I love my vita to this day. I find it infuriating that sony created such an amazing product, shot themselves in the foot through lack of publicity and overpriced accessories and then blamed underwhelming sales on lack of interest. An updated vita using today's level of mobile device power would be an absolute monster.
They did the same thing with the ps3. They didn't learn. That's why to this very day they had great ideas but they will ALWAYS be a super greedy company.
I used to have a Vita growing up, oh how I loved it so. I was so protective of it, I always kept it clean (by wiping the screen down with some water, which was before I started using a fabric wipe instead). At one point, I overdid it and lost my Vita entirely. Oh the games I played on it too! Tearaway was my favorite! I believe that Sony shouldn't remake the Psvita anytime soon. By remaking it, they're just stripping away what made it special, it was the only console with it's specs and everything. I love my new Psvita 2000, and I will always cherish it!
PSVITA will defenitely not get supported on the PS5. I know Sony is seeing Nintendo's success with the Switch. Without a doubt they'll do the same thing. Hell, Sony tried copying the Wii.
The only place where the presentation could be improved is if he would stop shaking his hands. It’s distracting and doesn’t add to my understanding of the content. That said, it’s an excellent video.
The fact that PSP came out when PS2 was relevant and PS3 was just coming into play, and the fact that PSP had similar graphics to the PS2 on the go was mind boggling
If only Vita didn't had that garbage SD card ... That's what killed the Vita in the end and this is so sad ! This is why the sales were not good at all . I am sure 100% that if PS Vita had a normal SD card , it would have been doing very good even today but we can't change time .
Don't be too sure. Most people mobile game on tablets or smartphones. 3DS is doing enough to stay alive and Sony always had less portable sales than Nintendo.
The PSP is my favorite handheld console of all time. So far ahead of it’s time, insane library and holds up incredibly well to this day. I was born in 1993 so the whole PS2/PSP era is my golden age of gaming and nostalgia.
I still use the PS Vita. I was one of the first people to hack it and now the PS Vita hacking scene has become pretty active. You can even buy "micro SD card to memory stick" converters for the PS Vita. I can play GB, GBA, Nintendo DS, PS1, MS-DOS, PSP, Sega Genesis, N64, Super Nintendo games on it. With the 128GB micro SD card, I can fit most of my favorite games on it. p.s. The proprietary memory cards were what killed the PS Vita. It's pretty sad.
I have a PS3 and everytime I go look for new games on the PS Store, there are ALWAYS PS Vita games that keep coming out. It is absolutely insane how underrated this is. If I had the time to list them all, I could list some ridiculously good games for the Vita. Any comments that exist to say that the Vita's library is lacking would be an absolute myth.
Jay Cann it’s completely free. Probably takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes. But that’s just to jailbreak it. Putting games on takes a bit more. There’s some great videos showing a step by step process on how to do it.
If only I had people who can play monster hunter freedome unite with me but it's those good ol days now my psp l button is broken and I have these weird lines in my screen
IDK about everyone's childhood. I had one. I only played Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core. Great game wish they would bring that over to the PS4. Kinda Ironic bc the Vita I did the same thing. I only played Persona 4G.
I got the PSP 1000 in 2006 and it was amazing! It was so much fun to play and I have fond memories of the console. I sold it in 2012 and regretted it immediately. I’m happy to say that I ordered another PSP 1000 series and I cannot wait to play again😄
ProjectKhan I own a grey psp 3000, black pspgo, and the greatness that is the black ps vita 2000, which I regularly buy games for. Unfortunately the grey psp has a green line going across the top of the screen so I'll one day replace it. Awesome handhelds.
Damn I always felt PSP's were badass. So much more potential then the DS series. They just handled it wrong I feel at the start and by the time they got it down it was to late.
