I really tried to pack in a lot of details with this video. I know it's long but hope it help you guys looking to upgrade your open guard game. The collar sleeve is one of the most versatile guards out there. I hit a lot of topics but ran out of time so I didn't get a chance to touch on the far side collar sleeve but the mechanics should be the same.

I like this new longer format. It's something Lachlan Giles does good in his instructionals IMO. Sometimes it's easier to learn several techniqes at once, since most positions are all about options and countermoves. The "if" - "then" aproach is awesome. Keep it up!

Great intro to collar sleeve guard! I was having a lot of issues with open guard in general as I didn't really know where to make contact with all four limbs, especially in a systematic way that could lead into other options. I took this into sparring at my gym, and it worked really well! The best part, in my opinion, is once you have the grips you can really lock the guard in, and make it hard for people to escape. It worked so well, and leads into other guards (Lasso/Spider, DLR, and Full X) that I like, that I'm inclined to make this my "default" guard simply because of the amount of control you have. Thanks for the great video! Going to make timestamps for future reference. Also, I think we should start calling this guard Cuff Collar or Collar Cuff Guard, mainly for the alliteration haha, but also because I found that the cuff grip, especially if you get the lasso in, is what leads to the collar grip, so the name Cuff Collar reflects more of the sequence of events (and it alliterates). 1:05 - Initial grips - Sleeve grip - Leg on sleeve grip side on opponents hip - Collar grip - Other leg on opponents shoulder/bicep area 5:00 - The most basic attack: Omoplata 8:57 - Tips on maintaining the collar sleeve guard - Repummel leg on bicep - Kick bicep leg back towards the mat to break grip on bicep leg 10:05 - Basic counter to collar sleeve guard, if they don't maintain the bicep leg 10:20 - The second attack: triangle choke - Can also transition to an arm bar in the triangle choke 14:15 - Countering the collar sleeve guard by placing elbow on knee, and how to approach this from bottom - Since you can't place the foot on the hip anymore, look for shallow lasso or transition to DLR guard 16:15 - Sweep from DLR 18:07 - Counters to DLR to be aware of 19:53 - Berimbolo when they post during the DLR sweep 24:48 - Funny laugh, game over bro 24:55 - How to grip fight in this position 27:55 - Cross sleeve guard Also, here's the link to Jon Thomas' Vice Guard: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kqIQcjvNjrs.html

White belt here. I've trained at two different Jitz gyms over the past 2.5 years, and (although they are both literally world-class gyms, run by extremely high-level competition champions) at neither have I even HEARD the "Collar Sleeve Guard" mentioned. Professor Danaher brought me here with what he calls the "CCB" guard. I've already pulled this guard on several strong training partners, and they can't pass it... now I just need some attacks from it. Thank you, Professor!

Are you generally able to get finishes with the omoplata from collar+sleeve or do you use it to get reactions/sweeps?
@AlecBaulding
@AlecBaulding 4 года назад
Depends on the opponent but the omoplata is a strong position so even if you can’t finish it. It will land you in a good situation

I struggle when my opponent tries to control my right leg ,and as a result the whole collar sleeve guard is hard to set up against those guys who just control my right leg.any tips for it?
@AlecBaulding
@AlecBaulding 3 года назад
I recently covered this topic but pretty much you need to keep repummeling the free leg while also maintain that tilting position on your training partner ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JvAfwdqbuiM.html

Whats happen if ur opponent remove your left leg on hip to a leg drag how to recovery?
@AlecBaulding
@AlecBaulding Год назад
Two things: your right leg should be controlling their left arms shoulder making it difficult to reach for the your leg on their hip and then second thing you can always transition back to a shallow lasso with the leg on their hip until they give up or transition in to a different guard
