1 but it was rewarding nonetheless. Nowadays it's no fun to play weekend league.
pretty spot on... however you are massively wrong about skilling being easier today. Ive been what you would say a skill good since fifa 15 and i promise you its harder now to be a skill god than ever before. Because of how strong defending is, most skills are irrelevant right now because CBs will tackle you out of the animation regardless of their positioning where even as recent as fifa 23 the skill would have still worked in certain situations. If you see somebody on FC 24 cooking hard with skill moves, they would be 10x as deadly on fifa 17. factos
The same thing happened to FIFA that happened to Call of Duty... Skill gap removal. Now we all have different definitions for this 'skill gap removal', on COD it is called 'SBMM', (Skill Based Matchmaking) but FIFA essentially did the same thing.
I agree to 1000% with everything you said, Fifa 17 was also my favourite game by far, if this game would be back I would play it all day long, one of the biggest things Fifa 17 had was the ai of our attackers made so nice runs all the time playing was just so fun, and If I lost games I never was pissed because when I lost I lost against someone which was just better then me, I stopped Fifa in fifa19 which was the first game were everything changed and there it was exactly like it is now in fc24, you loose to people which are so much worst then you just because the game wants it like this, just so they dont stop buying packs, that's what makes you so angry if you play against someone which dont play s** but the game just screws you over then you loose and you want to smash the controller totally unhealthy
I'm on with you on the gameplay, it was better and more enjoyable before. But as someone who was never close to rank 1 or someone you'd call a casual i am all for making the game simpler. I played fifa from 12 to 17 everyday. After the WL was introduced i gave up. I had to study and got a part time job on a weekend, i had no way to stay competitive by playing an hour or two every two days. You still have options to be competitive, get the elite division, play in qualifiers for big tournaments but casuals like me can still enjoy the game. What i hate is making a game that gives you fomo bc you did not play one WC so you are already 50k and a few special cards behind bc you had a weekend trip or a plan. Gameplay yes, it's shit. Making the game accessible a big W.
I still play FIFA 13, FIFA World Cup 14, and FIFA 15. I am just missing FIFA 17 in my collection and I heard a lot of good things about that game. Everyone saying that it was the last great FIFA so it must be true.
Not enough talked about but I really loved Hunter story mode in 17,18. It added a similar style to what cod is. Complete the story and complete some missions to get certain rewards
Back then a controller would last me AT LEAST 1 year, maybe even 2, until it started bugging or stick drifting. Now I'm up to 2-3 controllers per year and other broken things aside from ps related stuff. That says a lot.
@lordspalse0062 exactly what I thought as well. I am an expert in controllers now, seeing how many I've opened and replaced some parts from other broken ones. And some of them are not even original, even though they are from sony, just have cheaper parts or components that are more fragile.. and I'm not refering when you smack it against the wall, just their lifespan is shorter than it used to be

How on earth am I expected to sustain a monthly purchase of a dualsense controller despite handling it like a new born baby. Sony are pathetic bastards. Sony's planned obsolescence on this sorry excuse of a controller is almost akin to a controller edition of ps plus subscription. They might as well do a solid controller and make us swear an oath to pay a monthly sum for it as subscription.
