If Mark hadn’t taken the crap from Vinnie that he did then there would be no Slaughter. Kudos to Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum for doing what they did. ❤😊
You do realize Strum is/was as shady and lacking in ethics, integrity, etc as much as Vinnie right? They were a perfect pair for years and that was part of the reason. Strum was amazing in all the jobs he performed so well in bands. But he also was very cutthroat and would do very dubious things to other musicians, like literally stealing music and then using it for his own purposes. Or applying "pressure" to guys to get what he wanted...> There are many things Strum did that made him great and also made him shady...>
@@joylane2960 No I didn’t realize that. With all due respect to Vinnie & Dana both were a little before my time. Seeing as how my year of birth is 1986. I know that the band Vinnie Vincent Invasion all the members made beautiful music together. I seen Dana in Slaughter at Bay City Michigan with Mark. He plays bass guitar beautifully I am sure that Dana has made mistakes as we all do as people. The fact is that Dana Strum is still around Vinnie’s gone from the music industry. Sorry but that’s the facts.
Actually, that’s not quite what occurred. Chrysalis Records, fed up with the inability to get increased sales, dropped Vinnie from the label, but kept the rest of the band.
Vinnie might fit in today with a Joan jet type band. I love rock n roll music, but man, the painted up girly shit start turning me off of the later rock n roll music.
It sucks that certain people think they are holier than thou.....We did get Slaughter out of this......Slaughter is still rockin til this day....had the privilege to see them with Great White a couple years ago...AWESOME SHOW!!!
I met Mark in Destin Florida at club LA. He was a very polite and respectful guy and he seemed really down to earth and an easy going guy. He didn’t deserve any of Vinny’s crap
Jim Gillette from Nitro said that he actually had auditioned before Mark Slaughter did but was glad he didn't get the gig. He said that he heard about the incident between Mark and Vinnie, he said that if it was him that Vinnie had said that too he would have done what Mark did and gave a killer show.
Funny how things work. When a few years later, VVI was gone and the band Nitro surfaced. A band playing very much in the same vein/gimmick as VVI. And even had Gillette singing and Bobby Rock on drums...> Although their material was VERY over the top, even moreso than the VVI stuff. Those vocals by Gillette (and guitar solo's by their guitarist) are an acquired taste :)
Mark did very well on his own, there are a couple classic with Vinnie's Invasion. But Slaughter the band has many more hits ,they cemented there music in the late 80's early 90's.
Mark is a true professional and always brings a good attitude to the game. He knows the rules and just what it takes to make it in such a callous industry. When I hear the name Slaughter I never think of his time with Vinnie. Only his own band Slaughter, which brings back some fond memories of that era and some kick ass hair metal.
Yep it definitely sounds like the prelude to Slaughter. But the vocals are really lacking in the second VVI album. The first Slaughter album is just a much better album in all respects.
@@joylane2960 I would blame the vocals on VV overbearing attempt at production and not wanting his guitar to be overshadowed. That first official Slaughter album is killer!
Rumor has it he got rid of Faysal Smile . He’s new singer he had . So that’s 2 he’s got rid of in the last year . I’m a fan but I never hold my breath when Vinnie says he’s going to put music out
Vinnie is a legend in his own mind. Seeing some of those old hair band days photos really points out how much Vinnie looks like a chick. He should have been a guitar player in Vixen instead of KISS. He would have fit in better.
That's silly, Paul, looked and pranced around, very flamboyantly, as well. vixen, was started by Jan khuemund, so this comment is actually, ridiculous. Plus kiss, had them join because he wrote good songs, and played, very well. 😢
I somehow made it through 53 years of life without hearing of Vinnie Vincent until I just watched this video. I loved Slaughter back in the day though.
@@KingKull1971 Not possible and yet somehow true. I was never into KISS. Couldn’t give a rat’s @ss about them so didn’t hear of Vinnie through that route. If you’d asked me who Vinnie Vincent was before I saw this video, I would have guessed he was somehow involved in the wrestling world. Dead serious.
Vinnie should start fresh and start a new band called Grandma Vinnies Woke Cookies. Lead singer poopy pants Joe Guitar. Granny vinnie Bass dana “chick wit a dik” strum Drums: Taylor “twit” swift. New 2024 lineup.
And Slaughter is STILL playing, and outsold him in album sales by millions. Has Vinnie played a gig, or a tour since the Invasion? While he was a talented songwriter, and guitar player, even the greatest guitar players don’t overdo it. Eddie didn’t kill every song with a long, drawn out, finger tapping bore. He played to what the song needed, NOT what his ego wanted. I feel kinda sorry for Vinnie in a way, because he had all the right pieces to make it really big. If his ego didn’t get in way, he would have been a superstar.
Lol...went to see the VVI at 'Lamour Brooklyn, the same night the club lost their liquor license...NYPD were carrying the booze out as we were filing in ...
Prob really chapped Vinnie's ass when Slaughter took off 😅...not to mention almost everyone that initially worked w him. Vinnie is a prime example of being one's own worst enemy.
Hmmm... First, Vinnie was lead guitar player in KISS. He gets fired, and he hires Mark Slaughter to be in his band. Mark quits (?), forms Slaughter then they open for KISS during the Hot In The Shade tour. Coincidence? I'm not sure.
