The Ultimate Mercedes SLK - MG Cyberster Review 

I live in Europe. It's certainly not flooded with Chinese cars, European/Japanese and Korean cars are still dominating, especially Hyundai and Kia. It's true you see chinese cars now when just 5 years ago, it's impossible to even spot one.

@@hurbrowns5397 EU is forcing vast trade protection on local EV market. It unbelievable that residents have to pay double the price for EVs, sending half the money to the custom. EU has done a great job on stopping EV importation, while let local residents pay more and get less.

The Miata weighs 2400lbs. This weighs 4376lbs. And before it’s said, power does not ‘make up’ for weight. In 0-60? Sure. In braking performance, suspension, dyynamics, and fun? No. And as a plus, Miata has nice, ergonomic butons and knobs with an optional manual. Even if we imagine a smaller version of a Cyberster, MG doesn’t seem to have its priorities straight when it comes to designing lightweight sports cars. Mazda has nothing to worry about.

@@linsunming We're already there. See the Caterham Project V. Lightweight, EV sports car with a mostly analog interior. I'm talking specifically about other manufacturers (MG in this case) who don't know how to design a sports car. No amount of advancement in technology is going to correct a flawed design philosophy.

@@linsunming Battery weight hasn't changed since the Tesla Roadster. Unless you have some magical replacement for LFP/L-ion, which is the best we can do in density, you won't see a change there.

​@@WhatisaLee Caterham are not in the same Universe as SAIC who work with VW and other major manufacturers. SAIC are just on the verge of solid state batteries. 2 years ahead of EU. MG never claimed it was going to be an out and out sports car. Numerous track videos show its a capable car despite weight

The design team is based out of the UK and comprises of many European experts in many facets. Such as the suspension being created from a former formula 2 engineer. The team leader also a well credentialed European gentleman. The Chinese component aside from quality build potential from parent SAIC and likely contributes heavily on the tech side. The platform is roughly based on the well received MG4. I think the overall effort seems to have put together a car that looks to be a great result.

I'm watching a lot of videos about the Cyberster, because I'm somewhat curious about how they can make such a low car with an enormous battery below.

I can withdraw this concern at least for my size (176 cm) meanwhile. I checked out the seating position at the Geneva Motor Show and it's perfect. No comparison with the MX-5 dollhouse.

Adding a petrol version so it can perform poorly in comparison? The best part of this car is the effortless, seamless electric drive train. But I would think this way as my Tesla model 3 dual motor is exceptional so I'm a fully fledged convert.

I see your point, but business is about selling end units.. The EV version will appeal to 4% - 5% of people, whereas a Petrol version will appeal to vast numbers.. The EV may do 0-60mph in 4 sec, but you can't drive at that speed all the time and if you did the battery would be flat in no time at all, the lack of range would drive you nuts.. I can't help but feel a 0-60mph in 6 sec with a Petrol version would be a massive success.. The car and the design are outstanding...

@@colin_a I pretty much agree with you. But,,, I have a dual motor Tesla Model 3 that also very fast. I drive fairly aggressively and because I can charge from home I routinely leave my house with 445km of range. Even driving briskly I NEVER have range anxiety. Plus where I live public chargers are pretty much everywhere but I almost never need to use them. So even if the range is not 445km but 350km I don't drive that much in a day and I charge pretty much every night to put back what I used that day. And it's from a Time Of Use meter meaning it's 8.5 cents per kwh. That means for a full 580 km charge (hypothetically 0-100%) would cost about 6.50 USD equivalent. About 9 times cheaper than my Mercedes C43 AMG. Range frankly is more than sufficient. I've got 28,450km on the Tesla after 11 months and (knock wood) it's been perfect. Only added some windshield washer fluid. Early on my wife had an issue with car sickness. The immediate acceleration followed by instant regen meant I had to learn smooth 1 pedal driving. But I now ramble. 🙄 I'm obviously smitten with BEVs so far. Cheers,

Mazda MX5 Miata moved to a metal roof but it was not well received so they reverted back to the soft top. Go figure. I had an SLK and I quite liked the folding metal roof. I have a preorder on a Cyberster and a bit concerned over the rag top. Hope it doesn't disappoint.

Lmao don't you know that MG is fully owned by China's SAIC 😂 the design is done in the UK and this is available in red colour. Of course production cars are different from the concept. This won't be cheap outside of china either
