My great-great-grandfather was a 2LT in the 2d (NY) Cavalry at Brandy Station. Mentioned in dispatches after the battle. Died soon thereafter

@James Dickey. Wasn't the 2nd NY referred to as the "Harris Light Cavalry" with troopers from Long Island; (where I'm from)?

Great video. Civil War is always interesting. While familiar with the big picture, I always enjoy the tidbit trivia. Shelby Foote was a master of little known facts!

At the conclusion of the war Custer's breveted rank of Maj. General was removed and he reverted to his pre-war rank of Captain. He was then promoted to Lt. Colonel in the regular army and assigned to fight in the Indian wars.

It wouldn’t be that hard to find an actual Southerner to narrate the Southern voices.

I always wondered how reenactors on horse back safely show casualties as falling off a horse probably is not that comfortable or safe

You do it uncomfortably and unsafe, or you dismount to fire and take a hit then

@Stone Cold Steve Autism Revisionist history would have Lee at fault for Stuart's tardiness at Gettysburg.

As a Cavalryman (2nd and 14th) Custer was an arrogant and ignorant SOB. His arrogance cost a lot of good men their lives.
@paulgiarmo3628
@paulgiarmo3628 Год назад
@Aaron Sanborn. Custer had a brilliant, unmatched service record during the Civil War, and at the age of only 23, became the youngest general in U.S. Army history.. He successfully defended the rear of the Union Army against Confederate General JEB Stuart's attacks on the third day of the battle of Gettysburg, and a year later, troops under his command mortally wounded the vaunted Stuart at Yellow Tavern, Virginia. What you derisively refer to as his arrogance and ignorance shows a complete lack of historical knowledge and military tactics. It's just a cheap shot at an American hero. So keep your "woke" comments to yourself. You'll lose the debate.

@@paulgiarmo3628 While I agree with most of what you said, nobody here's "woke".
