A career is not a real life? Millions of women in the US would disagree. Even her character in TVD , Elena, wanted to go to school before having children. Ian was 10 years older so he was ready for a family. Too many women push aside their dreams for a relationship and end up unfulfilled. I think Nina showed a lot of strength for her age. And she remained professional- unlike Ian.

I was speaking of Nina, not Elena- though I mentioned that even Elena wanted a career..It seems that both Ian and Nina a are now happy with there choices. @Dog lover Nina was 13-14 years younger. But biological age is not that important. More important is the psychological age both partners have, an old person can have a "young" personality and a young person can have an "old" personality. But both should have psychologically the same age. Ian played (!) a sexy bad guy and womanizer with behavior and age 25, both took their romantic role and love story in the show too seriously. This is understandable. But Ian just played the bad sexy guy. I believe in real life he is quite opposite. In the long term Ian's real life personality was older than Nina's, thus he had complete different views, opinions and plans. In contrary to Nikki Reed, which seems to have the same psychological age and plans like Ian, and share the same values. Everytime I read such statements, it is blaming Ian for aging, it is like it was Somerhalder's fault not being young enough for that role, and in the end he believed it himself and said, he can not play a 25 year old with his real age of 40. What should I say about Paul Wesley, playing a 17 year old forever??? In season eight Elena was 28 (real life: 25-26). I guess it was never planned to make more than four seasons, naturally aging Elena had to switch in the show to the other older brother.... For me it looks like Nina first bullied Paul, and later tried to force Ian to leave the show because he broke up with her and she wanted her revenge. Thus she left the show to harm it, and refused to come back. By contract she had to show up in the last episode (like other actors), and that was it. Really, I did not like her immature selfish self-pity Elena-role very much and I do not appreciate such attitude. It is childish. If a couple breaks up, it is usually the fault of both, starting with finding eachother falsely under wrong reasons, and having different plans for the future. For example: if you buy a rotten car, do not blame the seller only, why didn't you check it first?! Why did you buy it?

@Dog lover You are 100% correct. There are videos where Ian told the interviewer that Nina wasn't coming back and they best ending would be for Stefan and Damon to kill themselves together. Also he personally lobbied Julie Plec to stop Nina. In the end he was contractually obligated to work with her. But he ruined the ending by looking angry and barely kissing Elena when he should have picked her up in a rush of joy and love. This was because he was angry with the small amount of the Delena Fandom that didn't like his wife and felt she was responsible fur the break-up.

The real reason they broke up is coz Nina found her real life vampire boyfriend Damon Salvatore n dats me. So I was d reason she broke up wid Ian

(She choose an carrier instead of having children... A child?) Ian for sure wanted to have a wife and children, and found a more serious wife soon in Nikki Reed. In Ian's biography you can read, he joined Catholic schools. Accola-King for instants insisted and had her baby during TVD. We had a similar situation with Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt after her show "Friends" - she also wanted to continue a carrier, he wanted to have a baby. Result: divorce. For a lot of women it maybe sound a little bit crazy, but there are men out there who really want to have their own babies. Even being a single. And they will support every child they get.

I think Ian was mad because he thought he could just move on to a new girlfriend and the fans would love her as much as Nina. And that didn't happen. But we'll never know for sure.

Agree! Nikki wouldn't like it. I followed Nikki's career and stopped liking her. I just saw too many things I didn't like about her. That dinner happened cause they were tired of the MSM drama that followed everyone's lives. If there was a chance to be "friends" it wouldn't happen... Nina & Ian were too good together but at different stages in their lives. Both have moved on, but Everyone can see that they were epic loves to each other... Both are with new partners now and we should respect that. Epic loves dont always end up together. But even though one can respect their choices. Doesn't mean have to like Nikki. Also Ian was an adult and a professional getting paid $ 40, 000 for episode. He should have been able to continue playing the role without retaliating at fans- most of whom had nothing to do with slamming Nikki Reed and were young girls. He way over- reacted, lobbying Julie Plec to not have Nina return for the finale and when that failed he deliberately ruined it by looking angry and being completely devoid of any passion that fans expected and deserved. TVD is still going strong 5 years after it ended.Tens of thousands of fans worldwide weren't even watching it when that drama was going on. I think it was selfish, unprofessional and immature. And Damon is my favorite TV charector of all time. I admire much about Ian but in this he was retaliatory and mean to fans who just wanted a romantic ending to the love story they had been following for years.

We totally agree, it's awesome to see that they're still friends. It shows how much they respect each other and how mature they all are!

I guess they'd fall in love according to their roles on the set and discovered that in reality both were too different with different dreams and views. I wonder if Nina did something... In the end It wasn't that heartbreaking, so a friendship remained. That is possible and happens quite often.

I don't believe they are still friends. Other than that one orchestrated photo, that every media outlet trots out as " proof" there is 0 evidence they are still friends. They don't follow each other on Socisl media and it's Paul Nina hangs out with now- Not Ian. Ian has gone out of his way to trash Delena and made it clear he didn't want Nina coming back for the finale.

@@seawolf365 All we know is, Ian wanted a wife and children, not so Nina, she wanted to have a carrier and fun. Nobody knows what had happened. Rumors had even been talking about pregnancy. Well, didn't take long for Ian to find someone else more serious to marry. In meanwhile, Ian went financially nearly broke because of his managers fund speculations, had been four times in hospital, had been casting for other shows and movies, all during those eight seasons TVD. You can be damn good looking, a good guy and still be unhappy and unlucky. I really, really hope for Ian to get other good roles, with a good director and script (!) he is such a good actor!

That said I agree Ian and Nina are very different. I can't see Nina hanging out at a home farm with chickens and cows like Nikki does. She wanted to develop her career, travel and experience life. So whatever was behind their break- up- there are rumors that Ian cheated on Nina- they both seem happy now. But not friendly. And Ian was in a new show- that he also directed and put Nikki in- called V- Wars on Netflix. It was canceled after 1 season. Looks like he's focusing on his and Paul's Brother's Bond Bourbon now.
