If there's one thing I want to be thankful for this digital age... it's the access to wonderful knowledge shared by wonderful people like Dr. Berg... even from afar...
Whole family loves your videos, I lost 24+ pounds learning and applying your advice. Also just feel a whole lot better mentally and physically. May God Bless you and your family Dr. Berg!!
Just don't drink milk or eat dairy from non-human (animals), you're literally not a cow - their proteins are foreign to our bodies. Want to build acidity in your body, keep eating "meat" flesh... eventually CANCER happens. It's our diets that create cancer. When people say "it's genetic", well yeah, so are our diets, our eating habits are passed down from our families. Want to learn about protein, I highly recommend Dr. Milton Mills so you're healthy now and later on in life. People never question or think critically as to how gorillas, monkeys, etc, maintain their size and strength without eating flesh each day everyday. Again, we're not cows, we don't need to literally suck on the tit of a cow for calcium. We don't need as much as the dairy industry lobbies our governments to dictate to us that we need lots of it. Chicken eggs, are periods, does that seem natural to you?
I've been following your advice on IF, deleting sugars, refined carbs, bad oils, and actually reading the ingredient labels of foods. I started at 340 lbs Jan 3rd. I'm now 319 Jan 28. I feel so much better! I'm less moody, less hungry, and have less brain fog. My body doesn't feel weak, and I actually have the strength to implement weight training. Came upon this video and I definitely look forward to seeing results in the months to come! Thank you for sharing so much knowledge to help us become better versions of ourselves!

This is great advice for losing weight but not so much for maintaining a lot of muscle. Two times a day? Really? You won’t be able to get enough food to maintain and extremely active lifestyle eating 3 oz of meat twice a day. There’s this thing called macro nutrition. I challenge anyone to show me how to macro engineer a twice a day meal plan and hit your macros for a 2000 calorie diet with 3 oz of meat and no sugars…. Aka no carbs. Lol. Laughable You can’t say “insulin’ resistance” aka less carbs and less meat and still make it to 2000 calories. Let’s say you have as high as 50g protein per meal(you can’t with 3 oz but I’ll entertain this non sense) that’s 400 calories. Day from protein. Let’s say 50’carbs because you don’t wanna spike insulin right? There’s another 400. So you’d need 1200 calories from fats to get to 2,000. Idc what diet you are on when 60 percent of calories come from fat…. That’s not an ideal diet or healthy. Period. That’s well into the 100s for grams of fat. Are you seriously gonna accept someone saying you need 50g fat per meal twice a day? Non sense! Use the 4-4-9 method and do the math. This doesn’t add up. Eating 4-5 smaller meals with less fat is more successful and boosts metabolism more. Eating 2x a day for anything other than weight loss is looney.
@@thereisnosuchthingasanativ904 Some excellent points here. Thank you for sharing. Will the 4 to 5 meals a day spike insulin more? Will these increased insulin spikes add more fat, and reduce muscle building?
@@thereisnosuchthingasanativ904 you can literally find a video on youtube of a guy eating like 2 times a day (with a small snack of fruit/nuts iirc) in a keto based diet. Just type 2000 cal keto diet with 2 meals in a day. The guy I'm talking about had a tumor in his brain and decided to change his lifestyle and I only watched like 2 videos from him but he seemed to be doing fine. He ate around 1000 cals each meal and fasted for 16 hours or so. Can't remember his name but I'm sure you'll find him on RU-vid.
@@thereisnosuchthingasanativ904 he stated 3-6oz of meat btw, but i do agree with your points i myself am trying to loose weight but not a fast pace so i can maintain muscle, i end up getting 140g-160g of protein on meal a day with less then 20g of carbs which is been around 1600kcal eaten on average, for some1 like me who is 19yrs old and extremely active it is impossible for me to gain weight when im burning >3500kcal + , if i followed his advice and tried to gain weight it would be a whole different story
@@thereisnosuchthingasanativ904 Also I don't think we can have a biased approach towards high fat diets ofc we know there is different types of fats and the ones he is talking about are healthy for our body from the little research that there is, he promotes fat from Meat, Fish, olive oils ect.... , not seed oils

