Pro tip: long fuse dynamite is useful for detonating the gas in vault 22 cause you can throw it at the vent and it has enough fuse time to get to the elevator before the fire wave reaches you
Tin grenade is the only explosive that you can get consistently in Dead Money. That's big. As for dynamite bouncing, I suspect that's because of its weight is half that of grenades. Light objects are wonky with the NV physics engine.
Holy Frag Grenade - 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.' This definitely fits in the S tier, and it's my favorite wild wasteland perk easter egg in this game.
its basically your bread and butter once you get to lvl 8 i think and you get Mad Bomber. since all energy ammo can be converted from one type to another, you're realistically never going to run out. its not the best, but its also not bad at all
There's a mod that lets you shoot any explosive in the game from special versions of the grenade launchers, including the Grenade Machinegun. It's extremely excessive, but that's what the Mad Bomber lifestyle is about!
Dynamite is one I never really got used to because of it's weird bounce, so it kind of became a fight starter and vats tool for me. If you take the cowboy perk, they become comparable to the frag grenade in power though, which is cool!
Long-fuse dynamite is useful for long-range throws (like ~20m+) and for elevated positioning against enemies. Regular dynamite will blow up mid-flight if u try throwing it at those distances
I think VATS still works w/ regular dynamite for long distance, doesn't it? But long fuse is still useful for the niche purpose of doing the GRA challenge *'Crackerjack Timing'* for early-game 1000 XP. All the other weapons for that challenge requires the Mad Bomber perk, except Long Fuse Dynamite.
@breakdancepeach691 not sure about all that stuff ur talking about, but whenever ive manually tried to throw dynamite ~20m+ it always blows up mid-air unless it's long-fuse
@@Zpzane I'm saying that VATS is better for long-range throwing :P. In VATS, grenades/dynamite don't (usually) blow up in the air, making long-fuse dynamite kinda useless except for that one GRA challenge.
One thing about long fuse dynamite that I only realized now after a billion hours in new vegas is that you can throw a long fuse dynamite then switch to regular dynamite or a firearm, delaying when the enemies aggro and letting both explosives go off around the same time for more up-front damage
you can also drop explosives directly from your inventory and blow them up either by shooting them or using another explosive. That's my best use for the long fuse dynamite, mine buffing.
@@maestrofeli4259 In my gorrillion hours I somehow never considered dropping actual nades alongside mines (for the inevitable mine stacking in the lonesome road nuked areas) I usually just carry a silly amount of mines bc I forget to sell them
5:20 The "More Trait and Perks mod" gives you a perk that can grant you more of them. But queue back to the time l lost a level 12 (post-Zion) character on a permadeath run due to an unfortunate holy frag grenade throw... F tier for me.
The gas in Vault 22 has already been mentioned, but I suspect the other good use for the long fuse dynamite would be reverse pickpocketing. I've tried it with regular dynamite, frag grenades, and frag mines, and I always end up taking splash damage because I can't get away fast enough. I keep telling myself that I should try it with the long fuse variant to see if it gives me enough time to escape but I always end up forgetting to.
If I'm honest, standard dynamite was always my go to explosive throughout the game. It's so easy to acquire since you can just farm all the respawning powder ganger spots and stockpile it. With the heave ho perk and some careful setup, it's still very useful in my opinion. Or just use it to craft powder charges.
my first time trying to kill caesar, i was really underprepared. couldnt figure out how to do it, i knew i had to use all my explosives but they just kept chopping me to bits UNTIL I REMEMBERED... i had stealth boys. i blew up all the praetorian guard by putting grenades in their pockets with a stealth boy and a turbo. it was at this moment i realized, _i can do literally anything in this game_
Man, recently found your channel and I'm loving it. These tier videos are my favorites, this one in particular cause I'm doing a explosive/energy weapons run and it's pretty cool, melting and dismembering everything lol. Keep up the amazing work ❤
My favorite is the mfc grenade because you will never run out of them. Even if you are playing hardcore and not grabbing every ammo, you can immediately convert them into something useable for your build. On hardcore you should really be scrapping all the ammo you come across anyways for the weightless cartridges and powders. Thats a neat little workaround for not being able to lug around every bit of ammo you come across.
