The Timberwolves are having their best season in decades but things are chaotic behind the scenes. This is the story of why team ownership hates each other and how it could affect Anthony Edwards’ career moving forward.
Being on top isn’t so bad. You mean it looks bad for Glen Taylor. NVM. Glen Taylor is a damn loser. What’s the worst part about being a fan? Not having that Number 21 in the rafters.
This is why having ownership groups in sports has killed the NBA. The majority of owners become investors instead of a single owner who probably overpaid for the team because he loved the sport. The fans lose because now we become resources to be exploited instead of fans to impress. The mainstream media has been pushing for ownership groups in the NFL, and succeeded in multiple cases so far. The Denver Broncos being the perfect example. We should hate the move to ownership groups. It will kill every sport it infects.
No one can afford these teams anymore with their inflated value unless you have 10’s of billions of dollars and can afford to spend a few billion on a team to buy them outright
Lmaooo do you know how expensive these teams are nowadays. There are hardly any owners that can afford a team by themselves. & this is in every sport. Billionaires aren’t just lining up to buy teams bro
I hate capitalism but the reason for ownership groups is more practical than agenda driven. Theres very few individuals who can afford pro sports teams by themselves and many of those aren't interested in sports. So borderline billionaires pooling their money together is really the only way owners can sell.
Short answer when you have a contract to sell, you no longer are majority owner. Facts are Arod and Lore had the money and in the contract it states there are escalators that trigger. Those escalators also state there is an extension that kicks in once the paper work gets filed. Which it was as stated even in this video. Very short answer is Glen Taylor is a greedy SOB. This is also not the first time he has pulled crap like this
@@youthanasia007 you don’t get to being a billionaire by being a nice guy. You are a cut throat business man that screws people constantly for personal gain.
Videos like these are why I have notifications on and watch every one. Always giving us inside information to issues on the court and off the court.. From players, to coaches, the front offices, ownership, the media.. Even stuff on the agents that I never knew before and probably wouldn't know if it wasn't for you. I appreciate what you do.
@@MaximusR93He’ll probably put a sculpture of himself outside the arena and ultimately change their name from the T-Wolves to The A-Rods… We’re talking about a guy who had multiple paintings of himself in his mansion, including himself as a centaur. Dudes fucking self obsessed and weird. I like most athletes but A-Rod always made me cringe… though he was the best infielder of the 2000s without a doubt.
It’s not about moving the team, it’s about the value of the team going forward! It’s gonna increase 25+% within the next 5 years and that’s a BILLION DOLLAR INCREASE TAYLOR is playing dirty and bad karma will hunt the Wolves
Fr they had 3 years to finalize that last 40%. That’s fully on them. I’m on the original owners side. They clearly aren’t prudent enough to have full majority.
@KyleWatters71 yeah and it's like sure it does suck that they had the papers on adams desk when the deadline came but that's 100% on them. This isn't a school project it's a deal you've had set for 3 years.
@@KyleWatters71 As a Wolves fan, that's very worrisome. Wolves are about to have 3 max player, and have to many extensions coming soon. With the new CBA, the 2nd Tax threshold is no joke. Can Marc and Alex really poney up the money to keep the team together?
Yeah they fumbled it bad. But Glen Taylor ain't better. Just ask Kevin Garnett and other ex Wolves. Imagine what they could look like with an owner like Steve Ballmer who only wants to win no matter the cost..
Overall pretty good video, but you're still parroting Glen Taylor's talking point that they missed the deadline. The contract has come out due to another minority owner suing Glen Taylor, and there's a clause that seems to guarantee an automatic 90 day extension if all details are submitted to the NBA and they are just waiting on league approval. Expensive lawyers will argue over this clause, but it isn't as cut and dry as Lore and A-Rod missed the deadline.
Finally someone else that actually knows about what is going on. These media types don't do enough research needed to make decent videos on a topic they clearly know nothing about
As a Wolves fans this is actually amazing news, no way it goes to court and GLEN BITCH ASS TAYLOR gets to keep his 40% with a 90 day extension clause, if that is indeed true
Only one who actually researched this at all. There should have been a guaranteed extension. I don’t see how Glenn gets out of this. I think it’s a ploy to maintain control of the team at least through the season in case they actually make a run.
Dawg Minnesota sports in general is desperate for really any sort of run man. I don't keep up much with hockey so idk about that but football and basketball we been in a drought now for decades. It's actually so depressing
This is why i love the german bundesliga rule. 50+1, which means that the fans must always control 51% of the team, that way some rich guy cant just come in buy the whole team and exploit it. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part that has kept the teams safe and made tickets affordable.
A. Rod and Lore fault, why would you not close on a deal worth double the price? You signed a contract and missed the deadline owner doesn't owe them a thing.
