I appreciate this information man. I knew I wasn't breathing correctly because I was taking in one big breath (even deep down into the abdomen area) but the breath wouldn't carry and would be shallow. Thinking, or imagining to slowly/gradually take in the breath is a great visualization!

Regarding your courses, offering an articulation part separate from the main course is a good idea. Perhaps the rest of the eight-week course could also be available in chunks? Additionally, I think it would help if the content of each lesson was explained in a couple of lines.
@ImproveYourVoice
@ImproveYourVoice 4 года назад
Actually the Advanced articulation is different! It’s more aimed at those who know the issue is specifically articulation. The articulation in the 8-week is different. Whilst I totally understand the mindset behind splitting the 8 week course up into chunks it doesn’t then promise the benefits which maintaining two months of a regimented plan does. And that’s the main thing. It is set up in a specific order to build ion the previous week! People might like bite sized options but I maintain that 8 weeks is the minimum effort for maximum results. For that reason I refuse to split it up. It just doesn’t work that way. Totally logical idea though I’m not knocking you and your tip to offer a sentence or two is very insightful and I will take steps to get that done ASAP. Thank you for your comments, it’s very useful. 🙏🙏💪💪😁😁😉

Hey Mr. McStay, As of late I’ve found myself without a vocal coach and have stumbled upon your videos. I appreciate all the work you do for this channel and loved this helpful video! I do have a question though. This isn’t exclusive to this experience and exercises, but I’ve noticed when I breathe in deeply my stomach often makes odd noises and I feel a bit of discomfort. Do you know if this something to be concerned about?
@ImproveYourVoice
@ImproveYourVoice 3 года назад
Maybe you're hungry? Dehydrated? Pushing too much into the belly and not instead trying to open the back more? Could these be reasons?

@@wistfuloptimist1238 make sure not to eat 1-2 hrs before vocal exercise. If you've ever eaten a big meal and then done some physical exercise you'll find that there is a build up in your stomach and also you may burp more. Its simple dont eat to close your practice time and you will be fine. If its another reason then I'm not too sure.

One question I have is: on the exhale exercise, it feels really ‘muscular’ and oddly kind of stressful to give that intense of a sustained exhale to keep the paper up - I think I get what it’s training, but at the same time I thought singing and speaking are supposed to be a very relaxing, almost sighing sensation…?
@ImproveYourVoice
@ImproveYourVoice 8 месяцев назад
I agree it is a little unnatural but remember It’s just an exercise. To do at certain times. If you are in the gym you don’t take the weights home and continue bicep curls. You just do what’s needed in the gym. Train at training times and then continue to breathe naturally when you’re done ✅

Bad assumption buddy. I used to hold my breath to eat, then gasp for air after I finished chewing my food. That continued into my early 20s. I didn't figure out breathing through my nose until my late teenage years. I forget to breath sometimes and find that I am holding my breath, much to my surprise. Did I avoid dying? Yes. Am I adept at breathing and do I have good control and understanding of how I should breath? No.

I hate it when people say that breathing into your diaphragm is breathing into your belly! It only confuses people when they're trying to genuinely figure out how to breath through the diaphragm (as opposed to chest breathing)! Diaphragmic breathing is neither chest breathing OR belly breathing, it's in the middle, underneath your rib cage. If people would simple do a Google search for where the organ is in the body they'd see that! Once you have a visual in your head of where it is physically located, it makes it SO much easier to conscientiously learn to breath from it! Planting a visual in people's heads of it being "belly breathing" only misleads and misguides people; it's like telling children that babies come from their mother's "tummies". It's ridiculous. Adults can just as easily visualize in their heads where the diaphragm is and how to breath through it as they can belly breathing; stop infantilizing intelligent adults! Coaches and teachers need to stop this nonsense!
@ImproveYourVoice
@ImproveYourVoice 3 года назад
You clearly didn’t pay a slight bit of attention to this video to have commented such a load of nonsense! Now watch it, listen and take note of how the purpose is precisely to stop people thinking about their diaphragm, stop breathing into their belly and consider a healthy visual, conducive of a free and effortless speaking mechanism!

@@ImproveYourVoice First off, don't be a snarky ass, I *did* watch the video and nothing I said was being critical of you specifically, or anything you actually said, so if you're having a bad day, find another coping mechamism instead of being a passive aggressive jerk to your subscribers/supporters and taking it out on them! Secondly if you'd read my comment accurately, you would've seen that I was actually AGREEING WITH YOU about how it's faulty that people are taught that breathing from one's belly was innacurate; it was an isolated point to a singular thing that you mentioned in the video, NOT the video as a whole. 😠

@@ImproveYourVoice Thank you for apologizing; I of course accept it. I actually like your videos and get very useful info from them, so I was pretty taken aback by that passive-agressive/snarky/kind of disrespectful response, when all I was doing was contributing to the conversation with my own personal perspectives on a point you were making, which I agreed with and was glad to hear a professional set the record straight on it, because I see others giving inaccurate instruction all the time; it's a pet-peeve of mine when I hear it. I don't know how else I could've worded my initial comment so that you didn't take it the wrong way/critically of you, but if that's how I came across, inadvertently, I too apologize, that's not a place I was coming from at all. 👍