After his short stint in "KISS" Vinnie's ego got the best of him The only thing Vinnie has done in the last 36yrs is play the victim if he isn't out there burning bridges. -Vinnie does not play well with others -Vinnie needs professionable help -Vinnie lives in the past because he has nothing going on in the present -It must suck to be Vinnie (Vincent) -Dont be a Vinnie
VVI songs were and are better than Slaughter's because Vinnie was such a strong writer. I would have loved to have seen what a second (3rd) VVI album with Mark could have been. Is there a bigger example of an amazingly talented musician not being able to get out of their own way than Vinnie Vincent?
I love Mark Slaughter as a vocalist, but I gotta say, Vinnie himself had great vocal chops. I kinda feel like he should've just done the singing himself.
I was never a fan of Mark's vocals. A bit too high of a register for my personal taste. But Mark is a great dude and always tells it like it is. Respect.
Pretty much ! Way more bad here than good ! I’ve never heard anyone speak well of him ! Is what it is ! Th3 upside was just never there ! His solos are basically Tourette syndrome on 6 strings ! Just gibberish!
Why is Vinnie still a topic? He had potential he squandered it. People treat him like royalty .why? Yeah he co wrote lick it up and couple of creatures songs, yes he can write a song, he was only in kiss for a few months. the dude sabotaged himself. When he was finally free from kiss he still buried himself. Hes lied and ripped off fans his soloing is atrocious yet hes supposed the guy next to randy rhodes by kiss fan standards. He looks like a 150 year old woman. He had guys like carmine appice try to come out and put a band together with him and vinnie messed that up. Go away vinnie your 15 minutes of fame are up.
I caught VV a couple times live. He wasnt All that at all. I enjoy shredding but over half of his stuff was mindless and lacked continuity. He did surround himself with quality musicians though but he as we all know was/is Bat Shit Crazy.
Mark Slaughter’s vocals were the highlight of both VVI albums, hands down. Vinnie Vincent will always be known more for his ego and bad attitude than ever for his mediocre guitar playing.
Yea it shocks me that people like that trash. You know how some people complain about Yngwie about having no restraint when playing? Vinnie does that times 10.
Wrong, Fleischman's vocals are 1000 times better and the songs off the first VVI record are absolutely legendary. While the garbage sellout songs off the second VVI relegated them to being the flavor of the month pop band right before they broke up...>
Vinnie should've just kept making music instead of suing Kiss, and marrying boozing chicks. I thought Mark, even though a good vocalist, was weak sounding on ASG, Robert was stronger vocally, but would've loved to hear Goran Edmon on ASG. Slaughter ( the band ) was cool, but was more into listening to VVI, and L.A. Guns. Vinnie could've had a great career by co-writing with Kiss, among others as well while continuing to keep VVI alive, and thriving. Some people just don't see the big picture.
Vinnie wasted his talents on KISS, but show boating in a band like KISS, not too smart on Vinnie's part. When it comes to Invasion... he let it all hang out on the guitar and left the rest of the band to basically back him up instead of the vocalists. Again, wasted his talents. If he had only learned to be a team member instead of a glory hound, maybe he'd still be doing something today. How KISS kept playing all those years after Vinnie, is a testament to working by a set of team rules. If you have a formula that makes a band successful, you don't alter it for one member of that band. I think that's why Vinnie didn't continue in music... he is a one man show and cannot get past that. As for Mark Slaughter, his solo band was very good. If fact better than VV Invasion. That band worked as a team and had success, and a couple of hits. I don't recall VV Invasion having any hit songs that got a ton of radio play like Fly to the Angels. I don't hate VV, I pity him... but if I had his talents, I would have made better use of them and left my ego in the dust. A lot can be said for humility.
I have seen in recent years how Vinnie talks good about Kiss and others. I know he is kissing up to them, but I will say that it is good in a way that he pretends to be ok with the past.
As a kid when vinnie V came out. ?? I’d change the channel. Haha. But Mary wasn’t Guitar teacher and I didn’t even know when I saw him On mtv So weird. Not in a good way. So weird
Not sure about this... I remember seeing Vinnie and hanging out with Dana and Mark before the show, then after the show it was like Jekyll and Hyde with Mark, he became an obnoxious prick that was talking shit to those he hung out with before the show... Guess his weeve gave him balls after the show
They were always garbage, silly rabbit. Slaughter's voice has always been a mixed bag. An acquired taste. His vocals on the second VVI album were indeed very poor. Annoying to say the least. And they are nothing in comparison to the far better vocals of Rob Fleischmann (and also FAR better songs) from the legendary first VVI album...> To this day, Vinnie hates Slaughter's existence in VVI and that second album of radio friendly sellout tripe he was forced to write and put out to appease his record label/manager at the time. But funny, Slaughter's vocals at other points in time were better. Listen to his work on Xcursion (earliest band) or his work from '89 on in Slaughter. So for some reason, his voice just wasn't compatible with the VVI band and their material...> Or there's just more to the story that won't ever come out. Vinnie tried to find others besides Fleischman, he really did. That's why there is a full record of demos out there with guys like Goran Edman singing on them trying to desperately give Vinnie that voice he was always agonizing over...>
Although Robert Fleischman was a far superior vocalist,Mark was pretty good. Vinessa should've gotten Goran Edman in. Goran had already done amazing demo versions of the 1st lp. Mark had the perfect look, which was the commercial decision, and a good voice. Mark and Dana seemed to have done alright lol.