Portable consoles were usually bought for kids so parents are for sure gonna get the DS. But smartphone gaming killed portable consoles even though 3DS is surviving. Back in the day everyone had either a DS or PSP. Now most people don't have either a 3DS or VITA
Abel Ruiz there are great games that are still coming out for the 3ds but it's definitely selling well still because it's low price, fantastic library and it's marketed so well from Nintendo. Nintendo treated the DS perfectly and it just sucks that Sony failed with the psp and vita since they really screwed up and they don't even support it
@@gangsterhamster8415 I know that the 3ds/2ds is doing fine but it'll never do as good as the DS since smartphone and tablets are the new mobile game machine. 3DS/2DS and Switch combined probly won't sell as much as DS.
@@abelruiz1996 pretty much. The 3ds is back to pre-ds, that is to say, GBA numbers. Exept in japan where even though it has fallen since last gen, Vita+3ds equals ds numbers. So a 50 percent growth compared to GBA, while home consoles dropped off like a rock after ps2. Which is exactly the market they are going for with the switch in japan.
They can revise the system. They can stuff it with 8-16 gigs of ram, a snapdragon or Tegra X1 chip, & a large battery. Cut out phone network access thing to reduce production cost, most people use wifi anyway. Put a large battery, and contract razor for that 120hz touch screen.
I don't understand why they don't do this. They make great high-quality expensive phones already. They have the resources. And the PlayStation systems have always been stronger than Nintendo's systems. They were fools to not take advantage of that. The market could have been their's, but I think they were too intimidated by Pokemon. And their greed with the memory card prices led to their downfall. But in the end, they did it all to themselves.
And use fricking micro SD instead of their stupid proprietary and expensive memory cards that are honestly what kept alot of people from getting a PS Vita
@@GrubKiller436 we'll I don't think they could have taken the market but it would still be selling well even today. this is because it is not just pokémon but also Zelda, smash bros, Mario, Kirby, pimkin, Mario kart, luigis mansion... to terminate those franchises you would need alot more money than sony has at is disposal.
Its very rare thats I watch an entire 15+ minute RU-vid video thats NOT a tutorial. What a masterclass presentation. I love the PSP. Got one in 2011, right as I got out of high school. Just bought a secondhand one online to use for emulation. I never played the PSVita but would sure love to try.
Thank you! If you're interested, I made another video just like this one, but it's based on the PlayStation home consoles: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yMzkNHpSPM4.html
Despite never owning a PSP, I got the Vita myself. I really do have fun with it as I always enjoyed the games that were available. From Assassin's Creed III Liberation, Gravity Rush and my JRPG games. The Vita deserved more love. I do hope Sony continues in the handheld system but if not then it will be an end to a great era.
Liberation is kinda a meh AC game ... I fucking love Gravity Rush though ... The art style, the music, the general idea ... great but repetitivness is real in this game ... those mini dlcs were a joke ...
Liberation is great and more fun to me than assasins on psp. I really enjoy cod on vita despite not having killer graphics like killzone mercenary or uncharted golden abyss etc. I rate most of my vita games better than I had on psp so I think it comes more down to not having specific games like gta psp highest seller or star wars also a big hit on psp.
As one of the few people who still regularly play a vita, I went to Japan last year and my mind was blown to see vita games still in mainstream gaming stores
The Vita is hands down the best handheld ever created, even though the PsP sold better and it was a great system, The Vita was definitely a way better system with a big upgrade in visuals and graphics. The PsP cant even compare...
@@chrisd8180 psp is not the best handheld ever created now you are being delusional, lol I have a moded psp and I also have a Nintendo switch , The psp is great but Nintendo switch is clearly a superior handheld hybrid console
@GrindZ PW - Gaming He also said the vita is the best handheld system ever made and its definitely not the switch is the best handheld gaming console ever made
I understand, but people just trusted nintendo with handhelds at the time, due to the gameboy ds etc. Also the EXCLUSIVE GAMES like mario and zelda. I am a nintendo fan, but i dont hate sony or microsoft, and i really thought the psp and vita were a waste of potential.
I agree. Prefer handheld over home consoles. Altho I love the Nintendo Switch, I would like Sony to give handheld another shot. Would love those playstation games on the go on a proper handheld console and not a phone or tablet!
