The removable part on the wheel is called a bead locker, it stops your tyre from coming off of rim if for any reason you need to run really low pressure. Awesome van BTW really enjoy the content of all videos. 🤙
This is immense. Probably my OCD talking but it’d be good to have a pull-down screen to create a barrier between the bikes when they’re pulled out and the back of the van. To stop the mud splattering into the back of the van when you’re using the pressure washer.

Iv watched so so many van build but I’ve seen nothing like that. It’s so funny about how stoked U get about the small things like he blue stitches on the seats. Sick van mate and so excited to see the final product.
Those rims are actually bead lock rims. The removable strip around the rim holds the tyre in place so you can run low pressures off road with out popping the tyre off the bead.
The "removable" bolted-on ring on the wheel is called a bead lock... If the van goes seriously offroad, you may want to air down the tires to increase traction on snow or sand. The bead lock keeps the tire on even with very low pressure.
The thing that i love about this series already is that matt is like a glorified big kid who gets to play with larger and larger toys, and we get to witness the unadulterated joy that he experiences in real time. so good.
Just amazing! But, to be the ultimate mtb van,I think u should have a bike clamp for tinkering on you're rigs. They could rig something up right off the back door. Gorgeous project!🤘
Bilsteins are very good and that outer ring on the wheels should be a beadlock but they may just be for looks. Usually bead locks are used so you can run lower air pressure in your tire without the risk of popping it off bead.
Hey Matt, the ring around the outside of your rims is the bead locker, sometimes they are cosmetic but it essentially allows you to air down your tires for offroading without taking the bead off the rim, wicked van! Have a T5 over in England and a 70s Dodge Shorty in BC

What you refer to "curb protection" are: Beadlocks; are mechanisms on off-road wheels that essentially clamp the tire bead to the wheel, preventing the tire from coming off. They were originally developed for military vehicles to prevent tires from coming off the wheel while under extreme torque and load stress when run with lower tire pressure.
I'd get them to fit a solar panel on the roof while its there will keep lesuire batteries charged without ever needing hookup or having to keep starting the van to charge, van looks sick love it
Yo Matt! Cleaning tip!! Spin the bikes around on the mount, so you rear wheel is on the ground and the fork mount is still mounted and stable. Clean the bikes on the ground instead! No cleaning of the tray required! Thank me later!
This is really sick. Currently in the process of planning our van out for a big road trip around Europe hopefully next year. Going to need a bigger van as we will be living in it for months and I need space for my surfboards as well as the bikes!
