Thank you for asking, I’ve learned soo much from your videos! I’m in the process of selecting a mirrorless camera to purchase and having a difficult time deciding. I love both video and photos. Maybe a video on “camera recommendations for underwater going into 2020”. I’m not sure if the Lumix GH5 is a good camera at this time since it was released nearly 3 years ago. S1 looks good but no food lenses. Sony A7 III and A7 RIV look great for photo but no 60p at 4K. Soooooo confused and want to get the best possible camera since housings are very expensive. Which camera would you recommend?

I agree with most of what you say especially the multicolor lights and battery consideration. A small remark Lumens are not a measure of light intensity but just luminous flux which is the light emitted but not the intensity perceived. the SI measure for intensity is the candela and the same light of 10000 lumens gives different intensity in candelas depending on the beam angle. Many LED arrays now have 150 degrees coverage however even with 10000 lumens the intensity you get on the same area of a 120 10000 lumens light is 30% less and even 120 degrees is more than you need to cover a 16:9 aspect ratio in fact 90 degrees works fine for most users

Greate documentation. Also very open for the different filmmakers focus. Only one point is missing. Frequence. All LED lights are powered by frequence. Some of the cheap one are working with low frequence and this will create runing sysnc lines thrue the scene. But again. I like to look to your video cause of the really good information. Thanks.

Can you explain the process for how you go about trimming your gear and figuring out the weights/floats you need? Do you just buy floats and weights and then guess and check each time you dive, and then adjust each time from there? I'm new to underwater photographyh/videography and am looking to buy my first video lights. I'd like to buy the most versatile type of lights possible, in terms of being able to shoot both long range and close range. While I know there will never be a one-size fits all, I'm just wondering whether it would be best to get a wide angle or narrow angle, or something in between to shoot as large a range as possible? My guess would be a wide angle as this would cover a larger area further away, but still be able to sufficiently close up shots? In any case, I'm wondering what the best all rounder angle would be for the most versatility? Thanks so much for the videos - they're super helpful!

I have a pair of those cheap dive lights from Aliexpress with 20k lumens each for under 100 bucks... They're a beast! My dive mates always complain when they're looking at me with those on it's like looking directly at the sun lol... It's been 3 years and thankfully they're still working just fine.. The only hassle is they operate on 4 li-on batteries each and they take forever to charge (like 7 hours ish for the 3400mAh ones). And I use 2 lights for videos so on each dive trips I had to pack 16 batteries and 2 chargers... An air travel nightmare 😅

Great video as usual! I was wondering if you’ve heard any opinions on SUPE lights? From feedback I’ve got, they’re a great cheaper option for high power output. Also, the only cyan filters I’ve seen are for flat ports, not domes. Maybe I’ve just not noticed them around, but the soft edges you mentioned that come with domed lights, would you say that’s only relevant to night time filming where the edges are much more apparent? Surely you won’t really need soft edges if you’re shooting mid day with a red filter and cyan light filters as the light should blend in fairly nicely, have you noticed any hard edges during daytime shooting? Or are the domes only really useful for night time? Thanks again and keep up the great videos! From one previous oceans below kid to the other ;)

IMO if you are cave diving, video lights should be in addition to your normal light requirements. Video lights aren't really suitable for light signals and rarely have the run times needed to anything but the shortest cave dive. As such you should still have your primary readily available long with the a minimum of two back ups.

no special reason :) if you have 2 and need more power you could buy 2 really powerful ones or another 2.

@@ReefPatrol Also, 4 lights provide better area coverage and help eliminate or at least limit shadows?

@@DamianBaranPL for sure, but the main reason would be power :)

10.000 lumens + 10. 000 lumens = 20.000 lumens ??? Is it true?

my understanding, no. two lights give you broader coverage is all, not deeper coverage. brighter lights penetrate more water depth at a similar beam angle. so two wide beam angle 10k lights will cover more area in circumference than one wide beam angle 20K light, but a 20K light will provide more light depth penetration, the distance the light reaches ahead of itself, than 10K. this is how it was explained to me. the reason to go brighter is to get more depth, which is very hard to do, hence the added cost. two lights provide wider coverage for a more even light fill than one light can. if anyone believes this is wrong please feel free to correct it

if you have 2 lights together on either side, so 4 lights, then yes you can add it. if you use them one on either side, it is like Zoubus sais... wider coverage.

I arrived here by googling for how to DIY a cheap rig using generic underwater torches.....The answer is "Don't".

Surely there must be a compromise regarding the power of video lights. The more powerful the lights, the more you are going to scare away the fish and other marine creatures. And worse still, the more likely you are to damage the eyes of the creatures, as their eyes are often extremely sensitive to light compared to humans because of their living environment. Even a 1200 lumens light shone at 2 metres away at another diver is likely to provoke an antisocial response!!!!!!