I remember well begging my mom to get me the PSP in 2007. Ended up getting the package that came with ATV off-road blazin trails and lords of dog town movie. The PSP was future in the early 00’s. Kids now a days have no clue... the PSP was the iPhone of our generation. I actually went and bought a 1000,3000, vita, and the speakers you could mount your PSP on.
Michael Finley I wish the early 2000’s could last forever it’s really annoying nowadays how people complain about how bad the older stuff looks because they’re used to seeing 4K graphics
For me, PS Vita is also my favorite handheld system so far. It's so handy/lightweight (in comparison to the Switch) and it had so much potential with the touchscreen in the front and back and the camera! Love Tearaway for trying out all the features the vita had!
A PSP 3000 running CFW and expanded SD is the best handheld of all time. Mine has over 300 PS1 games, 100 PSP games, and thousands of NES SNES GB GBA and Genesis games. All for under $125. You can’t beat that...
Baba Kazi check out a channel by Tech James. You can definitely do it all on a Vita, but the memory costs a ton more. Although, I did just watch a video where they got standard SD memory working on a Vita.
@@TNVGAMING don`t u need a lot of storage to be able to get all of those roms/games? I was thinking about picking up a psp 3000 and downloading lots of roms on it but im not sure hw mch storage it will take and stuff.
The PSP proved that u don't need high end graphics to sell a portable console unlike the Vita, u need a library of games, Nintendo realized that, that's why they are on top
sayyam nasir that’s so facts i was thinking about this the whole time about honestly play station in general but they do have SOME awesome titles of course, but whenever i think of sony i don’t really have a game that pops in my head because sony really doesn’t have a crazy major title like mario or smash, or mario kart, zelda and that’s just a few.. now that i think about it when i had my psp i never had a game that i crazed over to play tbh the console was awesome but the games were just ass
@@lil3sixproductions522 Sony doesn't have crazy major title? Bro are you high? God of War, Uncharted, Persona, Sly, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Infamous and many more. In terms of game library, Sony and Nintendo is almost equal.
Tbh, the ps vita couldve been successful if sony actually tried to remake some ps2 games or ps1 classics. Look at p4g, it was such a big success because everyone loved replaying an improved game and experiencing the nostalgia. The fact that they just made players able to download the old games from playstore was just disappointing and showed they werent putting in as much effort. In short, they tried too hard to make a handheld play like a ps3
@@dingdong_69 The thing is Persona 4 Golden wasn't just ordinary remake, it has ton of new content yet the core game isn't much different than the original game and its ATLUS decision to make not Sony. Sony actually already tried making brand new games like Uncharted Golden Abyss, Wipeout 2048, Killzone Mercenary or even a remastered with FF X & X-2 HD and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection but Sony lack of marketing and also really damn expensive custom SD card kills the system. Most people doesn't even know incredible games that i just mentioned because Sony just gave up marketing the game and system after the sales drop.
Jehezz lmao honestly, sony just killed it with the shitty ass pricing on memory cards. And made the vita a bit too powerful for its time causing it’s price to be questionable in comparison to home consoles
Amazing video!!! I have the Vita 2000 and it's great. Learned a lot about the PSP with this video, and was truly surprised that the original PSP had WiFi and could access the PS Store.. I didn't even know there was a PS Store back then.
Sure was a gaming era and I'm glad I was apart of it all and got to experience it when they were all new! Recently got my old psp and vita out of storage and began playing them again, brings back so many good memories! ☮
Picked up a psp 3000 and a 2000 vita recently. I can confidently say they're outstanding handhelds. I really slept on both these consoles as a kid and it's a delight to have them as an adult. Nice, detailed presentation dude. This ruled
I enjoyed the PSP for years and have only come into Vita ownership in 2023. Wow what a console. It links to my PS4 controller and is a brilliant unit with so many good games. Thats led on to me purchasing all the PSPs now. This video helped me decide that I wanted to get every one and I am pleased I have. Thanks for this informative video.
