I'm unusual because I love the loudness of my Sun Counure. I am profoundly Deaf with over 90 decibel hearing loss, but I can hear my Sun clear as a bell every time he screams! He even alerts me to someone knocking at the door lol. I've had him since he was 6 months old and he'll be 17 next month. Every day has been a gift with him and I hope there's many more years ahead. My only regret is never getting him a mate. I live on a pond with lots of birds, ducks, egrets etc that come right up to the patio window and I wonder what he thinks when he sees them, and if he wants to be with another bird. But then I think if I got a bird at this point in time, he'd be extremely territorial and possibly attack the newcomer which wouldn't be fair to the new bird. So I keep going back and forth on it. I never knew a Quaker Parrot and Sun Conure could get along like yours do! If I ever do get another bird, it would definitely be a Quaker. They look so adorable. :)
Oh my goodness this is the cutest thing ive ever read! You guys are such a perfect match 🥺 Also for getting another bird just be careful because some sun conures are very possessive and jealous and are happy being solo birds. Just depends on their personality that you would know best :)
@@mimisbirdhouse Thanks and I tend to agree. I think he's just fine being a solo bird and he has run of the house so another bird would probably be more of a threat to his territory than a friend to him. This is why I always wind up putting that thought on the back burner....besides, I think after 17 years together he considers me his mate anyway lol.
Bless you for having so much love and patience. I’d go NUTS with that screeching bird- regardless how beautiful or cuddly they are. Thanks for the warning.
I have a Sun Conure and he is my baby . Yes he is loud and he’s not an easy guy . If he wants something he would insists and that includes screaming and biting LOL. Maybe that’s because I spoil him too much , my bad. But yeah he’s my baby . I love him with all my heart and soul . Equal to my human children .
I spoiled my sun so much too cause she was the best behaved I never had to scold her or limit her with anything. Then she hit puberty and because she never learnt discipline this is why she throws the worst tantrums 😂 still love her to death
I have a male sun conure since 7 months. His first birthday will be in two days. He´s such a cute guy. He likes to cuddle, giving kisses ect. He has learned to make his poo in his cage or on his training park where he has many toys. He´s not very loud. He is screaming loud when we leave the room, or when we entry. But the rest of the time he makes some not disturbing melodies and sounds . He bites sometimes, but it doesn´t hurt. Now i´m searching for a girl for my little cutie. I love him so much.
I have two sun conures and they can get loud for sure! Mine also love to cuddle and every evening enjoy cuddle time under the blankets with me at night. The male, Bruno loves everyone in the house, but my female Waffles, only loves the women in the house and will divebomb my husband and the other men in the house when she feels like it! Sometimes she will be loving and want to play with them and other times LOOK OUT! She is the perfect definition of a diva!
My mustached parakeet likes to troll my sun conure. It’s hysterical. Sunnies are agents of chaos and loud. But they are little fluffy bundles of love and a good friend.
I have a Pineapple and a Black-capped and they're pretty quiet unless someone's coming through the front door or vacuuming. A bird that's against blondes 🤣🤣 I'm so tickled!!
