Sounds really good, impressive how you can play that long. I love how you explained your thought process on the exercise and the ins and outs of how you use it, it made it easy to understand the concepts the exercise works on what I should be thinking about if I was to use this exercise for myself.
Oh wow I really appreciate it. looking back, I realized I could have provided more context, but I didn't want to bore people into explaining when I could just play it to show them. Let me know if you try it on Joy Spring. I do it on the major ii-V- I . You lead into the minor third of the minor chord, and then triad up to the root.
This is how I practice as well. I’m a pianist but I start by learning the head and the form. And be able to both comp and solo, and then challenge myself in the aspects that I feel like I’m lacking. I always enjoy watching what exercises other musicians do to spark ideas for my own exercises. I think it’s important to create or use exercises that target your specific goals. Back in the day I used to just do a bunch of random exercises and I didn’t have an intention with them. If I feel like I’m not comfortable in some of the changes, then I should do exercises targeting that specific issue. Etc.❤ 🎺
