I have to say... Jeremy Wade caught one of these way back and way bigger but unfortunately his got beat up on the rocks and didn't survive. Was very interesting to watch somebody trying again and now I appreciate really how hard of a task that is. Good work 👍

I used to live on the Zambezi river back in the late 70s, one day we were out fishing below the Vic Falls and hooked into a Tiger of about 5Kg, my mate handled the fish as I pulled it out of the water but as he took the hook out it started flapping like crazy and managed to shoot out of his hands and over his shoulder, as it slid down his back it's tooth/teeth got into his flesh and opened him up like a tripe tomato ,we had to cut the trip short and get back to civilization sharpish to get him stitched up.

You didn't have good luck because you never had the intention of giving the village chief the first fish you caught, don't make promises and not keep them!

Yeah.. The original "River Monsters" Jeremy Wade has claimed it was probably one of the toughest fish he's ever tried to catch as well. He did catch a huge one about twice this size and was truly scary to behold.

I need more of this caveman. A full 30 part series of him after increasingly strange animals.

Fantastic, this man is pure class, without doubt a true angler the fact he openly displays his immense respect for his adversary is appreciated by this lifelong fisherman for sure!! I saw Jeremy Wade of River Monsters catch a massive tiger fish.....threy be scary. The one Jeremy caught was 3 times the size of this guys but good effort none the less.

Sorry Andy, I was pulling for you all the way, and glad you finally prevailed but..... I kept imagining a whole bunch of tigers down there telling each other about this great guy up there, giving them free fish, if they played tug of war with him.

Little truth, but plenty of 'old school' TV editing, bloating and ruining a fantastic subject. The facts are very few and very far between, a few shots of the actual fish, and the rest is nothing but bs filler.

Thank you for this extremely wild documentary. I have no idea about the Congo river is that big, damn it's vast. I will include this river in my bucket list to visit apart from the Amazon river. Goliath tiger fish and piranha, I'm comin' for ya dudes.

What an awesome documentary. It went far beyond the Goliath, but I was enthralled by Andy’s quest. Who knows if the shaman helped, but he did catch one after she performed her ritual. I think Andy would agree that the only way to catch one is what happened with the wire line wrapping around the jaw, and the hook serving to keep the line taut. I was hoping he’d catch one of the giant ones, but at least he did catch one and we got to see those teeth! I was worried, though, if he hooked a mammoth, if the canoe was sturdy enough to land it. Mainly, he did a terrific job deducing where their habitat would likely be. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. That humongous raft looked like a small, floating village at first, but then I saw the two or so structures were rudimentary and looked like places to just get out of the sun. I’m so glad by sheer luck of the draw that I wasn’t born in such a place as the Congo, torn by civil wars, warring factions and corrupt government after corrupt government keeping the people impoverished. A 5.82 average birth rate per female - worldwide average is just 2.4. Bless those people.

Your perseverance paid off... I've never seen one being caught before and one thing is for sure, I'm not even going to try to by myself...

gaff or dip net, you have to keep the first one so why just depend on the rod to land the fish, it does not make sense to me ,all that effort and you fail because of the landing choices.

Amazing stuff just curious he’s the expert I am by no means anywhere near an expert on fishing nor have I ever been to Africa but when you have the fish on the line and you ruined it in as it gets closer to the boat why not just put a net underneath and scoop it up

There is a line between Brave - and stupidity ...... Diving into the Nile after seeing Crocs and then making a big splash as you dive in ........... is 'tip toeing' that line ........ lol

Always the last day, hour, minute, the catch comes.

The local chief told him to bring the first catch of the tigerfish,because he has the right to eat it(min 24:50)...he did not do it.

My question is why didn't you give it to that guy he asked you to bring him the one you catch . My opinion you should have given it to him so they can see what it is that's in their River they know little about it but they live all around it I think it would have been an informative thing for you to do
