I just got a new Model Y. When the 19s wear out, I'm planning on swapping to custom 18s. It's a cheaper tire with much more benefits. They'll also have a better look, a more comfortable ride, and a thicker sidewall to protect from curb rash.

That is my plan for my M3, but I can't seem to find EV tires for my M3 that are 235/50 R18. I think they will fit, and I can find standard tires that size, but not EV specific tires.

Replacement Michelin OEM at Costco (in Canada) cost $1,700 for a set. I went with Michelin PS4 (Costco version) at $1,250 for a set. They’re much more comfortable than the OEM, no change in efficiency and they appear to be wearing less rapidly. There is a trade off in steering feel. When pushed hard they let go earlier than OEM. Non noise differences.

my wife has had her M3 for 10 months and 3 of the wheels have curb rash. some people on the Tesla forum claims the tires aren't stretched. maybe on paper they aren't, since the treads (235mm/9 inch) are similar width as the wheel (8.5 inch). but irl looking at the tire and wheel the side walls aren't straight up and down, they don't bulge out, they angle towards the treads making the wheel/rim stick out.

My 2013 Cadillac ATS went through tires every 20.000 miles. The same tires on my wife's 2022 Tesla model 3 have already lasted 24,000 miles and are still good. My old Toyota RAV 4 had built in negative camber and would wear away the inside edge of the tire at about 15,000 so the tire was ruined even when the rest of the tread was good. Toyota didn't even leave enough adjustment so you could fix it and there were no aftermarket parts to allow for zero camber. Can't complain about my Tesla, I just got a 2023 Model Y with a different brand tire, I'll keep an eye on them.

Battery being low to the ground doesn’t increase the weight on the tires, they will bear the downwards force from the cars weight if it’s low or high up. During track use you could see different wear due to how the weight loads up in a corner.
@ElMistroFeroz
@ElMistroFeroz 3 месяца назад
Exactly. The only difference is, it's closer to the center of Earth so the battery is heavier by something like 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% when compared to vehicles with higher battery placement. That might mean it will wear faster by like a nanosecond.

Absolutely true on the "how you drive" and the miles you'll get from your tires. I'm an ultra-conservative driver and let FSD do 90%+ of the driving and I easily got 50k miles using the stock Continental ProContact RX Tires 255/45R19 104W XL.
@Dave_Outside
@Dave_Outside 9 месяцев назад
Exactly. Dive conservatively. Don't jackrabbit from light to light. Don't corner aggressively. Don't buy performance tires that have a softer tread compound and wear out quickly. Do all that and your tires will last as they should. Don't and expect to blow a lot of extra bucks on tires.

Have a Y and had to replace fronts at 10K miles. They were to the belts and accused me of racing 10 times when changing them. Had them check my log and they admitted they were wrong. Of course, I still had to pay $1,400 for 2 tires. After I wrote in that it’s ridiculous they only lasted 10K miles, that Tesla waived the warranty (to save money, I’m sure) and then they offered a warranty for $40/tire when it should have been standard. Burning tires 4xs faster isn’t ecological, is it? Never heard a response to my letter in over a year

My Michelin MXM4 tires that my car came with new (2023 M3SR) started at 8/32” tread, which is a lot less than the tires I’ve had before (11/32”). Don’t know why. Anyways, I have about 15-16000 miles and am probably halfway through my tread, so will prob get about 30K miles. I would acquire a Tesla but... the climate I live at, from below -40C, the hail (that can destroy that lovely sunroof), the grains of sand and rocks put on the road during snowy winter months will simply make me spend more money on :( I'm sure someone will say that is (should be) covered by insurance, not where I live. I am swapping between chill and normal modes with the steering wheel button now, after I had to replace the two rear tyres after getting a too close to the sidewall to patch puncture on the rear left - had used about 40% of the tire then, which was my wake up call. 😂 Decided to swap the pair and keep the rear right tyre as a spare.

The cope is hilarious. I’ve never seen a group of people try so hard to sell a product in my life. If the product is good and sustainable, it sells itself. If you have to fudge numbers, use your imagination and outright lie about a product… It’s not going to sell. What’s the resale value for a Tesla after 5 years and a useless battery? How much to replace your battery? Why are you comfortable with child labour working in a strip mine to deliver your “clean energy lithium”? Why do you think coal-powered cars are clean energy? Since the current power grid can barely handle the small amount of EVs, why do you people think they’ll work when everyone is forced to drive one? Given the pathetic range of a few hundred KM (at BEST), why do you think these cars are viable for anyone outside of a city? … just a handful of questions never answered, without a whole lot of bullshit. Enjoy your virtue signalling!
@Frygisk
@Frygisk 7 месяцев назад
Tesla is currently the most sold manufacturer in Norway, and the only one without any promo. so it sells based on quality of cars. Resale value is usually higher than most after 5 years, and the battery and drive units have 8 year warranty. The battery price question is invalid. Do you swap out your engine if the thermostat breaks? No, you swap out that part and go on with your day. Same with a module in a battery pack. Are you comfortable with child labour getting that precious cobalt that is used in refinement of crude oil to make gasoline and diesel? Coal power is bad. Vote for someone that will go with renewablw energy instead, and do like other smart countries. The power grid will always be upgraded according to demand. Always has, always will. Just having people swap out halogen liggt bulbs with led bulbs will resuce the USA power expenditure by 20% alone. At best is vurrently 600km+. Which is a full day drive in most countries. I don't know about you, but I usually need to pee long before I have ever driven that far. Combine a toilet break with a supercharger and you get 2-300km more range in that timeframe. It's ridiculously practical and easy. Tesla are ahead of the game and are aiming for a supercharging station within 50km of anywhere. Range is not a problem at all. Unless you really like kidney stones.

For me, the tech (watch my streaming service in car while waiting), mobile service at my house, low maintenance (never taken car to dealer in 4 years), insane acceleration, and software updates that add more features. The latter is my fave. I would miss all these things if I got another car. The point is different people value different things and I totally get why people are against EV cars because they are different but some people enjoy them for their own reasons.