Shame, not picking up ammo even in hardcore mode is not allowed - man who just put about 50lbs of ammo into his novac house safe he is never going to use
I really thing you should be rating these on overall playthrough usefulness, instead of just stats, the holy hand grenades are very op, but you only get three of them. And some greandes are much more rare than others. I do personally think you should take that into consideration.
Another Pro Tip on Long Fuse Dynamite: This should be the preferred explosive you use when reverse-pickpocketing explosive with NPCs to kill them. If they do the same damage as dynamite, but take longer to explode, if you don't like that wait time, use it instead for something other than a fight.
In regards to fire bombs, they're absolute trash in an unmodded game. If you don't mind mods, "Firebombs explodes on Impact - Honest Hearts DLC" and "craftable fire bombs" both do exactly what they say on the tin. Both of the firebombs biggest issues are negated by both of these mods. They're still incredibly weak weapons but they're really easy to craft so it doesn't feel nearly as bad needing to waste so many of them on creatures and NPCs.
The problem with the holiest of hand grenades is the limit. I’d put them in B tier. If FNV had 3 boss enemies I would rank it higher but FNV has more big boss type enemies.
I could be wrong, but doesn't dynamite have the unique ability to be blown up on the ground with a gun? I know that's what most people us it for. Basically just an alternative to mines to set as traps.
Hey Ron. I just want to say that watching all of your previous new vegas tier videos made me want to do a new playthrough. I'm currently level 25 and I just finished Honest Hearts. If that sounds like I'm being slow, thats because I prefer to take my time with this masterpiece of an RPG, no matter how many times I've played it. And also I've downloaded a few quest and location mods that I've been meaning to get to for some time now.
The only theoretical use for long fuse bombs I can think of is using them like a pseudo mine. The timing to use them as such is pretty ridiculous though, and then it's just a discount frag mine at best.
I cant remember a playthrough where I didnt use dynamite to clear the road of ants near the mojave outpost 😅 Vats those bad boys and jts always very effective
The fire bomb is very good at VATS. In general, all explosives are good in VATS because they explode INSTANTLY in it and ALWAYS hit, regardless of perception But the main disadvantage of explosives is that they scatter objects and damage weapons and armor lying on the ground When I went through the whole game with ONLY explosives, I suffered a lot from it. It's very annoying when you throw dynamite into a room and then look for some necessary things among the scattered plates, forks and other junk
"You won't have many of these" Me who stockpiled nuka colas, salient green'd a ton of barrel fruit and agave, then took nuka chemist to manufacture nuka quartz for dozens of nuka nades 😎👌 💥🤯💥
Flash bang is BIG, F Tier there is a bug in the game , when your throw a flashbang under your feet it lowers all stats and fatigue forever basically if you used flash bangs u destroyed your character build and on pc you can fix it with a patch but console players take big L worst bug in the game imo
I find that I just don't use throwable weapons at all. If I'm using an explosive its for something I want dead, from a distance, and I can't out damage it in melee / I don't want to risk it. This leads me to only using the fat man and missile launcher from explosives.
my fav thing to do with thrown explosives? get "heave ho!" perk, light up a stick of dynamite and scream *GO ON!!!* while throwing it from 30meters away. trust me it can get pretty exciting as well stupid and fun!
on of my all time new vegas experiences was with the long fuse dynamite. i was playing a stealth/sniper build, and was sneaking up to a rather busy raider camp. far more then i felt comfortable sniping one by one so in my stealth i chucked the long fuse dynamite and got the best reaction what was exactly said may be a different *toss dynamite* Raiders: what the? *gets closer to the dynamite* Raiders: oh fuck *explodes* ..... me: well that was easy
Actually long fused dynamite is extremely useful because you can throw a bunch of them & they explode like clusters. It’s really good if you’re fighting against multiple enemies and they’re confined together.
There should’ve been an option to turn long fuse dynamite into regular dynamite (just cut the fuse down a bit), or be able to make a cluster that does way more damage.
I didnt have any explosive perks at all, but when i was roaming the mojave i got ambushed by powder gangers and they killed me with dynamite qnd my leggs were crippled lol
one problem I have with thrown explosives is that they can just suddenly not do damage, like I did damage to an enemy before and then the next one I threw suddenly not a whole not of damage compared to the previous one.
