I remember when all you used was a little duet interface and your computer. I was surprised because I couldn't imagine how you could be so good at making music and the label and everything and you hadn't discovered hardware synths yet. Now you've got an insane setup full of hardware. 😂

I absolutely love your poly Slim Phatty + noise + pan setup. I am sure it sounds absolutely sick! But talking about "cheap" four-voice full analog synths: Have you tried Elektron Analog Four? I think it is one of the best, raw/fat/distorted/noisy sounding modern analogs. Four voices (poly, unison or multi-timbral), two DCOs each plus two subs, two multimode ladder filters, noise, distortion, pan, full analog audio path, digital reverb + delay, six lane step sequencers with per-step-edits of nearly all parameters etc. - it's all you love in one box. Epic.

Guys let me ask a question, I'm not into music producing enough! Why would you use phisical synthesizer when you can generate these sounds using a plugin in a DAW?
@expelectrik
@expelectrik Год назад
Just to twist knobs or get a very specific type of sound, i own hardware and it's very much not necessary and a luxury but they are very fun to use imo
@mw7851
@mw7851 Год назад
@lizigyik although soft synths are pretty much there to replicate the exact sound, the analog versions sometimes can still provide a tiny bit better sound. But it's almost not noticable especially not when you listen to it in the context of a whole mix. But as the commenter above mentioned, it's a lot more hands-on and most people get into a much more productive workflow and get results a lot quicker. I also own a couple of hardware synths and I can tell you once you tried it out yourself you're hooked. It's magical what badass and beautiful sound come out of these machines. It's a similar feeling like the one you get when sitting in a sports car with an amazing growling engine. But yeah, you can absolutely create just as good music completely with soft synths, but so much in music is about getting into the right vibe to be creative and productive. And these machines can put you into the flow super fast.

Virtual instruments, or VIs, can suffer from the Nyquist theorem because the theorem states that a digital audio recording system must have a sample rate that is at least twice the highest frequency present in the analog signal it is recording. This means that if a virtual instrument generates signals with high frequencies, these frequencies may not be accurately captured if the sample rate of the digital audio recording system is not high enough. The Nyquist theorem can cause problems in virtual instruments because, in order to create the most realistic and accurate sound possible, virtual instruments often generate high frequency signals that are beyond the range of human hearing. These high frequency signals, however, must still be accurately captured in the digital recording in order to preserve the quality and realism of the sound. If the sample rate of the digital recording system is not high enough, these high frequency signals will be aliased, which means they will be distorted and will not sound as intended. To avoid this issue, it is important to use a digital audio recording system with a high enough sample rate to accurately capture the high frequency signals generated by virtual instruments. Additionally, it is important to use high quality converters to convert the digital audio signal to an analog signal for playback, as this can also affect the accuracy of the sound.

@@nodz007 really good point! Also the reason why many saturation and "analog vibe" plugins are not recommended. It's important that they provide an option for oversampling. Ideally 4x or even more.

Just a shame I don't like the sound of Moog synthesizers very much. I always get a lot of flack for that but I really don't (personal preference). These Moog's always sound unrefined even harsh to me. You call it "raw", but that is exactly not what I am looking for in an analogue synth. But thanks for showing how you can link these up, I believe there are other mono synths that allow you to do the same thing, including the Korg Minilogue XD module. They are 4 notes polyphonic each, so you can get 4, 8, 12 or 16 voices.

Really? I find its sound underwhelming, similar to other budget analog polysynths like Korg Minilogue or Dreadbox Nymphes. I'm lot more happy with softsynths like Subtractor.

the deepmind 12 sounds great but has a ridiculously tedious interface that's way too deep in many cases (too many presets, effects on small screens to navigate)

Can't believe you did this! I was thinking of doing it a few months back, but buying 6-8 slim phatty's for $800 each is getting close to a Moog One 8 which has so much more functionality, and it'd be more than the price of a Prophet, so I decided to stay happy with my Prophet and buy other things instead. Happy you did it though, there wasn't many good videos showing this and it sounds really great the way you have it set up in stereo!

Could you do a comparison of your actual Model D with the Softube, Arturia and other plugins like even Moog's own (believe this is an AUv3 plugin that you can download from the moog website) - possibly even UADs own moog emulation. Seems like there's so many quality emulations, but want to know which is best.
@Jonsine
@Jonsine Год назад
I've done it already but not as a video. if you compare oscillators they all sound the same but if you stack oscillators the original is a lot more unstable which gives it a fatter more brutal sound and once you feed the headphone out into the external in - the feedback ist just from another planet. really good phat and crazy. those are the main sonic differences
@producermathew
@producermathew Год назад
@@Jonsine have you explicitly tried the UAD Minimoog? This one was in partnership in mood and I’ve noticed this has the best sounding feedback and filters. But I’ve heard similar things before that the plugins tend to nail the oscillators, but often struggle with the summing of the oscillators and filters. And then the feedback is apparently the worst thing that is emulated. But sounds interesting that you had replicated the above! I know Universal Audio are the kings of digital signal processing, and by far my favourite sounding emulation (despite only ever playing with the subsequent 37)

You could do something like that on the old Oberheim 8 Voice (or 4 voice). But, of course, only 16 presets and no midi. GForce OB-E is a pretty good VST replica of it. Congrats with the new toy(s) and the top 10 position! And sorry about the modular! :D