Sheesh you have no clue what you're talking about. They did close on the deal. They filed the paperwork prior to the deadline expiring. There is also a clause in the contract that an extension kicks in because they have to wait on the NBA approval. So this is more on Glen Taylor being a greedy jackarse and wants more money now. Facts are he is a terrible owner
@@youthanasia007they waited till the last minute to submit it that’s why they missed the deadline. Don’t try to rationalize it in their favour. They knew full well how bureaucratic the NBA is and still chose to wait till the last minute to get all their ducks in a row. Fully on A-Rod. Dudes whole life has been assuming things will work out for him (bc they have despite the fact that they shouldn’t have.)
These old NBA owners need to call it quits. They're too out of touch with the times and still hoarding money for themselves instead of benefiting what they chose to be part of. Then, they try to find a way to get off easily without repercussion
$600 MLN for 40% of a team worth $3Billion is actually HUGE discount. You can't do basic maths if you think they got screwed. You do know that money loses value everyday so the initial cost should be adjusted at least by inflation. This is an associate for A rod so it is actually a good situation. They are really NOT little kids. They get to put 40% of the increase in value and this helps their credit rating,
I know. People don't understand they basically got an agreement to purchase the team allowed them to float essentially 0 dollar loans with the agreement being in place which allowed money to be used elsewhere then when the value of the team blew up Taylor went oops that was dumb of me, oh wait I can try to get more out of them and if it fails, well nothing ventured nothing gained and that is where we are at right now. Taylor did them a solid on the original deal, then saw the value skyrocket and went well, fuck I left a billion on the table, lets see if I can get that. Taylor is NOT a smart businessman. People confuse brains with opportunity. Sometimes in business it isn't how smart you are, just taking advantage of opportunities when they happen.
Glen Taylor straight up scammed them and schooled them. Alex and his commercial partners just got robbed and i'm all for billionaires wrestling each other
As a Dodgers fan, I still remember when Frank McCourt bought the Dodgers on Credit. He was a terrible owner. You don't want a cheapskate buying your team.
I’m not sure I’ve heard anyone say anything nice about Alex Rodriguez. Hard for me to feel any sympathy for him, and maybe T-Wolves fans might not want him as an owner.
No court is going to overturn a contract unless the contract was illegal. A Rod best bet is to come up with more money to buy the entire team. The Twolves stock is only going up if they cab keep their roster.
It's not called a DEADLINE for nothing. When you get involved in a oddly structured deal you need to meet all requirements you agreed to meet otherwise you lose the deal and everything you have put into it up to that point. Happens all the time with people leasing to own a home because at some point things go bad and the buyer can't make the payments and the deal is broken so it's try again or go elsewhere and try to do it differently.
Who else would pay? I think it’s more the expenses come out of their profits more than them actually paying, unless the business loses money then they’d have to pay
Bro, please do one on Tom Gores, the Pistons owner. He is involved in a lawsuit right now regarding a telecommunications company and private prisons and how they gouged prisoners to profit off of them talking to their families. He's gross.
As for the uncertainty over their future prospects, the players will definitely be getting knocked out in playoffs. This has serious psychological implications, the owners where never supposed to air out their issues with everyone
Oh how amazing this is! I cannot stand the Timberwolves and Ant Man so seeing them lose today to Denver and then seeing this video brought a smile to my face. They are so screwed.
For the record, Steph and his Dad told Minnesota not to draft him, or they would hold out and not sign the contract. So Minnesota didn’t draft Curry because of that.
if he was as greedy as this video assumes. Why would he have 3 max players on his roster? Sounds more like sentiment then greed. Or maybe a mixture of both.
Ok... the guys double their money on a 600 millions $ investment. Now the owners that has a 60% stake has a claim to stay the owners because they didn't respect the deadline... meaning the 900 millions $ stake can now be sold for 1.8 billions $. Pretty sure anyone would of said... sorry too late... does that make him gready? No, its just the normal way of doing business. Same thing happens all the time... if I called my hotels to try to cancel my stay free of charge and the limit was yesterday... they will say, sorry too late. If I have a two year warranty on a product and I bring it the day after they will say: sorry too late. They just made a 900 millions $ mistake. They should of had a back up plan and had him sign an extension. Are we seriously supposed to feel bad for a guy that became rich by cheating at a sport and than rated out everyone else?
Contract had a clause already for an extension. Once paperwork is filed by the date. Which it was. It's not their fault they have to wait for the NBA to approve. Also your other points are irrelevant and not on the same context. First your Hotel example is just flat out wrong. I cancel the day of all the time and never get charged. Warranties also have ways built in to have them approved even if you think they have expired.
Someone tell this clown that team revenue pays for most operating expenses as well as luxury tax. Minnesota is making bucks now and have the best American born ball player