PSVita was the best. I bought one even though I was discouraged about the memory card with it being so pricey. was still a good buy and I wish I still had my PSVita. with the success of the Nintendo switch Sony should really rethink about updating the PS Vita or making a new portable.
vita is great cause you can play ps1 games, psp games, ps vita games and a bunch of great indie games, also some ps2 remasters on there, its a good way of playing a bunch of playstation titles on the go
In 2004, I still remember how dang advanced the PSP 1000 was. It was high school and still two years before the iPhone but this thing was like somebody shrunk the PS2, threw in an iPod and gave it advanced features you just didn’t find anywhere else. It was incredible.
the dreamcast and PSP were the only consoles i can remember that truly blew my mind when they released. the dreamcast had internet capabilities at a time when internet gaming on a console was foreign as hell... unique, and genuinely fun games, and the VMU in the controller... then the PSP came and made gaming/media on the go so much fun. Music,Movies,Games, internet, online gaming, awesome indie and third party games, the ability to play classic PS1 games on the go,THE MODDING.... this little beast was my go to handheld when i first came out... and still is.
I have a 3.65 Henkaku Fat PS Vita and love it to death. Beautiful OLED screen, amazing games, confortable responsive analogs, it's the best handheld gaming console by far. And as it's hacked, you can play PSP, Nes, SNes, Genesis, CPS-1, CPS-2, etc, games on it.
@@merouby Had a PSP, loved it! But, for me, the analog nub was pretty unconfortable (and also, as it's made out of plastic, mine broke inside the PSP) and the OLED screen of the Vita really enhances all the games. I played the heck out of my PSP before I sold it went I got a Vita, as you wrote, the game library is amazing.
This might be my single favorite video on RU-vid. It’s so good I find myself returning to it regularly, and the quality is so high. Thank you for giving the PSP the respect it deserve!
The Vita is an amazing console, and thanks to hackers, it finally showed much of its true potential. When people talk about console hackers in a bad way, thinking they are mostly for piracy, I'd point people to the amazing job they've done with Vita. SD2Vita to replace the expensive Sony memory cards, Moonlight, VitaGrafix, LOLIcon, udcd_uvc for video output and capture, the addition of analog controls on some PSP games as well as using the second analog (NOT the default sony implementation. Real analog controls and even remapped functions), Adrenaline basically makes you have 2 systems inside of just one, completely emulating the PSP's XMB. This along with all the emulators available for PSP and VIta, that you can use in a single console, makes it my favorite portable ever.
I mostly don't like hackers due to the cheating I have seen them do in online games but I realize they make some positive contributions like additional features or being able to use standard memory cards though
I mostly hate dealing with hackers in online games not for piracy and I enjoyed my psp and continue to enjoy my vita plenty without hacking them though I dont' play classis nes,etc games just current the oldest being ninja gaiden sigma plus on vita/ps4 both and a game that I have been playing since original xbox
@@Gloryboyquan Yes! Still an amazing console! With the Steam Deck around now I mostly play on that, but the Vita is still really good if you can get it for a cheap price!
Even though I have been a subscriber to your channel for a long time, somehow with my busy work schedule I missed this video--so glad RU-vid recommended it to me so here I am admiring your all-white handhelds. I'm in love
I’ve had a PSP since I was around three or four years old and to see this vid almost made me cry looking back at all the fun times I had not only with the PSP but just in general back then.
Dude I just want to go back in time to when I had my PSP (still have it now). Endless hours of GTA Liberty city and LUMINES. Then came the modding scene and the next thing I was playing Sonic Advance 3 again and pokemon emerald. The PSP was way ahead of its time and its functionality left the DS in the dust. I had so many fond memories of that powerful device. Also just recently got a Vita second hand which luckily came with a game and I also got LUMINES electronic symphony, loving it so far. It's too bad that Sony have left Nintendo to own the handheld market. I'd love to see them try again.
Playing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on the PSP is just the best memory i have. Playing with my friends and beating elder dragons and claiming the loot is just amazing.
