When Jason said “you let me to rot in that abandoned wing of Arkham” is actually a reference that Jason was in Batman Arkham Asylum the entire time. Joker just had him hidden and locked away in secret so Batman wouldn’t accidentally find him. It was during the events of Batman Arkham Asylum that Jason actually escaped. There’s a whole comic that describes what exactly happened

In the comics the fans voted for Jadon Todd to die. DC Comics eventually brought him back as Red Hood and now he’s a beloved character. The Arkham Knight is just a adaptation the games made on his identity

A cool detail about the reveal, is when he takes the broken mask off, the blue lights on his suit go darker. Then when he closes the red mask, they glow red.

“You left me to rot in that abandoned wing of Arkham for over a year…with him.” This is a reference to Arkham Asylum where in the comic _Under The Red Hood_ , Joker kept Jason locked away in a sealed off portion of Arkham Asylum so that Batman wouldn’t find him. The part where we saw Joker shoot Jason was set up where Joker had Jason wear bulletproof armor where Jason was just knocked unconscious. It’s during the events of Arkham Asylum where Jason escapes and becomes the Arkham Knight. So basically when you look at it, the Arkham trilogy is a three act tragedy play. It focuses on the tragedy of Batman, the Joker, and the Bat-Family.

This game was honestly my very first time learning about *Jason Todd.* I didn't know he was the 2nd Robin within the Batman lore. So even tho this is technically *Red Hood,* Jason being *Arkham Knight* didn't really bother me as it is a well-done twist that I wasn't expecting

I have been SO in love with this series that my adhd self has just been spontaneously saying Scarecrow lines from this game lol

A couple of things to keep in mind, Miranda: 1) John Noble also voices another iconic DC villain, Brainiac, in 2013's Superman: Unbound, which is an adaptation of Geoff Johns' "Superman: Brainiac" storyline from 2008. 2) There is a Batman storyline called "Under the Red Hood" by Judd Winick, which ran from 2005 to 2006 and serves as a follow-up to "Hush". In 2010 it was adapted into an animated movie bearing the same title, and it's one of the best Batman flicks ever made.

Even though the Arkham Knight being Jason was telegraphed pretty early on, it really didn't matter because the actors did such a fantastic job when the two finally met again.

Sppoilers for the comics and Under the Red hood movie. Jason did die in the comics and it was actually readers who got to decide if he lived or died. More people chose die because he wasen't as well liked as Dick. This of course is a monumental moment in comic history. Its also basically a constant for any main batman lore after awhile. Like his parents dying, The Joker crippeling Barbra, and finally the Joker killing Jason. Originally he came back due to the crisis on infinite earths where Superboy prime punced trough reality creating a new universe with a bunch of incinsistancies and random bs happening like Jason coming back to life. A pretty confusing and convoluted way to do it. The most popular way for it to happen as popularised by Under the Red hood movie Ras hierd the Joker as a distraction and killed Jason. Ras did not want this to happen and to make upp for it he brought Jason back with the lazarus pitt. This might have made him more crazy or maybe there was darkness within him from the start as he had a rough childhood compared to any other Robin exept maybe Damian. This method for Jasons resurection is basically considerd the best way to do it as it makes a lot more sense. Even in the comics they had him be heald in the lazarus pitt later after the whole superboy prime thing.

After you read ‘A Death in the Family’, I strongly recommend two comics as follow-ups: ‘A Lonely Place of Dying’ and ‘Under the Red Hood’. The animated film version of ‘Under the Red Hood’ is considered one of the best DC has ever made.

I suggest you use the normal story skin for the last part Miranda! It gives a whole lot more emotion to the ending than any other skin!

Another connection between the Batman Arkham games and the Lord of the Rings besides Scarecrow's voice actor is that The Shadow of Mordor game was supposed to be another Batman Arkham game but they retooled it into a Lord of the Rings game. Shadow of Mordor and it's sequel both share very similar combat mechanics to the Batman Arkham games.

Miranda being shocked by the most obvious reveal in the trilogy is such a miranda thing to do. I love her😭😭😭

As someone who does NOT enjoy racing/driving games (both because they're not my cup of tea and because I'm on the back half of "middle age" so my reflexes are decaying) I had absolutely no problem with the Batmobile in this game. It was challenging at times, but never so challenging that I couldn't learn my way through it. Even the tough Riddler races I was able to get my way through after a half-dozen tries or so. It helped that the Batmobile basically had an "instant brake" whenever you changed to Battle mode so any time I felt myself getting a bit out of control I could instantly stop and reorient--and then afterburner right back up to top speed. If the Batmobile portions of the game aren't someone's favorite that's fine, but I saw SO much vitriol for the mechanic when the game first came out it initially put me off purchasing it--and what a game I would have been missing out on had I heeded those contrarian "very online" people! There's very little wrong with the Batmobile and how it works in this game. People just seem to confuse "not preferred" for "terrible"...a poison that has seeped into pretty much every media these days.

59:50 you also seemed to have not noticed that he called you "Bruce", not Batman. So he knew that Batman is Bruce Wayne. That was one of the many clues as to who the Knight was. Along with the major clue of the Jason flashbacks. The game plot was kinda spoiled on release because the Red Hood DLC content was available as pre-order bonus.

Great reaction and playthrough! Having never played the game I was pretty sure I knew who the Arkham Knight was gonna be, based off the animated material I've seen and the Titans series. Really hope you end up playing Gotham Knights when this is done.

Looking back at your first Asylum video, and you swore that all you know is button mashing, but this game taught you, and now you are an absolute wizard at it now! Awesome job! If you could, I would hope that you would react to the animated Batman film "Batman: Under the Red Hood". It came out in 2010, and it partially adapts a version of "A Death in The Family" but then also adapts the comic story "Batman: Under the Hood" whish is the first appearance of Red Hood as a character. It's my favorite Batman thing, and I watch it a lot, and I like a lot of Batman stuff. Haha. It should be on HBO Max. I think you would absolutely love it.

