The TU-2 was esteemed for its robustness, speed, and precision and played a crucial role on the Eastern Front. It emerged from the competent design bureau led by Andrei Tupolev and was one of the finest Soviet bombers of the era, comparing favorably with contemporary Allied bombers like the North American B-25 Mitchell in terms of speed and payload.
