The Citroen Ami and the Renault 16 actually were quite nice cars.

Like others stated, beauty [ or “ugliness “] is in the eyes of the beholder. Some of these cars are not ugly.

The Renault 16 was very comfortable, more practical than anything else and could seat six by having a column change gearbox. Much better than todays SUVs.

The Hornet and the Imp were ok

Bad list. Even Giorgetto Giugiaro must have loved the Alfa Junior Z as his beautiful design for the Alfasud Sprint is clearly influenced by it. And the Renault 16? This is not a good list.

The CHECKER Marathon was not “ugly “ - just that, the body was put into production in 1955, and kept that body style until 1982, with few styling changes, ie: the grill. So, out of date, yes, but , ugly, no. 🚗🙂

The early to mid 60s was a weird time for car design. They were moving away from the fins and chrome of the 50s but the coke bottle design of the muscle cars hadn’t yet emerged

Fun fact: The Citroen Ami was the car Flaminio Bertone, the designer of the DS, thought to be his best. In his defense: He started in the 1920 where such barock was all the rage. In his “offense”: It proves the DS was just as much a result of Andre Lefevbre’s vision. It is said he held two hands together with their palms slightly curved and said to Bertoni: “This is what it should look like”. Not a truly bad word about Bertoni though. What he lacked in intuitive flair and sketching skills he compensated with hard work. Sounds like someone I know.

Citroen Ami 6 , yes it´s ugly but with style and charm.

In defence of the checker...it was designed to be a taxi cab. A truck in a car body built to last and be bomb proof. And it was exactly that!!! Show me a pretty taxi from them days....

The Wolseley Hornet and the Hillman Imp were actually very nice cars, visually. The Imp was unreliable but that is no reason to say it is ugly. Like all cars of the era, they were more dangerous to occupants in the event of a collision, but in some ways they were safer, having good all-round visibility.

A few years back there was a Marlin done over as a ProTour or Restomod. Most people could not figure out the model of vehicle.

That Citroen isn't ugly, it's just plain hideous. I disagree about the original Valiant's inclusion in this list though.

Valiant struck me even at age c.5 as a stunningly beautiful car! 🤩 Similar elements on '62 Dodge, however, were another story 🤢 Your views are clearly not pervasive.

As a kid, in the 60s, seeing the decade out in the last of my teens, I recall all the UK models. They weren't really, ugly, at least not in comparison with the remnants of the pre-war years. After the war, car manufacturers, carried on in the same old manner. The Wolseley Hornet (BTW, many people mispronounced it as Wolsy), was an attempt to create a luxury looking car. It had more kerb appeal, than the old models. As for the Lotus Europa, well who wouldn't want one, a poor guy's sports car, mid engined, fibre glass body (no rust). Funny thing was, when you walked past one, it didn't come higher than your waist. Then we have the Imp! Again, it was different, rear engined! Yes, it did look nice to me as a kid. But, it had a dark secret. In a frontal impact, there was no protection for the front occupants. It just folded. The manufacturers, and gov't knew it, and blocked the information. However, the information was freely available in American gov't.

If there was an "UGLY" domestic car in the early to mid 60's, it was generally a Chrysler product!!!

The Hillman Imp was potentially an excellent car and could have a big success if it were not for the early teething troubles, and the Europa was, admittedly,not to everybody's tastes but the later Europa's were even worse

I never saw any of these cars in person but back in the 70's when I saw the front end of a Citroen AMI on TV I found it atrocious and still found it atrocious especially the slanted back berline version.

No idea who the boy is trying to pronounce styles on cars; he does know better with pronouncing their names. Better for this child to stick to video games.

The horrendous East German Wartburg 353 (AKA Wartburg Knight in the UK) should be added to this list. It was very ugly even by communist standards.

Why are showing a Wolsley 1500, that is not a Hornet, which is not an ugly car!

The 1962 Dodge Dart and Polara were truly hideous looking. Virgil Exner was at his nadir in taste by that time.

You nailed all of them, bar the last one. The Junior Z is worldwide considered as a masterpiece. That said, some of them are ugly, but in the name of practicality.

I actually like the Marlin better than some of the plain jane AMC models. Gremlins would replace it! - A hatchback created by surgically removing the trub=nk!

I had a Ami when I lived in Spain. Bought it cheap off a friend. It was rough and rattly. A refurbed engine was installed and hey presto! Great cars. You get to appreciate the country side more.

I had a 61 Plymouth two door Belva deer hard top I thought it was a nice looking car a hell a lot better than 1960 with the big fins I actually like that card