Just got out of work, I’m stressed and tired, but at least I’m greeted by this nice surprise to kick back to.

When stuff started coming out about the game most assumed the Arkham Knight was Jason but Rocksteady kept stating it was an original character and announced Red Hood would be available in extra content. That made me think it could be Anarky or maybe Rocksteady's version of Wrath (one of the many evil gun totting Batmen), until Jason showed up in the flashbacks and it became obvious it was going to be him. Paul Dini who wrote the first 2 games also didn't use Jason in the animated series instead making Tim Drake a combo of Jason/Tim hence the lack of mention of him in those games, it is doubtful that he would've been involved had Dini completed the series. 1:18 Joker on the statue overlooking the city. 3:03 Mr Wayne, I don't tell so wood...the gingers are dropping like flies. 21:00 Little Swamp Thing reference 33:00 One thing it doesn't look like is a poster for Bram Stoker's Dracula. 47:47 Still unfamiliar with the "When in doubt, use the Batmobile" gameplan.

I can understand your frustration, but I really enjoyed the driving in this game, so I had a lot of fun with that Knight section.

Part of the issue some have with the story is people figured out AK was Jason before the game came out and Rockstesdy insisted over and over he wasn't and AK was an original character.

One thing about the Batman comics, movies and games is that they don't necessarily have to have an estabilished canon story. A lot of events might be referenced to be the same or similar, but the artists take a considerable amount of freedom with some of the stuff. I think it's a positive but I can also see how for newcomers it can get confusing.

Jason Todd is the Second Robin who does die by being killed by the joker than comes back to life from a powerful resurrection of the Lazarus pits and becomes Red Hood, that’s the original story

Unfortunately the Red Hood DLC kind of spoiled the identity of the Arkham Knight even before the flashbacks of Jason and the Joker came up

Actually I think in the comics after Joker kills a bunch of children and stitched all the body parts together ( a mother was crying, trying to piece her son back together) Jason and Batman got into a fight about why he can't just kill Joker, so Jason looked for Joker by himself and got captured. Joker held Jason in an abandoned wing at Arkham asylum and tortured him for 2 YEARS ( I think ) not only Joker but Harley, Bane, Killer croc and many others tortured him too. Scarecrow actually just sat and looked at him for hours. Joker even got inmates to dress as Batman to condition Jason and blame Batman for his imprisonment and I think it was said that Jason was raped multiple times during those 2 years, not by Joker but other inmates at Arkham.

Personally, The feature animated film, Batman: Under the Red Hood, is basically Death in the Family..... But an animated movie and the Voice Actor for Bender Rodrigues plays the Joker in this one. Also on HBO Max, there's an interactive version of death in the family. Same voice actors and animation from the Red Hood movie too!

Losing Ivy made me very sad. Least her final act was helping Batman R.I.P. Poison Ivy I didn’t want to tell you the Arkham Knight’s identity. Wanted you to be surprised.

1:04:00 the "Death in the family" story is just the first part. Long story short (and before some retcons), Jason came back because of a character called "Superboy Prime" (A Superman from an alternate earth where other superheroes don't exist) had a story where he became a multiverse villain, got imprisoned outside of the multiverse, and in anger he became smashing on the "walls of the DC universe" and it caused ripples in the universe which changed events in the universe. One of which caused Jason to come back to life wandering aimlessly without conscious and personality. From there, he was found by Thalia and she put him in a Lazarus pit to try and heal his body and mind and from there he began his vengeance against Batman for letting him die.

The trailer for the second Joker film just came out and it's beautiful, I'd love to see you react to the trailer and also to the first film if you haven't watched it yet on your reacts channel

BTW when a character glows with a blue highlight during a fight (39:06) that means you can use something in the environment to defeat that guy. I haven't seen you use this. It's really fun.

After reading A Death In The Family watch the DC animated movie UNDER THE RED HOOD to get a better understanding of Jason Todd's story of becoming the Red Hood. The Arkham Knight is just a name for these games. Jason Todd was a special case when it came to comic book characters, I remember back in the day, DC left Jason's fate up to the fans. There was a 1-900 number we could call and decide wether we wanted the comic writers to let Jason live or die...and the fans decided he die. Lol but his story doesn't end there.

Death in the Family is a compilation of chapters in the regular Batman run, instead of something like Year One, so theres weird plots happenig in the history.

I'm not sure if the comic A Death in the Family makes it clear, but it came out in individual comics and had a big cliffhanger, the outcome of the cliffhanger was decided by a telephone call in line where people paid per call to vote. Rumored that one guy called in hundreds of times to vote for the outcome that was used. With the identity revealed, another piece of Batman media can be recommended, the animated movie: Under the Red Hood. This is the follow up to A Death in the Family, but we couldn't really recommend it until you saw the twist. Unfortunately, the twist really didn't work for pre-existing Batman fans who knew of Jason Todd's story, many of whom figured it out before the game came out from the design of the Arkham Knight alone. It's one of the reasons why a lot of fans were disappointed by the story when it came out because they solved the big mystery in the Arkham Knight's intro when he calls Batman "old man" (at least that's when I figured it out). So the twist almost relies on not being a big Batman fan before playing the Arkham series, but if you played them as they came out and became a fan, you had years to watch the Batman movies before Knight was released. Luckily you played them one right after the other so you got to experience the game without his identity being spoiled.

Some people were upset when they found out that Jason was the Arkham Knight. When the trailer came out, everyone knew and was disappointed. The ones who made the game said it wasn't Jason, but an original character, but they weren't fooling anybody.