Always nice to see some acknowledgment. I’m on these habits for the last 20 years. Don’t drink, don’t smoke, practice I.F. don’t need or take any medication etc. Today I’m 65; I work out 7 on 7. One hour in the morning immediately after waking up and in the late afternoon I do 300 push-ups (3 x 100) with varying hand stands. When I do my shoulders and back (2 times each week) I still manage to do 9 series of 20 pull-ups (Broad grip, less broad grip, shoulder width). I look like a twenty year old athlete and I’m seldom sick. Feeling great every day is the payoff.
Ever since I started intermittent fasting, eating one meal a day, and eating nutrient dense foods I have lost about 30 pounds and I have a Eerily noticed that my stress level is always very low. If you follow this advice and reduce protein intake to 2-3 meals a day with max 30g each time (I assume form his recommended small serve) you will not grow much muscle and if reducing intake you may lose mass. This "the body can't process more than 25-30g protein at once + it hurts the liver" rhetoric has been disproven more than once. This advice is fine for maintenance of a very average and slim (+healthy) physique (nothing wrong with this at all) but you will not gain much muscle like this. The micronutrients he mentioned are great and I was on board but the rest of the presentation is based off the assumption we all have insulin resistance or can develop it easily from having a snack or protein shake each day!... not the case.
THANK YOU! I’ve been trying to figure out for YEARS the relationship between long slow distance athletes and my “instinct” that it was part of insulin resistance. Now i understand, and am glad you explained it so well.

It is called adaptation to the activity you do. You cannot endure muscle with endurance sport so you body will make weaker and smaller muscles called slow twich muscles that doesn't consume allot of energy or oxygen. That is the real reasoning.
Well fast twitch muscles are typically the "big" muscles fibres and are responsible for short term explosive action like sprints and heavy lifting. Slow twitch muscles are "small" muscle fibres which are more useful for endurance related activities. Compound this with the fact that if youre doing something like long distance running you dont want to be carrying around a bunch of extra weight in the form of large muscle fibres. Its one of the reason body builders hate cardio, they weigh too much and have built up their fast twitch more than their slow twitch
First time I finally understand what really needs to be done for muscle growth and eating the right things including potassium/trace minerals, etc. Going to get the book.

You've never seen a pro body builder who didn't eat less than 200grams of protein a day though. And who didn't eat anything less than 5 meals a day. This stuff sounds good on paper, and maybe for the average person. But the thing is, in real life its always the skinny people who don't workout and have the body to show it talk about these things. They say all this but the real world results are always different. Listen to a Body Builder Doctor and MD that's also a body Builder and youll get a completely different Take on this. SO for all you people watching. Don't believe everything this doc is saying on this topic because he doesn't have life experience in this and a passion in body building/aka building muscle. He doesn't know what it takes. Their may be some science to this but real world results paint a completely different picture and have way more factors involved. In the end of the day you cant really have a perfect diet to get BIG/Real Body Building. It just isn't possible for most people. Our body's are different and absorb nutrients different and metabolize different. We have different stress levels and schedules and Different Tolerances and intolerances to food, Different genetics etc. Some people Respond different to different things. My body responded Greatly to taking in high amounts of protein, And taking in a large amount of carbs, In order to perform at a high level in the gym i need to carb up before my workout and even take a protein powder shake within 1 hour of working out. I also workout for 2-4 hours in the gym doing full body. The thing is not everyone responds the same way to building body and nutrients, Nutrients and sleep however are the 2 BIGGEST things to building muscle, I think everyone in the body building industry and Science Nerds can agree on that.
Creatine and amino acids help. Glutamine too. I think eating 4-5 meals a day is key to gaining muscle. So I concur with what you said. Red meat is huge. I eat tons of good steak. That helps!
Exactly what I thought. His statements contradict everything that modern science on muscle building tells us. Moderate your protein? What!? I'm gonna go on a limb here and say that's just not true. High intensity intervall training for muscle growth? To some extent - yes for newbie gains. But it's a proven fact that for sustained muscle growth progressive overload is required. Idk I just don't buy it what this man says. Also, it's funny how in every video he does, he sneakily tries to pry either intermittent fasting or the ketogenic diet in his story haha