You are so lucky! I want my fourth bird to be a caique so badly. But yeah there are exceptions. One of my quakers is really quiet to be a quaker. Though sun conures and pineapple conures have different noise levels 😝
I have a rehome Sun Conure "Melo" the previous owner said it was around 2 yrs old. I have had a few parakeets over my life. And now that I'm retired I thought I'd get another bird. I wasn't looking for a conure but I got a really good deal off Craigslist. I took Melo to the vet as soon as I got it just for a check up. And thankfully all is well. But when I was at the vet I asked if Melo was a he or a she. The vet said the only way to tell was with a dna test. ? I have no reason to doubt her, but that seemed a little unbelievable. But anyway I have had Melo for around a year and I have no idea if it's a male or female. lol Melo has much more of a raspy scream than Mango seems to have but it could be the computer speakers limitations. Melo does bite, but (I'm gonna say he but I really don't know.) he has a great deal of control of how hard he bites. I am sure he has never come close to biting me as hard as he can. He's never drawn blood, It's usually just a warning that I am moving my hands too fast and I have startled him. Melo loves anyone that will let him land on them. I have extra towels or an extra shirt for guests to wear so he can pick and tear and poop without ruining their clothes. If I cup my hands he will go inside and sleep. It's pretty funny his head and upper part of his wings are inside my cupped hands and the rest of his body is just hanging out. lol Sometimes he will nibble on the inside of my cupped hands and get all acrobatic which is pretty cute but his claws are usually more painful than his biting. A lot of times I will ramble up a paper towel and hold it in my closed fist. He will absolutely destroy that thing trying to get it out. That keeps him entertained for at least 1/2 an hour, sometimes more. Sometimes he will accidently get a piece of my hand while he's destroying the paper, but he catches himself and stops most of the time without me pulling away. But yes he want's to be on me all the time. I limit his me time and make him sit on a perch or a folded towel. And the vet said I should not let him sit on my shoulder too long. She didn't elaborate why. Maybe because I'd be covered in poop all the time if I did.
My Charlie gave me tinnitus about a year and a half ago. I woke up one day and my left ear was ringing. Just a warning for those who let their bird squawk while on their shoulder! He is extremely jealous and protective. He won't let anyone come near me! He doesn't sleep in his cage. He sleeps in a baby blanket in one of my dresser drawers. He feels more comfortable with something covering his back. There's so much more but not enough time! 😁
Mine will scream right into my ear on purpose because she is mad, my hearing is not the best from multiple occurrences but wow tinnitus!!! Im sorry to hear that 😢 Also the baby blanket is so cute 😭😭😭 suns sleep in tree hollows so they’re comfort is always on their belly, mine sleeping in a hanging box with my quaker
@@mimisbirdhouse I'm not too concerned about the ringing. I don't really even notice it anymore. Besides it's a small price to pay for all the happiness that he brings me 😊 And comfort may have been the wrong word. I think it's more of a security thing. I've snuggled with him in bed many times and no matter how I lay he always scoots on top so hes covered by the blanket. If I'm laying on my stomach he sits on my back. If I'm laying on my left side he sits on my right side. So yeah. That's my baby boy and I love him with all my heart! ❤🙂
I don't why but my grey has always been obsessed with shoulder rushing and then he has a bad habit of ear bitting , so far we haven't had any bleeding but I wouldn't want to test it 😂
Oh no! If he is doing it gently it could be wanting attention or preening. But if he is biting kinda hard and its a habit you dont want, then when he does it place him back on his stand, cage, room, wherever, firmly tell him no, then leave him alone for a little bit to calm down
You are so beautiful I love your makeup. I just got a sun conure yesterday and I love him or her to pieces. Such cuddle bugs. I mean I’m always helping untangle out of my hair 😂😂😂 but they are such sweet hearts. So far if mine isn’t in the mood he nudges me off with his or her head or wings before trying to nip at me. Your bird is absolutely beautiful. Mine is just 8 weeks old can’t wait for its full colors to come in. ❤
Thank you so much that means alot ☺️ Congrats on your new baby! When they are babies it makes me laugh because they look like mouldy oranges 😂 8 weeks sound really young! Are you formula feeding?
My Sunny (his name) turned 17 in May 2022. I love him even with all the cons. He is a poop machine and an attention hound. I swear if he could get me to live in his cage with him he would. I'm really thinking about a Jenday Conure maybe one day. Not sure if I could take the twice the noise daily. 🤔
Lmao well you may have had an exception where your sun conure happened to be quieter than most. One of my quakers is very quiet to be a quaker. But scientifically both sun conures and cockatoos can reach 120decibels which is extremely loud
Pretty accurate comparison with Quakers. I have a Quaker and a Sun. Both are 18 and both are females. My sun’s beak can inflict more damage than my Quaker. No one ever talks about when a Sun Conure bites. I have been bitten and I will tell you it hurts more because of their beak strength.
Hello, my sun conure is not cuddly...just during the night in my bedroom. Honnestly, I'm surprised to hear that they bite so much harder than other species. My lovebird is biting more harder than my sun conure. This is my second sun conure et they are not loud. I live in an appartment with no problems.
