In this video, I'll be showing the process that I use to undercoat a vehicle. If you happen to live in a region with harsh winters and salty roads it is absolutely crucial that you get your vehicles undercoated to protect them from rust and corrosion.
Why you shouldn't use rubberized undercoating (Ziebart) - • Rubberized Undercoatin...
Big thanks to Eric O. over at the South Main Auto channel for making such a great video on why you shouldn't use rubberized undercoating on your vehicle. ‪@SouthMainAuto‬

I used rust check coat and protect with similar wands. Have a 360 tip on a 42” hose. Good for entire inner of boxed frame where access holes are limited towards the rear. The inner rocker panels are hard to access behind the now plastic outer rockers. I was able to get 90 degree wand in seem and fog this area that’s prone to rust. Good work

I just bought a new vehicle yesterday and I'm planning on doing the whole vehicle in fluid film before I drive it anywhere. I don't have a lift so I'll be doing it via jack stands. I bought 2 gallons of Fluid Film Black, the WoolWax pro series spray gun kit with all attachments, plastic to put on the floor, tape and plastic to cover thew sides, tyvek suit to protect me... I'm not looking forward to this. I also bought the best ceramic coat I could get my hands on for the outside. This thing better last me forever!

@@northerntoyota7584 …. I haven’t noticed any difference between the two… i have it sprayed every fall (Octoberish) and it continues to build up, thicker and thicker with every application. I used to own a 2006 Tacoma and it was completely wasted rotted out underneath. (I never had it sprayed) I had no idea there was a problem until my mechanic showed me. For me at the time Toyota had a recall for that mess and i had it fixed for free…. Still traded it in for my Tundra, i’m not going through that again.

I had my 2013 Accord done with Krown the first year (because they drill holes) and Fluid Film every year since. The only issues I’ve had is the car is very messy to work on and the trunk lid drains got plugged from so much undercoating and trunk lid was holding water. Other than that I’ve seen vehicles newer than mine needing rocker panels and other body work where mine just shows a little rust along the rear dog legs. Great stuff!

What's your take on the metal in the fender wells that hides behind factory sound proofing material? It is removable, but not easily. Do you spray in behind this or just let it be? Worried the fabric will become saturated and fail.
@bradsbuilds
@bradsbuilds 10 месяцев назад
I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to. The sound deadening material that I'm familiar with inside of fender wells is usually a fabric pillow that is just held in with friction. I've also seen plastic wrapped foam material that seals the fender to door gap internally. Either way, both can be moved out of the way if necessary when removing fender liners. The fluid film shouldn't bother them. I know I certainly haven't worked on every car out there so I may have never witnessed exactly what you're dealing with, but I hope my response helps regardless. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

@@jon8625 thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Lower engine and oil pan should be just fine to spray, but will get quite warm. Very possible to burn off like the exhaust. Hello Brad, I'm buying a new 2023 Kia Rio and I live in the salt belt, (Michigan), and I'm wondering what I should do since the car is straight out of the factory. Should I do multiple coatings, black paint, clear coatings underneath the car since the car is brand new? Or should I just stick with fluid film. I want to reapply it every year or so to ensure it doesn't rust, just don't know what I should do for a new car.
@bradsbuilds
@bradsbuilds 10 месяцев назад
Hi! I'm my experience, being as thorough as you can with fluid film or other types of oil based undercoating is your best bet. Taking your time and being thorough will make a big difference over just generally spraying the underside. Relatively inexpensive FF sprayguns can be purchased online. If you don't have access to a compressor, you can get a case of aerosol cans and purchase wand extensions for the tips to reach into the cavities. Depending on how harsh your winters are, you could always reapply after 6 months instead of a year. Be sure to be as thorough with the body cavities (quarter panels, fenders, rockers, door bottoms, etc.) as you are with the underside. Thank you for watching!

@bradsbuilds
@bradsbuilds 9 месяцев назад
Nope I didn't warm it up, it was at room temperature. I think it has to do with the type of gun I'm spraying it out of. If your sprayer has an adjustable fan and fluid setting I'd play with it to see if you could get it to atomize better. Thanks for watching!

Nice work man!! What is your recommendation of a car that is older like 10-15 years and already started to rust? I live in Sweden and over here they throw salt on the roads to keep the roads icefree. Finaly most cars gives up because of all the rust 😔
@bradsbuilds
@bradsbuilds 11 месяцев назад
Thank you! This procedure is universal for any vehicle! As long as you can encapsulate the metal/existing rust you can stop the corrosion from starting/getting worse. Just make sure you remove any flaking rust/debris before application. Do you see lots of Volvo's out in your neck of the woods? 🇸🇪 Thank you for watching!

Okej thanks, i will try to undercoat my cars as soon as possible. I have a Mazda 6 (2014) and a Nissan x-Trail (Rogue) (2008) They are getting older but still not too much rust, just on surface. Yes here you can se Volvos everywhere. Its like the most popular car and its used by the police and as ambulance to. The v70 and xc70 (cross country) can be seen everywhere. Sadly they are discontinued right now. Think Volvo stopped the making of pure petrol and diesels. Its all hybrid and electric now....

Does this stuff get all over your hands if you need to work on something or collect more gunk on gravel roads since it’s always wet?
@bradsbuilds

Yes it can be messy. The dust and silt from the roads will stick to it and create a film on the outside. In my opinion, dealing with the fluid film residue is much better than dealing with broken bolts and flaking rust. Thank you for watching!

Fluid Film can be thinned by mixing in a very small amount of vegetable oil. I do that when it's really cold, to make the Fluid Film a little easier to spray. I haven't noticed that thinning it makes it last any less time on the undercarriage, either. Thinned or not, it lasts a winter, for me.

I bought the Fluid Film spray kit with two plastic hoses that attach to the sprayer. The sprayer is great. Not so much the hose attachments. The hoses are made of thick stiff plastic and will not flex well enough to do inside frames, doors, hoods. When you bend the hose it collapses and blocks the flow. I found it really a useless, messy, waste of time. It is really disappointing that they make a wonderful product and screw you with a substandard applicator.

Gotta lighten up and less dry. By the way... Like the truck very much. Glad you are coating it with protection. You do not nescessarily need to "clean" the underbody. I'm not sure why you guys say that? The first thing you want to do it find a dusty road to drive down after application! Dust/dirt help the product stay on the vehicle...even when sprayed over dirt! Water is your worst enime when prepping for a Lanolin / NHOU oil.