Great video! I have multiple PSPs but the 3000 is always my go-to. I do notice the scanlines but the quality of the screen is so much improved I truly can't complain. It's a great trade off, and I still use my PSP regularly. I do also own a Vita, which I bought used, and only played a couple of the exclusive games on it (like Gravity Rush) before the memory card situation became too much of an issue. I think if they had just stopped being stubborn and offered a version of the Vita that took some form of SD card (even if it was in addition to their format) the Vita would have been a success. I do hope for another handheld from Sony and I hope they focus more on accessibility than anything else.
I got a PSP 3000 back in christmas of 2012. I remember playing Call of Duty Roads to Victory and GTA LCS. Unfortunately I accidentally erased my saved files. Now my PSP is somewhat broken where you if turn it off, it won't turn back. So I have charge it just turn it one. Anyways it was good times planning to fix it soon.
With the introduction of smart phones and apps, consumers had to decide weather to get a smart phone or a psp. The decision was clear. With the advent of smart phone and the impatience of Sony the demand decreased. But, I believe that if they were to revive this device, they would sell well in this time. Wonderful history lesson. Well done.
Imagine how powerful a new gen PSP would be in they made one now. It was so ahead of it's time when it first came out while gameboy was playing 8 bit games. My phone has a 1440p display I bet if they made a new PSP it would be a power house
I love both my PSP and PSV dearly especially with all their utility and forward thinking.....but also seeing them waved around so casually made me anxious after my PSV broke 😂
I have the first gen vita and my gosh, I booted it up for the first time in years last week and it's the best thing I ever did. So many great games and memories with it.
That PSP 2000 with the Vader image on the back is the exact model I got when it came out as a kid! I also got Wipeout Pure with it! The nostalgia is real...
One of my first, if not the first console I ever owned was the PSP. I got the monster Hunter freedom unite bundle and remember playing it constently and being captivated by that game The PSP start up sound in the video brought nostalgic tears to my eyes and to me is as iconic as the PS1 or PS2 start up music
@Nafis Zaman I wouldn't say its the best But at that time yes But Monster Hunter 4 ultimate does it better, since it introduced 2 new weapon, new species, and fix most of the problem that monster Hunter Freedom Unite have at that time
I really would LOVE another PSP. I literally brought my PSP (can’t remember if it was the 2000 or 3000 series) everywhere I went. With how fast technology is evolving, Sony can make a PSP with great specs and atleast 256 gb of on board storage, maybe possibly making it a competitor to the Nintendo Switch.
I owned the PSP 1000 series, 3000, PS Vita (OLED) and PS TV, which basically was a Vita in a dock. I actually got my Vita as new unsold stock in 2016 for £109 with WipEout 2048 and a 16gb card. It was the best time too, because everybody had loads of Vita games and accessories that they were happy to get off of shop shelves or give away as unwanted Christmas presents. And let's not forget modding, or how well it runs PS1 games...
The psp is still my favorite handheld to date. The game catalogue and support from third party developers was amazing and holds warm memories. The only thing I didn’t like were the fragile umd cases. Imagine if it didn’t have those cases and instead used a motor system like ps3 to insert the discs. Or if it used carts like Nintendo, bypassing the need for an optical drive and enhancing the battery life. I was thrilled when PSVita was announced and said to use carts. Only the game library was lacking and I never got excited owning the system since it lost momentum quickly. Then Nintendo released the switch. But I’m into handheld gaming and very peculiar about what I want from a handheld. I wanted a full body design. Enter the switch lite, exactly what I wanted, on paper. Then I caught wind of thumbstick drift, and the same kind of screen lottery that plagued the 3DS back in the day. I lost my faith in Nintendo. They sacrifice quality every chance they get to cut costs and save a dime. And on top of that they won’t let you transfer saves to the sd card. Which means if I bought a switch lite and put 50 hours in breath of the wild or witcher 3, then get plagued by stick drift, I’ll lose my progress if I want to replace the system. And games bought from their online store save on a system, not an account with which you would be able to switch between systems in as few steps as possible. Seems like Nintendo has a way of making simple things extremely complicated. They make good games, but poor software decisions.
