My music book review series is meant to look at books that intend to answer some of the most important things we want to know about music - I.e. How to compose, learn to write music, learn to arrange, learn music theory - and evaluate how well they discuss those topics.
Along with that, I want to discuss what makes a book ‘good’ - what makes it flow, how the argument is structured, and what kind of things can detract from the reading experience, through pointing out what makes different books difficult for me to read.
Most importantly, I want to showcase helpful resources for whatever you might be looking for in music! Hopefully these reviews help you in some way, shape, or form, and be sure to like, subscribe, or leave a comment if you’ve enjoyed!

Nice book, I remember when I was studying guitar at university, a friend lent me this book and it blew my mind, though I was not prepared at that time for most part of the informatioon, it really gave me a wide open mind and lots of elements to create music and a lot of diferent composer names that I didnt know as well. Greetings from Argentina 🙏

Thanks so much for posting the link to the music examples. I had no idea they existed and as an injured piano player I've had a hard time getting through the content in this text. Thanks!!

Do you know what's the meaning of the number that comes after the source material? Like "Piano Sonata, p. 15 (Schott)". Does that p. 15 referres to the page of the material in the edition mentioned? I feel that the source material is not clearly cites, but apart from that it seems to be a good book Thank you 😊

For the most part, yes! The name in brackets is typically the publisher, for example, "Bela Bartok, String Quartet No. 4, pg. 3 (Boosey)" indicates the piece is published by Boosey & Hawkes, and Persichetti is referencing page 3.

Nice! Thanks for answering so fast. In my opinion, it would've been more useful to indicate the bars idk
