URGENT! If you are making this recipe make sure to turn off the heat before you incorporate the flour! It is written in the written recipe but for some reason unmentioned in the video! If you do not do so your batter will turn out oily and impossible to work with! I hope everyone learns from this and I hope this helps!
I made these gingerbread cookies for a Christmas party and they were a big hit. Everyone loved them. Every batch that I made went by fast. I ran out of dough so I made another batch. I really recommend making this, you wont regret it. Trust me at first i had doubts but when it was all done it was worth it (:
We always did eat them after Christmas. As a children we didn't care, that the gingerbread was a little bit harder. We also didn't thrive for the most realistic decoration, but to put the must smarties, gummy bears etc. on it for later.
This is absolutely an perfect recipe. TFS. My daughter's friend buys gingerbread house kits from the store and they decorate them a couple days before Christmas. I will make kits for them using this recipe. Place the assembled houses in a box along with icing bags, with ingredients for the icing and all the candies and some cookies to decorate. I am totally pumped for Christmas.
In all reality the traditions that out grandparents have set for us to enjoy are so amazing and timeless! We should just take a while to admire the old and homey way out grandparents have taught us. We should treasure it and pass it on to our future generations. Our grandparents are so amazing! Take time with them! Time with the family is so precious!
I love this whole thing. The personal story is compelling- her gma was genius. I’ll never create my own but I can’t stop watching anyway. Genuinely this video is the only thing putting me in a holiday mood this year.
Hello, so I used this recipe for a gingerbread house contest, and I have learned some things that were not mentioned in the video. Now most of this could just be due to my lack of baking experience, but I found the best method when rolling and cutting the gingerbread is to let it harder after making it, and then microwaving it until it is very, very soft, but still not burning hot. Then after rolling it out, you place your template on the gingerbread, and use the knife to cut it out WITHOUT a ruler. Then when you are finished leave the dough to harden and then use a spatula to pick it up and place it on the baking sheet. As a beginner, this is just what I found best. Also great video, I hope to see another like this soon! 😊
This is such a beautiful labor of love and way to remember your favorite memories with your grandmother. It makes my heart so happy. What a great way to remember her! 💕😍
I would of anything for my grandma, I love how your keeping your grandma's spirit alive! Your so lucky you get to make these wonderful things, don't forget how grateful you are cause some people like me can't endure this experience.
Thank You Claire and the rest of the team for sharing this wonderful recipe! I meant to send a "Thank You" last year but with everything it got pushed back. When someone shares their recipe memories with others, it makes following the recipe so much more. Thanks for sharing your grandmothers recipe and for sharing it with the world! Great recipe and we use this now! I just wanted to let you know how much we cared about the wonderful history of the recipe. Thanks again!
Your grandma was awesome!! After being extremely let down with a kit from the store and being discouraged with an almost 24 hr Ginger bread house recipe we were about to give up. Then I found this recipe. And we made the coolest ginger bread house ever! With jolly rancher windows and all. Thank you for sharing your recipe, you made our holiday and I'm sure many more to come.
Something about watching people cook or bake is very satisfying. And it's cool she's using a family recipe. My mom often uses family recipes too. Good to carry on family traditions.
Wonderful video! However, the video skips how much granulated sugar for the house! I looked it up and it's 1 cup. The cookie recipe is delicious, but again, they forgot to mention what temp and how long to cook them and the cookie recipe isn't included in the website. We had to guess and I think we did 12 minutes on 350. Of course, it does make a difference how large the cookies are. They don't spread much either so pat them down if you are doing a cookie ball instead of cut outs. We rolled ours in powdered sugar, but cinnamon sugar would be yummy too. Edit* We froze half the dough and made up the rest yesterday using cookie cutters and they held their shape wonderfully!! They are lightly sweet and soft to bite into!! Perfect for frosting.
Oh I just love the grandma type write or hand written recipe cards. This does give me nostalgia tho my grandma never did gingerbread, I'd help her make a TON of Xmas cookie evey year. Like she'd fill those giant metal tins that usually have popcorn to the top w Xmas cookies
My family and I made this last year and it was PERFECT!! Jolly Rancher windows and all. Seriously, it was incredibly sturdy aaaand definitely edible. We demolished and devoured that house after we marveled over it for two weeks. I’m here to make it again. So excited.
its so cute to see all of the familiar faces from the other tasty videos, and i think its so cute that they did it together, and it goes to show that its more of just a job and that its like a family for them.
Great tip about leaving the doors and windows in while it bakes. I'm known in my family and friends circle as the Gingerbread Queen. I make about 500 every Christmas ( although I dialed it back to 300 this year) and give 90% away as gifts. I guess they are good because when I give them out, people act like I'm handing them gold bullion or something. Anyway...I'm clicking on Subscribe to your channel- You are a FABULOUS TEACHER. I love the way you describe what your doing and why, and all the excellent tips that come from LOTS of experience. Thanks.
I have been trying to find the template that they were talking about in the video so I can try making one, but I followed the link they gave and I can't find it anywhere? I was wondering if you knew where it might be. :(
oh i would just start sobbing if i ever got ahold of my grandmas old cook book, bc both of my grandparents cooked growing up, and ive never been able to figure out the ingredients they used to make their dishes taste so unique and comforting to me. im so happy you got yours
The grocery bag is an awesome tip! I have been making gingerbread houses with grandkids for over 10 years and this is the best tip! I will pass this tip to them. Make another a Christmas memory with them.
Oh my goodness, you are truly adorable. I enjoyed listening to your story especially about your grandma. My eyes teared up since I can relate with my grandchildren. Thank you for sharing your recipes including the bonus one's. May you have a beautiful Christmas holiday. Thank you for warming my with your story.
Thank you so very much for sharing your story about your Grandmother, it was so sweet. I’m a Grandma now (Nana) and l made my first Gingerbread House with my 4 year old Grandson last year. We had a wonderful time and he thought l was a “Magic Nana”. I can’t wait until we do again this year... I’ll be including my sweet little Granddaughter this year, she’s only two so she’ll be in charge of licking the bowls.
I always love these videos when she does them, but specifically this time with all the extra mess, something about it just made it feel so much more home-y 💕 lol Seeing the messy counter tops reminded me of me and my grandma
I did buy a ginger bread house cake mold and baked a ginger bread cake from scratch & the kids were able to decorate & eat it too. It was fun & delicious! This was a wonderful nostalgic video, going to give this a try, I LOVE the stained glass windows!!! So grateful you shared!!! Warm hugs!!!
Narwhalblast 99 totally agreed I particularly loved watching this video because of how nostalgic it was! Check out my gingerbread house video! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LSkiXrcn8Q8.html
Thank you for this recipe. We did it and it came out awesome!!! The left over pieces of dough I microwaved it and was able to stretch it again and cut out gingerbread people :-) Very FUN project. TY
