This is what I love about RU-vid. I'm watching a person on the other side of the world talk passionately about something that could not be more common here in Sweden. In my ignorance, I thought everyone (at least in the western world) used "Wettex" cloth. But it seems not to a made it to North America until recently, even though NASA used it one space flight long ago. Since the1960s the Wettex cloth has been sold in 50-ish countries. Great video! 👍 Greetings from Sweden. 🙂

Today I learned that these dishcloths that I have used all my life is a Swedish invention and is not common in the US. I’m 56 years old and had no idea about this. They cost between 2 and 4 dollars for a 10-pack here in Sweden. When used to soak up something or just wipe a table you always wet it first and then squeeze it so it’s a bit moist. Then rinse and hang it to dry. If it starts to get smelly wash it or throw it away and pick a new one. We change to a new every week and put the old in the compost.

Wow! That is much more affordable than here in Canada. They are so useful, if I ever go to Sweden, I will be leaving lots of room in my suitcase to bring more back 😃

Your info on Swedish prices are correct. The Wettex original and the major supermarket brands typically cost around 30-50 cent a piece when bought in a big pack. I’m sure there are cheaper ones though.

To make the towel soak up faster, you need to wet it first and then twist/squeeze the water out. I guess you must do that when soaking up bacon fat. Use different colours for clean and for less clean, to keep them apart.

I bought a 5 pack 2 years ago and still haven't thrown away a single one. One thing I will say about using them in place of paper towel to soak water - I noticed that if you wet them like a cloth and squeeze out the water totally they are more absorbent than when totally dry, they seem to be hydrophobic when totally dry when they're a little wet they absorb more water, as unlikely as that sounds.

I am so confused about these not being used everywhere. I am from Sweden and I have used them all my life. I use them mostly in the kitchen for cleaning and drying the counters and the stove. But I also have one for cleaning the toilet, one for the bathroom sink and mirror and one for cleaning the shower. In Sweden we use it for everything and they are everywhere: in everyone's homes, in school, cafés, restaurants, at the office, in church, everywhere. I have never thought of any alternative, and I am astounded that you use regular paper towels for the kitchen. That feels like more work. Just as you I only use paper towels for bacon, and sometimes instead of napkins. Thank you for a great and informative video!

They are a new "fad" here, but I hope they take on quickly because paper towel is very wasteful! You are lucky to have them in generous supply over there. Thanks so much for watching the video 😃

Thank you for talking about bacon grease. I've been wondering and have hesitated to use mine to wipe out my cast iron skillet after cooking something greasy. I think your review and the comments from Swedish people have helped to answer some of my questions! ;-)

Glad you enjoyed! In some situations we do use the paper towels for the grease, but we try to avoid it by letting the fat cool and thicken in the pan, then scooping it into the bin with a spatula. Makes doing dishes a bit easier and much less greasy!

@@Leanntelope Good idea! And good to know that you do use paper towels sometimes!

I would refrain from using these to soak up bacon grease, because when you wash them the grease gets into your pipes where it can solidify and wreak havoc on your plumbing. Same reason you wouldn't pour grease down your kitchen sink drain.

Never wipe up milk spills with these, if must throw them in the dishwasher. If u don't your hands will smell like spoiled milk every time you use them! Also, look for the Wettex brand! We get a 3-4 pack for like 2 bucks here in Sweden.

Depends how you wash them and how much you use them, a family of four would’ve spend more in paper towels specially with small children.

Microfiber cloths for dusting and windows. Always dry dust. Moisture dusting is useless and makes it harder. Another solution for your outside windows is one of those sponge squeegee combo tools. So much easier. Thanks for the video on what all the cloths can do.

Unfortunately, microfiber cloths are not eco friendly (plastic fibers!)

Microfiber and sponges are definitely not eco friendly specially if you have any idea as to how microfiber is made. Also neither one lasts as long nor absorb water as these Swedish dish cloths.