Sun conures are loud as a fact. But like I said there are exceptions to every bird. Just like you also have a sun conure that isn’t cuddly. Sun conures are quite friendly so if they are bonded they have no reason to bite. Lovebirds are always angry though 😂 But when my sun see’s someone she hates the bite is horrendous
From my niece and vet. At hep you can provide? Oh boy well he’s had a lot of symptoms. Wing flicking, head bobbing, half closed eyes, lethargic, weird poops, occasional vomiting, balance issues, not pooping enough, doesn’t drink water on his own, inflamed GI track, enlarged liver.
I cannot nor can anyone else online help with a medical problem as we are not equipped to help. All you can do is leave them to the care and knowledge of your vet and I truly hope he gets better 🥺
@@mimisbirdhouse thank you and I understand. But of anyone has experienced this with their baby then I want to hear their experience and OPINION. I get it I really do and I appreciate any info. Thank you. So much
We are with 3 at home. But or two suns loves everyone🥰 they hate my boyfriend yes oh and the collor green😂 but they are sweet. And indeed if you say no they just do yes😂😂😂😂😍😍 but i love them😂😍🦜
Omg the dive bombing family members is SO accurate LOL! They will randomly hate certain people for no apparent reason. Ours hates my one brother. Whenever he comes over, he gets dive bombed by our conure. She even drew blood 🩸 on my brothers cheek mid air LOL
@@mimisbirdhouse No. My two little boys just are a little over protective and trying to make their presence known and want to meet your conure but can’t figure out how with a computer screen. Lol
@@mimisbirdhouse I’m sure my boys would enjoy meeting your Mango. I’d suggest a play date but unless you’re in the NJ area, I don’t think that’s feasible. My little boys are generally well behaved as long as people know who they think should be boss. In their cases, they think they are the bosses who are too strong and too smart for their own good. If I turn my back on them, they can get into mischief and have been know to walk off with my dinner. Gotta love them
@@Najumulsaqib lmaoo. Ethical breeder as in, you keep good care of your birds and not as objects. Feed them proper diets, have good and clean cages. You dont clip wings, or sell them before they are fully weaned kinda thing
Great video. And I am making the same mistake over and over, and the mistake is...I am watching Mango screaming in the same room Bruno is in :D And he tries to mimic this sound. But I think sun conures, as beautiful as they are, they have one of the loudest and most ear piercing screams in the whole parrot world. Ok my cockatiel Fred was having the scream that I've only heard in the indiam ringneck and it was terrible (probably because he was neglected in previous homes and he wanted attention) and even though quakers are considered louder, I prefer Bruno's screams than cockatiels. But Bruno has the unpleasand habit or sitting on your shoulder and out of nowhere screaming in your ear. Oh and about the quakers and stealing...YES! Bruno is able to steal important note, your sandwich, piece of cheese :D And about the bites and puberty...oh it is hitting Bruno badly ;) He is biting, screaming and wants to do um...adult stuff ;) And it is so hard to keep him out of the cage now, I have basically everything covered in towels so he can't bite it. Right now, when I am writing this, he try to destroy the aquarium silicon ...you know, the part that is holding two piece of glass together. And quick question. Does any of your quakers holding your nose with their paw from time to time? Bruno is doing it very often, but maybe that's because I taught him "paw" command and he is giving me his paw without a command :D He also loves when I call him good boy, he is then start to speak 'good, good' :D He just enjoy this word so much.
Thats so weird you say that because cockatiels have the quietest scream out of all parrots. You must have gotten that 1 in a million chance but yes it was most likely due to abuse. Oh no Bruno 😂 guess you better start singing him we dont talk about bruno when he does something bad 😂 I also had to keep things covered with towels for awhile as well. Especially when he wanted to bite electrical cords. So great on your part for that 👏🏻 And yes there are many parrots that for whatever reason like to hold or sit on your nose. My cockatiel was like that, she would sit on my nose.
