They can but it's not good to go into keto acidosis over it. Durian is high in sugar and fat which is why it's not good for them. Diabetics once they have it have to depend on insulin the rest of their lives. So once they have diabetes they need to eat properly on a restricted diet and take insulin. And it's not quantity but quality I think you mean... unless your saying they can binge eat anything and everything they want in unlimited eating competitions and not exercise gaining hundreds of pounds. Even if they're on insulin in order to maintain health they need to lose weight exercise more and watch what they eat. If they eat durian they can eat it in moderation not in any quantity.

As a type 1 My endocrinologist says you eat and adjust accordingly.

In all honesty I'm a durian purist meaning I only eat durian fresh raw and I only eat it in Asia wherever it grows I don't even buy durian here even though you can buy it here and import it frozen but I don't eat it because it's already changed it's form and composition plus it's not native here. A lot of people prefer durian candy form and frozen as the smell is more tolerable and the taste is still good or better with more added sugars. Which is another reason it can be bad for diabetics. 1 in its natural form durian already has a high glycemic sugar content and causes the body system a lot of internal metabolic heat and dehydration eating durian. 2 people usually prefer personal preference to eat consume it more in processed form adding more sugars to the already high sugar fruit as in candy and desert form from ice cream to cake adding more refined sugar and processing its form. Therefore diabetics really shouldn't consume it because it raises sugar levels but if they choose to consume durian they should do so in moderation and not go on a binge on durian which could be really hard to do for those who truly love the taste of durian. and finally durian really should be consumed in its natural habitat in Asia to enjoy it at its best.
