I went with a mate to driving range yesterday I haven’t played golf in many years I hit with his driver about 165 to 185 yards but was bending so much to the right I swapped to his 5 iron and was hitting nice straight shots but only 125-135 yards so I preferred losing distance for accuracy personally but I’d like to hit longer and straighter obviously if I decide to take up the sport and buy a few cheap clubs just to start me off so hopefully videos help :)

Excellent video as always. I will use the alignment sticks the next time I practice driving. Your point about keeping it simple is one I’ll use, we all try and smash the driver as hard as we can. Your point about working on technique is one I’ll use because if the basics are not right forget about practicing.

Great advice Dave 👍 I've given this advice to many but they just can't commit on the course, alright in a driving range atmosphere but once that left to right wind hits them on the 1st tee they automatically aim left again, perhaps I could tell them about tucking the right elbow in next time 👍

Dave, you make it sound so easy to do. But...I've taken to keeping the driver in the bag and using a four-iron on the tee. I don't hit the ball 200+ yards but it usually goes straight and in the middle of the fairway.

One lesson I would like to see that is rarely talked about, is the pull to the left whethere it be with a driver or even a wedge. I can hit a nice little draw but it goes to the left. Some days it just won't go away. Ouch!

J C yes he says to himself before each shot to keep his hands down but every time you see him raise his hands out of habit. He needs to watch his own videos and he’ll soon see for himself. I’m sure Joe or Liam would see this when they’re editing. Mind you it’s easier said than done when it’s been a long term habit.

The reason you slice is because you throw at the top and come out to in with an open clubface. The easiest way to fix this is to strengthen the grip so the clubface is square to the out to in swingpath. That will of course cause you to hit it straight left. After a few straight pulls left on the range, aim RIGHT. That will square up your swingpath and with the improved grip square up ball flight. Yes, you are still hitting a pull but because you aim right, the pull goes straight. The beaty of this, is you make just 2 changes at set up...1. aim right...2. Tweak the grip. Then let the swing go where it wants to go...straight.

@mixter7x7
@mixter7x7 2 года назад
There are 2 very basic and simple reasons you hit a slice. 1 - Your club face is open at impact. Swinging too hard - hands in front of club shaft are the primary causes. You must close the club face or you’ll slice every time. 2- ball position in your swing. If your ball is too far forward in your swing - your club is crossing the ball at impact from outside - to - inside creating right spin for right handers. You must position the ball where your club is not advancing or retreating across the face in your swing radius.
@sloth8122
@sloth8122 4 года назад
You make it look to easy Dave. I’ll give it a go 2pm today, hopefully the slice doesn’t kick in while I’m aiming straight (fore right)😡

Do those who hit this , yay! But I pull my trail leg and foot back, hit from hi in to hi out, have the face as square as possible...and hit a huge banana slice! Would certainly like to hit straight, but am sure it’s it’s not going to happen!

You say off your toe...but when you are done fidgeting around getting set...the ball is actually just inside your foot...more aligned with the heel than the toe. Of course the camera was at a different angle when you actually hit the shot. So which is it?

I finally cured my slice and it was a combo of things that allow me to hit long straight drives. I move my right foot back. I play the ball back. And I play the ball further from me so I have to lean to it. As well, I move my right hand clockwise on the grip. It works!

@DASH1ful
@DASH1ful 3 года назад
the method that you are teaching is the same method that tommy armour taught in his book, back in the fifties. you may find, with modern day equipment, that it will work better if you tee the ball up high, address the ball with the club directly behind the ball- instead of grounding it- and with your left eye directly over the ball- and the left side of your head more in line with the ball. and, then, allow yourself to hit the ball with a descending blow. i don't say a player should hit down on the ball; but the later a player is, on the ball, the more they will need to apply force to the left side of the shaft with their left hand- the application of force to the right the side of the shaft, with the left hand, will then become automatic- and, the more a player can do this the more they will be able to release thru with their right hand.
@lesleywillis6177
@lesleywillis6177 3 года назад
I’m sorry but the first problem is leaving the club face wide open, leading to a high right slice. This leads to aiming evermore left and coming over the top. Sorting alignment and club direction will do nothing until the first problem is addressed.
@joeperez3520
@joeperez3520 4 года назад
Brilliant, Dave. My instructor had me doing this same headcover drill the last time I saw him a few weeks ago. He even had me take my address position, then took an alignment stick and placed it on TOP of my trail elbow, and UNDERNEATH the lead elbow, to get me feeling what it should feel like having that right elbow lower than the left.
@geoopa
@geoopa 2 года назад
I have to strongly disagree, Aiming left if you are a consistent slicer does not mean you will slice further right! Why would you say that. Absolute bullshit.