@@mimisbirdhouse haha he is bobbing his head to 'We don't talk about Bruno ' :D Oh and electric chords yes...i need to always keep those that are filter/heater/light in my aquarium because he - in just a second - took off the black gum part of the cable, similar with my graphic tablet. So now i need to cover them when he is flying. When it comes to Fred my cockatiel, yes that was probably because of the abuse because I heard many cockatiels and they have this chirp like scream, but Fred was screaming his lungs off, whole day, ear piercing. But he was rescue, he was (as far as i know his history) at first in a cage with a female in the old lady's house, then lady got sick and gave him to my father's friends, but then he was sitting in the small cage, and kids were probably hitting the cage with hands while he was screaming because he was very aggressive towards hands - took two years for him to stop cutting our hands completely, but he never fully trusted us. Plus he lost the female companion and later budgie companion, so that was probably not doing him anything good. He was pretty old when I got him (around 15 maybe). Then he lost two budgies while being with me - one was very old, second was having some illness :/ Genetic issue or something like that. then he got diabetes, was living for a year with it but one day he just fainted, fell off the perch and spend his two last hours sitting with me covered in blankets :/ Man I literally started to cry right now. His screams were annoying as hell, but if he wasn't neglected in the past he would be awesome companion. He literally comes to me aggressive like dog with rabies, then he learned to trust us (ok not fully but at some level) and was sometimes even sitting on my shoulder, hand. But I remember that losing him was the one of the hardest things in my life. That's why I am so scared that something bad may happen to Bruno. With Fred there was one difference, he was very old for a cockatiel, and in his year of fighting diabetes, monitoring his food and water - if he wasn't having a food for just a while he was fainting (ok not immediately but you know what I mean), he was drinking water like a crazy, at that point he wasn't able to fly anymore, he was just walking and flying very short distances, but I have a year to prepare myself for the lose. It still hurts though. they are not like shrimp tht we can say 'oh sad, but well it is part of life' and go back to our life without mourning. Parrots are literally equal family members. but even though losing a parrot is so hard for me (after losing Hummingbird the budgie and not having any parrot for the first time since I was 6, I wasn't able to move his cage for a week, now I understand better the parents that are not able to move anything in the room) I can't imagine my life without one of those birds :) They may be destructive, and sometimes annoying but they are forever part of my life :D Oh man, such gigantic commant...
Ahahaha 😂 My quakers and sun are actually really well behaved 90% of the time. But yes my sun conure is WAY louder. My quakers just chatter a lot but when my sun starts screaming its BAD. They can reach 120 decibles which is the same a cockatoo can reach while quakers reach 80-90 decibles
HII so currently I am saving for a conure (not the bird itself just the cage and the other necessities) does anyone in the comment section have any tips for me so I can be as prepared as I can? :))
I have a full prepardness video as my channel intro if that would help and of course any other tips from the comments :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6GR_xFnD1do.html
I have a sun conjure use to bite me make blood when my husband was alive now she is my baby hates red color noisy hates my older daughter ok with the younger and just wants to eat our food specialty rice poops everywhere but doesn't destroy anything just want kisses
Well they all come from the great mango tree of the amazon rainforest, Jokes jokes hahaha 😂 tbf she hated her name growing up 😂 i wish i went with papaya which was my first choice
Do not get a Sun conure ever. They should be in the natural habitat and the people who breed them to sell are horrible people. I rescue animals and I have 8 pets, including a sun conure and they are VERY VERY difficult to live with. I trained mine as much as possible , I got her a partner, I keep them in a huge cage inside my huge shed in the back of our house and still her screening drives me crazy especially if you study or work from home, it’s just impossible to stand. No one wants to take care of her when we go for holidays, it’s really hard and I commit to her so I will care for h r anyway but I’m sure people miss treat them a lot because of their nature
Parrots in general should not be bred or be in captivity. Yes they scream like crazy, but i am wondering, does your shed have windows or light coming in? Your sun maybe screaming if theres no windows, if it gets stuffy or too hot. They also need to interact a lot with you, they are very clingy birds, im assuming here please correct me if im wrong but they shouldnt JUST be kept in a shed which again im hoping has big windows
