The reason all mini pedals have offset ports is actually very easy to spot. the pedals themselves are barely wider than your standard audio cable jack so you can't physically insert two of them from opposite ends without them colliding

The In/outputs are offset because the internal parst of the those are too large to be in one line....

Those mini patch "cables" (they actually have no cable...) are not good at all, they can damage your pedals, even if they're fix in the board.

The reason why the input/output are offset on mini pedals is that the 1/4-inch plug is simply too long to go straight through a pedal that small. To have them in the same place on both sides you'd basically have to use the smaller 3,5mm jacks.

On a standard size (eg Boss) pedal with the jacks directly opposite, the tips of the plugs are about 1/4" apart when plugged in. Mini pedals are about half the width of a normal pedal, so there's no room - the jacks have to be offset.

Call me cheap but a piece of aluminium shouldn't cost over $100. Pedal boards in general are so ridiculously over priced even simple ones like this one are supper expensive

I think I'll save the $100 this piece of aluminum costs and get my own velcro and a piece of plywood and call it done.

The input and output jacks are offset in minipedals because you can not achieve the small size by putting two audio connectors next to each other, you have to put one on top of the other on the printed circuit board to reduce the thickness of the pedal. Without offsetting, no mini pedals :)

They are offset because they aren't wide enough to run them straight through.

Mini pedal inputs and outputs are offset so that the jacks can run parallel without touching, the pedals are too "skinny" to have them run straight through haha. Love your channel brother.

4:06 I wouldn't call it a trend, I'd call it basic necessity. You can't have two 1/4" jacks on the same plane on pedals this small. They won't fit in that small of a space.

I have a pedal train jr. and wired it up with pancake/flat-head cables to give me some extra room. Works well!

I'm pretty sure the inputs are always offset on mini pedals because when you put the cable into the input jack, it reaches almost to the other side of that skinny pedal.

There is a really good reason for the offset set in and outs, if you haven't figured it out. The pedals are so thin that there is literally no room for the in and outs to be directly across, cuz the jack almost goes all the way through to the other side :)

the mini pedals' offset jacks are offset for a reason, an the reason is that the jacks in a normal bigger pedal can go over and under the other, cause its thick, on the mini pedal there is only a small space where the jacks can go, and thats just for it to be possible

That was fun. I had a mini pedalboard with about 25 pedals. It was totally ridiculous. Just wanted to mention that you were using the large offset connectors that will stagger most of the Mooer and Donner minis. There are shorter offsets that allow you to horizontally match up the pedals perfectly. Also, the tiny EBS flat patch cables are about 3" long and just perfect for minis. Can’t recommend them enough. Noise-free as well. Was impressed with that noise gate.

Hold an unplugged instrument cable over a mini pedal just above where it'll plug in. Two cables won't fit unless they're offset. :-) I've got the same Polytune...love it.

Never use those solid connectors. The walls of a 1590A enclosure are slightly angled, and the solid connectors put severe stress on the jacks.

I believe small form factor pedals manufacturer prefer offset in-out jacks, because the jack socket would bump with each other if it doesn't put that way

Great piece, here. I went to a mini board to help with my bad back. I've used it for 2-years and never felt short of tools... Some suggestions: Try the small deck from a Chemistry Holeyboard and attach the rubber feet and D-braces bolt under the board. I use a Decibel-Eleven power supply under the board which is not visible, but strong enough to eliminate need for a noise gate. Also, the Wampler Mini Ego Compressor is just fantastic, too. Hope this helps.

I can't be the only one thinking this is a bad design for a board. Looks awfully messy with those tiny routs in the top to cram leads into. Nice space for a real power supply underneath though. Can't really say i will be switcing out my PT Nano+ and Metro for this. That's just my opinion anywho.

the jacks are always offset on a mini pedal for the simple reasons the jacks wouldn't fit if it's aligned. the width of the pedal is shorter than the length of 2 jacks plugged in :-)

As you've already got a few Mooer pedals, I can highly recommend the Mooer Redkid pedal. It's a talkbox/wah effect and it's awesome.

I/O are probably staggered because the pedals are narrow, two 1/4" cables wouldn't fit inline.

The reason the mini pedals have offset jacks is because there just is not room to have them inline. If you rest a cable on top of the pedal inline with where it goes in, you'll see the 1/4" jack extends almost to the other side of the pedal. Noticed that on my SP compressor!

Sweet board Tyler. I've always put my Tumnus before my higher gain pedal (an OCD). I'll have to flip the order and give it a go. I'd also be curious to perhaps replace the OCD with a couple snazzy mini dirt pedals. I run a Pedaltrain Volto under my Pedaltrain mini for portable power and one less power cord. Always dig the vids!

The mini pedals have to be offset remember theres still a guitar cable that's it's entire width being inserted there so they can't be match

Inputs in these mini pedals need to be offset because the cables wouldn't fit otherwise.

Hello there! Nice setup! I´m also a happy mini pedalboard owner (I travel a lot) and have just replace the Polytune mini for a polytune clip in order to free some space (for a TS9 mini) and I must say, I´m pretty happy with the change. -The only thing I miss is the ability to killswtch the whole thing but anyway I´m staying this way \m/

yeah man, mini pedals are too narrow to have the in and output opposite. :P The jacks would collide.

I just checked out Mono Boards ( as I am building a new board for 9 pedals ). I am surprised you did not use the Mooer E-Lady Flanger ( which is a fantastic pedal ) or their Trelicopter / Tremolo ? ( for me personally ) I like a little more space on my board = no accidental stepping on adjacent pedals, knobs & switches or changing their settings. Nice video though. Glad I have Other Options vs. Pedaltrain. Also Looking at Pedaldeck & Schmidt Array pedalboards. I like a 2 Tier Design ( for the back row ). - Michael Caz - NYC -

The input and output jacks have to be offset, or they'd clash with each other in the middle. The pedal is only a little bit wider than the length of the cable tip.

Check out EBS patch cables, the plugs are flat and the cable is flat and flexible, they take up less space than traditional patch plugs and cables FWIW

Spent my entire career so far with the same or similar rig, very basic pedals, strat, vox/fender amps - 8 years now... Recently started changing the tide bought a Gibson, some mini pedals and started looking at lunchbox amps! Cause the times they are a changing 😅

How could it not be offset in that small of a box? You know how long a 1/4" cable is, I'm sure.

Mooer, Joyo, and Donner have saved me a lot of pedalboard real estate. Left me enough space for a couple of whoppers (MUFFFFFZZZ), the ubiquitous OCD and some Boss pedals. Boss Es-5 Loop Switcher as the "brain". Small but powerful. And I LURVE my vintage Phase 90. Phasers are coming back in, I tells ya! They are, and so are flares, macrame, and LSD parties... I can't wait for my MI Boost 'n Buff and my RC Booster (rare wood-tone chrome finish model)
