I remember John Brooks from when I would go to chess tournaments in Michigan 25 years ago. His classical rating would usually fluctuate between the high 2100s and low 2200s but in blitz he was absurdly strong. I remember watching him give masters 5-2 odds in money games and he would win around 70 to 80 percent of the games. Glad to see he is still going strong.

@@FD-mz1id I don't remember that as it was so long ago. We didn't know each other much at all but we were always cordial and did play some blitz. He would always give me 5-2 time odds and beat me the majority of the games despite my being rated higher than him in over the board chess. I don't remember ever feeling that he was beating me some sort of illegitimate way-he was just much stronger than me in blitz. He was probably doing it back then as well I would imagine but it wouldn't have been as noticeable since I was moving way slower than Hikaru and if he was correcting a misplaced piece while I was thinking about my reply it wouldn't have really registered much with me. I met Hikaru one time when he came to a tournament in Phoenix and he was just really great to everyone he dealt with. It doesn't surprise me that Hikaru never said anything about it. A grandmaster like Walter Browne would have been on John the very first time he did this and if he kept on doing it would have just walked away from the board. But the great majority of players tend to tolerate these things in skittles game which is probably why John still has the habit after 50 years.
