The Ultimate Mike Portnoy Drumsticks Collection 

Very cool. I used to always use mp Dream Theater sticks with the DT logo on them but after he left I only had chewed up ones. So, I recently bought an unused pair of Dream Theater MP sticks complete with DT logo. I'm also collecting all his instructional DVDs, got two out of three so far. I also have his transcription book vol 1 (which is out of print as are his DVDs). And I have a set list that was onstage at my first Dream Theater gig which he signed when I saw him play with Transatlantic.

23:11 - the little black rubber band. Apparently this is for active grip Pro Mark sticks, and is really for shipping purposes. The black rubber band stops a pair of sticks rubbing together in the post, and stops the active grip wearing off. That’s the reason I’ve heard at least, quite happy to be corrected if anyone knows more than I do!

Incredible collection. The green monster was my favorite! Love that is still alive. I think those monsters were the best ones most iconic DT drums. My opinion really no need for anything else larger than that, it was the perfect size for DT music. Hope Mike brings something like this back to 2024 comeback tour.

I’ll have to dig it out to check but I have a MP stick that I caught at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit back in 1998. His wife Marlene took it back stage to have Mike sign it and brought us some aftershow passes as well. That was the second time I got to meet the band.

Wow! That is an incredible collection! I only have one. lol I have the Purple Hot Stick that I got from the Fix for '96 show at the Birch Hill in NJ.

The black 420X sticks he switched to are thicker and more suited to playing rock according to him. As for why black he mentioned he always wanted black sticks.

How did you aquire the green monster? I have seen the awake kit and a siamese monster for sale, but never saw the green monster for sale.
