I was at that game against the Archie Manning and the Oilers. I had field level seats at the 20 yard line with the Giants trailing 13-7 and kicking off about halfway through the 4th quarter to the Oilers in my end of the field. I watched LT sack Manning on 3 consecutive plays. After the first two sacks Giants Stadium was rocking, but my dad, a very stoic fan was just clapping, very composed. I was going completely nuts high fiving everyone around me. But when LT sacked Manning the 3rd time, even my dear old father joined the rest of us crazed Giants fans. He was jumping up and down, high fiving people. Something he never did before or since. The Giants won that game, too, 14-13. That's how great a talent LT was. He simply had no peer in the game of football. Teams designed their offensive schemes based on where LT was. You couldn't run away from him because he pursued so well. You couldn't run at him. You couldn't block him on the pass rush. One time, against the Eagles, QB Ron Jaworski was interviewed after the game which the Giants won and Taylor had been in his face all afternoon. Jaworski said, "I knew I was in trouble when I looked across the line of scrimmage and LT was smiling at me." Lawrence Taylor was my favorite football player of all time.
Thank you for posting this. Best Defensive Player of All Time for me. LT's combination of strength, speed and instinct is unmatched. He pushed offensive linemen around like no other. He was the best outside rusher, so dominant Redskins created the single back double tight end just to block him. He was fast - his speed is soooo underrated. He could play pass coverage, intercept and take it to the house. His motor never stopped - his appetite for the game - his will to win. LT won NFL MVP - only 2nd Defensive player to do this and unlike Page, who won before, LT's dominance was season after season. Guy is only one of 10 players to ever win Regular Season MVP & Superbowl MVP - as a defensive player. Privileged to grow up watching him play. There have been many great defensive players but only 1 LT - who did it while partying. As good as he is people need to stop saying Parsons is new LT. Only 1 LT.
At 12:05 LT intercepts Montana's pass and is on his way to the end zone. You can see that Jerry Rice (as fast as he is) wants no part of chasing or tackling him and just pulls up.
The GOAT as far as I'm concerned a truly inspirational and influential player at his position. Naturally gifted he made the game look easy and put his body on the line. A true superstar which we may never see again. 👍❤🙏🤣
I saw a story about Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White as possible teammates it would have been the equivalent of Jesus Christ and Lucifer together if one didn't get to the QB the other would have.
Numbers you wanted to know where they were on the field: 56 Taylor, 42 Lott, 50 Singletary and 92 White. You wanted to and needed to know where these dudes were at on the field. There are others but these are the biggest ones.
My most incredible LT story is this 1990 after a whole lifetime of incredible performances in Dallas halfway thru the 3 quarter Cowboys have the ball on their 17 yard line 1 down LT sacks Ackman for 7 yards ball on the 10. 2 down LT tackles Walker lost of 2 yards.3 down Ackman back to pass LT bats the ball as Troy throws ball goes up LT catches it and runs into the end zone Giants touchdown one man took apart the Cowboys offense
To this day I still think he is the greatest linebacker to ever play the game he scared most quarterbacks from holding the ball to long before he crushed them.
There were many, many, many moments in this video when you could see the literal fear in the eyes of the player that attracted LT's attention. Appeared like the bogeyman, hit like a freight train, and came back for more.
You know how a lot of sports has a lot of good players at their position and it's hard to really decide who you can say is the best or ever done it at that position but this man played a couple positions and he's the best to do it ever at any of them they will never be anybody's ever do it like him never like anybody that tries to say otherwise no you're bugging you guys just got used to some BS that man will never have anybody come across and maybe when we gone you couldn't teach that that was born that was given to me Michael Jordan gift he was the Michael Jordan man for real he was a Kobe Bryant he's the tiger woods he had that and born in him you can't teach that and a lot of people having them but they don't know how to use their brain to let it out the right way and I believe there's other players in the league that are nice but sometimes coaches don't let him go to their full potential whatever it may be I don't know but ain't nobody messing with LT man but people just need to fall back stop that talk about other positions that he didn't play and they can be the best but as long as he played those positions ain't nobody touching him not no way I don't care who's been in the game I don't care who like who else do you get hyped watching play who else you get hyped watch and play like LT I get hype watching play Michael Jordan I get high
Taylor changed the game of football. There are not many players who you can say have done that. He was an unstoppable force when he was on top of his game. No one could block him.
Imagine if he didn't party, went to sleep early on Saturday nights and kept in shape throughout the season? Getting shivers just thinking about it ....
legend has it LT played a young MJ (probably summer of 1981) in basketball at a North Carolina pick up game featuring the 2 greatest athletes i have seen... fax!!!