With your help I have lost 35kgs. I tried every diet and method. What worked for me was watching your shopping video. The consistency staying of sugar for me , lowering carbs and intermittent fasting worked wonders. Thsnkyou for your service sir
Before I lost 60lbs (230lbs sitting at 170lbs with a built musclier frame) I started with just dirt changed and the help of IF, I fasted 16-18-20 throughout my weeks and it really changed my body. I still have a small portion of loose skin but I take supplements and hydrate effectively and it’s slowly getting better. IF is a great tool to use for both weight loss but also to re-set your body. What you are saying about intermittent is absolutely correct, l started eating two meals since the fourth day of this month and l realize that l am adding on muscle and I can stand all day without my feet getting tired.
@MrMcGoy I too take two full meals a day and HIIT training 1.5 hours a day and it does deliver good and satisfying results, overeating only mess the digestive system metabolism.
It can’t get any better than this! The way you explain everything and how you make it all simple is honestly amazing and we are all grateful for that. Thank you Dr. Eric it is much appreciated for what you are doing sir!
There is a ton of wrong information in social media. Most of the gainers don't even understand how muscles grow. They keep on increasing protein intake killing their gains and themselves too. You're putting in light to this world, thank you very much.
Dr. B, you have been the only Doctor to help me control my PCOS symptoms and finally decrease my hormonal belly. THANK YOU!! Your wisdom and hard work is very appreciated.
Thank you again for your help. I have begun intermittent fasting. I did 16 hours and ate meals within an 8 how time period. Now I am moving to 20 hours fast and I cut my meal to one. I was planning on 2 meals but I wasn't hungry when the time came to eat so I waited and got busy with other things. I did finally begin to get hungry but it was so late and near bedtime so I toughed it out and I am waiting for the 20 hours to expire before I break my fast. I sense a taste of success and my next step is to work on applying the proper vitamins and reasonable fats and proteins to maximize my metabolism. Thank you Dr. Berg.
I hope that you know that you can drink all of the water, black tea, and black coffee that you want. Drinking these things will help your hunger go away. And once your body adapts to how you were eating you’ll notice your hunger urges become less frequent.
I agree with not taking in simple sugars and protein shakes. However, the bottom line for building muscle is being in a caloric surplus and keeping the body in an anabolic state. Hormones such testosterone (T), GH, IGF-1, and calories are needed to grow muscle. The calories consumed should be of high value and quality. My favorite go to carb for building muscle is jasmine rice. Also, have to keep in mind that high intensity resistance training will increase insulin sensitivity as muscles grow bigger and bigger.
Thank you dr. Berg. You really seem to understand it, and it does make sence to me. I started a week ago.. layed off snacks, great amout of sugar and carbs, added more fat, started eating 4 eggs for breakfast, stopped drinking Protein shakes, added a LOT of veggies, also started eating avocado for potassium. Thank you for meaningful advice :)
@@FastHandzEddie I also want to add that only thing I didn't do is 2 - 3 meals a day. It was 5 - 6 meals separated in about of 30g of protein in each of them.
Thanks a lot, this will help me, I am 55, been on a training diet programme for six weeks, lost 28lbs, I am greatly concerned about muscle preservation, after watching your clear video I will be removing one meal/shake a day, so 3 meals/shakes a day, 6 hour gaps and a 12 hour gap overnight. I was a snacker, during last six weeks been having a piece of fruit between meals/shakes, I have stopped this, I have fruit same time as shake. I am looking forward to seeing results. Thanks again.
Do yourself a favour and check the ingredients of your meal/shake. Does it contain maltodextrin, soya isolates etcetera? Read up on those and others and/or check what Dr Berg says about them!

