You should check out the actual soundtrack if you haven't already. Besides the violins that we hear clearly, there are some incredible soundscapes of a score hiding in many scenes. This movie was a huge pleasant surprise for me when I saw it, I knew nothing about it, but every detail is fantastically executed. Love this movie! particularly like how sudden and realistic the attacks feel. If you like a slow build and want "the ultimate dread-inducing experience" you should consider doing "Come And See" it's been dubbed the "scariest movie ever made" by many and was what inspired Steven Spielberg when making Saving Private Ryan to get that "realistic" feel he borrowed heavily from it and screened it to the cast of Schindler's list before filming too, it's often called the greatest war movie of all time. It does take over an hour to build but when it does finally hit it's crescendo of horror, it'll make Bone Tomahawk seem like a calm summer breeze. It's also a recreation of real events based on eye witness accounts so it's deeply sickening.

The sound design is amazing. Everything is so dry and crisp. The sounds of the bad guys 'howl' off in the distance is extremely chilling. IMO one of the best sound designs I've heard in a long time. I think Krampus, the 2015 movie, has a slightly better sound design but it's close. Kurt Russell also plays this so well. One of his better movies, he's not quite as good as he was in Death-Proof but that's just down to the directors. Tarantino will always get the best performance, and that's in no way a bad thing... I love that line he says, "what are you doing in my breakfast?".

You should see Mandy. I think it's considered a slowburn. Very psichedelic, brutal and Nicholas Cage performance is really wild.

Loved your review man! I had more or less the same reaction to it that you had. I really like this movie both the western and the horror. Will watch it again, just not right away.

S. Craig Zahler also wrote a movie called Asylum Blackout which shook me to my core... his movies really play on the fears of hopelessness and despair and that's what really gets to you.

As soon as I saw the name of the movie I'm like, "oh no, I think that one moment will break him."

S Craig Zahler is such a great film maker. Dragged Across Concrete is well worth checking out too.

So glad you reacted to this, I think it will be a future classic, for me it is already one of my favorite modern day westerns as is 'In A Valley Of Violence' with Ethan Hawke and John Travolta......