I remember the old trick of taking out the UMD whilst hosting an online game like Vice city stories and giving the UMD to your friend who didn't have the game so he could load up and join. Of course it only lasted until you had some kind of loading screen but it worked for a decent amount of time on certain games :)
You forgot to mention that PsP e1000 (Street) didn't have a brightness button and a mute button. And how mushy the membrane of it is, and how hard it is to press.
Well me too until now never get PSP.. But now i can buy it except that i dont want to buy it right now because i want to save it for more important things in the future.. Hopefully i get one in the future.. Probobly in 2020 - 2022😂😭
me too. i had to work hard for it. need to save money and i bought the 2000. it was shit. psp 1000 screen was much better looking because it was warmer. i hate the blueish and violetish color screen on the 2000 above so i sold my 2000 to buy 1000 and it was much better
God...I used to play with my PSP when I was a child. The nostalgia hit me so hard right now. Funny story: My first game was Spider-Man 3 and I was really excited about it. So I start playing and after the menu, when of course you need to press X or the arrows to navigate the menu, i enjoyed the introduction video and then was finally my time to start playing. I can clearly remember that I was trying to use the arrows to move Spiderman but it wasn't working. I was stuck on the very first moments of the game, so excited about playing it and I didn't know what to do. After a really long time for a child, (30 minutes was like 3 days) I tried to use the stick and it worked! The funny thing is that I used to believe that was some sort of speaker for the game audio. End. I can almost hear the sensation of put the UMD on the PSP. Thank you man, great video!
Awww, that was adorable!! 😂 Sounds a lot like when I played my first Spiderman game and I didn't know what the heck to do but I was so freaking excited anyway😅
I was thinking the same thing. That phone was pretty cool. Not very good compared to the others that were coming out at the time, but then again Sony didn't really know whether to make it a console that had phone abilities or a phone that had real games and not just apps. But hey, at least they stuck with it and set now have the new Xperia lines coming out that can stream the ps4 to them. Albeit not all the Xperia can, but those that do are pretty rad.
If it had Regular SD card Support and more AAA Games i'd be a beloved handheld, i remember wasting money on this shit and having a total of 8 games to play.
@@Chris.in.taiwan what do you mean with "dead"? Sony doesn't care about it and there are only a few games coming out for it these days. For me it's the best time the console ever had because of the hacking scene that brings it to a new level of entertainment/enjoyment.
Sony put their major titles like killzone and uncharted on vita but it does lack AAA support from 3rd parties such as GTA(psp highest seller). I have had a vita since launch and had 8 games by the 2nd year. I keep my most played games on the 64gb memory card which is 14 games and for the most part enjoy them more than what I had on psp though I do miss GTA and tony hawk as I missed ninja gaiden in the psp era
The original PSP is WONDERFUL. Still to this day. I always bring mine during long flights. What's cool is that you can even charge the original model with an AC to USB cable since most usb connections in flight are 5V.
@NiGHTSaturn OK Nice !!!!! I'm Looking to move to a new Country Soon And My Ps Vita Is Definitely Coming With Me ! ...You Should Consider Getting One It Can Do Everything Psp Can And More Its Really Underrated
I'm a Proud Owner Of The Glories PSP-3000, but I don't mind upgrading my Experience to The Underdog PS Vita, which is a Device I appreciate & Value so much, Anyway One of the Best Memories with The PSP would be Me Hooked out with the Retro & unique game "Super Collapse" it's a Super fun & admirable game... totally recommend it to whoever PSP owner seeking some new & Worthwhile Game... PS Vita> PSP because the PS Vita has Vita games and a few of its features plus it also plays PSP games and play better than on a PSP because of dual analog sticks. There was so much potential but there was not enough support for the Vita in North America sadly
interesting wow i just became an adult in my late teenage years when the psp go came out and picked one up back on launch and had no idea about the docking feature until just now why did i not know about that when it first came out? thats very impressive thanks for the content dude
