Creative is perhaps most legendary for their tremendously terrible support. Ugreen is perhaps a familiar name for Amazon shoppers who look for things like USB cables, HDMI or DP cables, etc. I'm not surprised to see they made a tiny DAC ala Apple. It's remarkable that they can cram so much tech into such a tiny device. Chinese off the shelf SOCs have revolutionised a lot of products, and made them incredibly cheap to manufacture and sell.

They have revolutionised a lot of products. I was amazed by the quality of their Apple dac thingy. My default position was that anything tiny must by default suck. But that just wasn't the case. The same as this Ugreen!

I came across Ugreen several times on Aliexpress and their cables feel decent. Original Apple cables were always worse than flea market Chinese. Iphone 4 stock cable with softeners gone and the cheapo zylindric cable ends.

Hahaha flea market Chinese. Best way to describe it!

I just checked Taobao to see this adapter. It has a microphone and a remote control function. Maybe this is the latest version. The 'hifi' version is RMB 56, which is 7.3 euros, and the regular version is RMB 23, which is 3 euros.

Ugreen is a reliable choice for cables and such.

Well you've already saved me from wasting money on a SB Play 3, thanks. Are there any of these devices that test well at 96k/24 but all apart at 48k/16? Do you test audio inputs (ADC) on any of these (I realise this one doesn't have any)?
@AntonsHardware
@AntonsHardware Год назад
I do test at 48kHz and 16 bits. Overall these results are worse than the 96k results, so that's why I don't usually show them. I haven't tested the ADC, sadly. My opninion is that since they are only used for phone calls, (at least in this user scenario), the quality isn't really an issue. This one does have an ADC, but it isn't used! You cannot connect a mic to it, which is a major downside!

"Very silent" is very Creative way LOL remember what I tell you about sound channel swapping bug on their AE sound card series? Until this day they never release any driver that fixed it (which been years)

There is a model that advertise the mic function, it has the same KT0210 chipset and they actually advertise it in the page, but it's USB A not USB C, maybe they choose to not use the mic in the C but in A they did it because they advertise it for calls/chat in gaming. This model that I say is the "30757", but they had the tendency to change the whole model number just for the color or the medium, even if it changes TRRS to other. They had others but with Realtek chipset and they had a lot of hissing in my opinion. I just want better sound from my ps4 without hissing, and I thought going with Fossi (recently you uploaded a video about it) or the ol' classic creative, but they are more expensive than this, but making numbers if I'm going to expend in trying out different models on this prices I'm going to end up expending the same money from a iFi Zen air /UNO, creative play4 or X1, I would end up wasting money and time, I will try this, I think I have one of this with the KTmicro, or a Conexant chip.

Hello Anton - I have several computers I use since years and newer ones, and last weeks I was taking time to "upgrade" the sound of them with some soundcards I have laying arround. I noticed one thing, somehow your rightmark results are lower mostly on every card you tested, as in other reviews. How comes? Do you test all in same system, could that be the source for your lower results?
@AntonsHardware
@AntonsHardware Год назад
Hi Pedro. Great question. It's very hard to compare test results from one system to another, because there are so many variables. My system may suffer from more EMI, voltage fluctuations or other interference. I also always use a Creative G6 USB soundcard as the ADC, since onboard solutions doesn't give the best results. My guess is that this where the difference comes from. When testing a card with one end in the speaker output and one in the line in, the results will almost always be very, very good, since there is no internal interference. I've talked with several people on how to test best, but this is always a difficult question. Do you want to compare results, that you should always use the same ADC. Do you wan to test the whole card? Then use the onboard line in. What do you think? When testing a PCI card, I use an old Intel Core i5-4690K Boxed with Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H motherboard (and always the latest version of Windows available at the moment of recording). When testing PCI-E or USB cards I always use an Intel Core i5-8600K Boxed and a Gigabyte Z370M-D3H motherboard.

@@AntonsHardware Hy Anton - thank you for your reply. I see now that you had also noticed variations in the results and that you tested diffrent methods to mesure. As far I understood, when testing a card, just the card and not the chain, so I should use the line out/ in of the card it self. To test my chain, I could take the mesurements diffrent. -- "Do you want to compare results, that you should always use the same ADC" --> this makes sense for people like you who test many cards, that gives you a reference and good base for comparing the cards because you have a "stable baseline" - well I'll thank you for those informations who gave me more "understanding" about testing and some logic about it. Wish you a good time and thank you!! Saludos, Pedro

The his of meds sound overpronounced. Then you're hearing, just really good at them. Frequencies. Or you need to adjust your e. Q if you even have an EQ to adjust depending on the device.

Yes i understand now, apple is not only iphone because Ipad has type port, sorry by my myopia, you are right, is a dac in general for apple, have used the ugreen and it has many, many more durations than the original apple one with such a weak cable, there are other options from Kbear and a very good one in the form of a cube from Linsoul with excellent output but does not support call control, ugreen does, less musical but more versatile and very cheap, thanks for your review.

I use an application called Rightmark Audio analyzer. It isn't anything professional, but does give a good idea about the characteristics.

Thanks Antons. I am a audio noob but recently bought Sound Blaster ZXR which has 2 cards. I used the optical cable on daughter card with 5.1 audio receiver but seems not much different from my mother board. I noticed some equalisers do not work on optical so I managed to swap RBG(red+white) cable on main card into the receiver. Then it comes amazing sounds ever. Feel it is not just about equaliser effects I guess. You think It is different between optical and audio cable even on the same cards? (Main and daughter card hooked up with a cable like a card)
@bastonyx
@bastonyx Год назад
Optical Cable will send digital audio to your receiver, and use the DAC of your receiver. Anaolog Audio from your card is already converted from digital to analog from your soundcard. That should explain the diffrence you notice.

I saw some Club 3d Theatron Agrippa PCI sound cards. Can you test them? I read a rating stating the driver has many options and 5/5 stars. They support DTS NEO PC mode. And the white ESI Julia with swappable pcb for symmetric or unsymmetric analog outputs?
@AntonsHardware
@AntonsHardware Год назад
Already made that one :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-84flmWM2zVI.html I couldn't find the driver from Club3D themselves, but you still can use the vanilla drivers from C Media! www.cmedia.com.tw/support/download_center I would love to get my hands on the ESI Julia as well. But they are very rare and when I see one only it is very expensive.

No es muy agradable hablar todo el tiempo de un DAC para iphone y tener en pantalla un puerto C, es cierto que la siguiente generación lo usará, pero al momento de la revisión iphone equivale a lightning

Compared to most overpriced gaming headsets it's both cheaper and better to get a mic and headphones separately. Otherwise cable mics are great but only if they're cheap.