I believe it has a lot to do with your goal, in terms of how quickly you want to see results. Also, body builders have a very strict regime so the science behind what they do works once everything is done precisely. Dr. Berg's information is for the average joe who isn't as structured as a pro bodybuilder but still looking to gain muscle mass. With his tips that is a slow but still healthy process to gain. On a side note though, after reaching their ideal weight there are bodybuilders I follow that do IF to maintain their weight. So it is just a matter of your goals and which method works best for you.

Great video. I have found the following exercise routine to be excellent for HIT. Pick up a barbell and do 15 curls using approx. 75-80 % of max. And then immediately without putting the barbell down do 15 overhead presses then immediately do 15 full squats then immediately do 5 more overhead presses then hold the barbell overhead for another 20-30 seconds then return the barbell to the floor. Everytime you give certain advice to adrenal type people with diabetes or with high stress levels, they try to follow your advice by eating the things you say but then everything they do interferes with the drugs that those "we know better" type of doctors prescribed to them. Your ideas clash with theirs and they keep forcing to keep taking all the nonsense drugs like blood thinners, blood pressure lowering pills, etc. etc.. But when you try to go drug free it goes very complicated and now doctors start to scare the hell out of their patients even with an insulting tone to keep them on drugs. It becomes a Catch-22 situation where patient can't leave drugs but also wants to follow your advice. The doctors win. How do I know this? I know it from my mom.. and it seems like it is impossible for me to convince her to get rid of the drugs since then I become responsible for everything that could happen afterwards. Long story short: I think unless universities put out more and more doctors who do intensive research like Dr. Berg this problem will continue to grow based on an endless cycle caused by hypocrites.
Listen to your doc, but, do your own research - like this vid & others. You aren't required to do what your doc says. I had to do my own research to find out I have a gluten sensitivity on my own. The old school tests, 50 years old, said I have no gluten problem. I completely cleared my rash, found I was very low on certain vitamins & enzymes on my own. Current med. practices feature decades old std. tests & procedures. You have to be willing to do some research/experimenting on your own....current medical is broken, unless you have a broken arm or heart attack.........
Doctors tell their patients to exercice and eat healthy all the time. The patients don’t always follow this advice and choose to take a pill because its easy. Don’t blame everything on the doctors.
I’ve listened and subbed a bunch of peeps over the years. Sigh. Eventually everyone of them mentions weight loss. Important for some but not me. I need to gain weight and muscle in my aging years. This opened my ears and eyes.

Great video. Learning so much from you, Dr. Berg. QUESTION. If I only eat 2-3 meals a day my weight would drop dramatically. How would I still be able to build muscle if I'm not eating 5 or 6 meals per day? Whenever I drop it to 4 meals my weight drops significantly. I generally lift weights 6 days per week. I don't like looking and feeling skinny. Thanks and gladly awaiting your advice!
Right!? I think he’s spreading misinformation in a way. I could see if someone was “Diabetic” and extremely “Overweight”. Then what he’s saying would be accurate. Yet if you’re someone who’s on the “Thinner” side and you’re not “Diabetic”. Then why would you train intensely (5-7) days per week but only eat (2-3) meals a day with no “Snacks”??? What kind of benefits are you getting from that??? Absolutely zero…
Sir, according to Ganong- 22nd / 337 & Guyton- 11th/ 963 : 1) Insulin increases protein synthesis & amino acid uptake at liver. 2) Insulin also increases protein synthesis & amino acid uptake at skeletal muscles. 3) Insulin decreases protein catabolism at skeletal muscles.
of course, you need insulin. insulin is so very important. but you need to lay off the carbs and sugar for a while to reset your body, then start applying a healthier diet.
