"You are not going to know what gear you need until you actually get started..." is the the 🔥 'clip out' of the week for me. All I know is Jared's been on a roll lately with getting us content and like McDonalds... I'm Lovin it. 🙌😎
G’day mate, I’ve been using my SM7B direct into the Rodecaster Pro without any issues at all? When I see you are using the “sE Electronics - Dynamite Active in-Line Preamp” I had to check it out… BUT at $220 AUD I’m thinking it’s not a necessity piece of equipment for me needs. Weekly Live broadcasting a Music & Talk-back style show for the past two years All Good 👍🏻
Yeah $220 AUD is a lot. Your audio will be cleaner with a preamp but if you’re happy with your audio, you’re happy, if it ain’t broken, don’t go broke fixing it😂
Awesome space and setup well explained. Thanks for sharing this. I also have the Godox VL-150 and really like that light. Great value and performance. I agree about Ecamm - it is such a great tool, and reduces video recording friction for me by a huge amount. Cheers!
Happy to make a video in the feature in hooking up a mic to the Rodecaster it I don’t use obs, I use Ecamm. If you’re on Mac check it out. It’s amazing.
I would suggest this is THE BEST podcast setup video I have seen, by a mile. Completely awesome. I am starting a podcast and looking at my setup now - this is a massive step forwards for me. Thank you.
@@JaredSpink thanks for this! Also, can you shed some light on the best wifi settings and/or best settings for DSLR camera and Ecamm settings to minimize latency during recordings? Thanks in advance! I recognize the mic delay feature but still seem to be experiencing a lag and I’m running close to 60-70mbps dedicated to my podcast stuff.
I would like to see recommendations for a lightweight, fast setup but professional looking mobile version of podcast lighting equipment that is usable in various locations, without needing to rent from a near shop each time
One thing id mention is that most listeners don't have the proper audio equipment to distinguish from a $400 mic to a $150 option as long as they both are XLR. To hear the very small changes youd have to wear pretty expensive headphones that support the bit rate. The sm7b is the apple of microphones and there are better and cheaper alternatives. One thing i dont like about it is the flimsy XLR connection. also the "mic" portion of the microphone is a $20 unit. Its not worth the $400 price tag and yes audio engineers love it but 99% of the population wont care as in they lack the hardware to actually hear the "full" capabilities of this mic. Better of getting the Rode Pod mic for $100 and a arm for around $50 giving you alot of room to get a audio interface xlr cables and anything else you need. Unless youre recording studio grade audio its a waste of $400 that is better used else where in this hobby. This '"needing the best of everything" is so disingenuous. What makes a good podcast is the content and you. In todays world there are hundreds of avenues to take to get to where you want to be. Also for the people in the comments alot of time they dont have to buy this equipment cause they get sponsored or something else. Ive watched literally over 100 videos on starting a podcast while i wait for my microphone and the most common thing is that the equipment the people are recording on is supplied to them for free. Most of the people who repeat that the SM7b is great mic but dont know why its a great microphone they just repeat what they hear and display it as fact. Yeah its a great microphone if price wasn't a factor but it is and they are far better mics for that price hence the "Apple" of mics. Edit: I said all of this before he talked about the budget option but it still stands as far as buying these "top" tier options and doing proper research on these products. For instance you could get the stream deck which depending on the one you get is well over $200 or you could get the Novation Launchpad and get a grid of 8*8 buttons with 8 pages so you get 512 buttons to map that are also RGB.
Newbie question here. I currently either use a usb mic into my computer or a wireless lav mic connected to my camera. What is the benefit of switching to XLR and the rodecaster pro?
There are a wider array of better mic's that are XLR, and an interface like the rodecaster allows you to manage multiple audio sources like a couple of mics, music, sound effects, audio from an internet call or phone call. Most computers only allow you to hook up one USB mic so if you need multiple mic's that can make things difficult. Though Rode does have a program that allows you to use more than one USB mic but it's only with specific USB mics of theirs. But if you're only using one mic, there are a ton of great options now, even combo mics that are both usb and XLR, that way if you expand your setup, you're future proof. I'd suggest going and checking out @tombuck he has a lot of great videos on the subject.
Thanks for all of the great info. Can you tell me how you attached your brush cable organizer to your desk. Seems to me made for a rack install. My thanks.
How do you have the Freeworld working with the camera, and the camera connected to the computer to work with ECAMM? That's what i'm trying to figure out.
Zoom p4 + behringer xm8500 I'm going to podcast with this setup, but I'm looking for a nice xlr cable. If I change my microphone in the future, I would be very happy if you could suggest a brand that I can continue without having to buy an xlr cable again. Thanks...
Hey, loved your video, am just getting into this field, I wanna ask, what do I need to study to get this easy, 😀 I know I need to study something . Will be very greatful if you get back to me, many thx
That is awesome. I didn’t think it could do that yet. Thought it was only for the URSA. This is the iPad app from BM not the Bluetooth+ for Blackmagic. I have the exact setup you do except for lighting (GVM) and I am currently using my Canon R for the camera because of its autofocus. Would love to move to my BMPCC 6K with EF mount for this as I always intended.
The only bad thing I can see when it comes to ECamm Live is the stutter that happens every 10 to 15 seconds or so, which makes it look like something is wrong with the shutter speed of the camera (picture gets jittery and skips frame). I am assuming this is happening because of the processing it is doing on the fly. Other than that...seems like a robust program if you are rocking MacOS.
Could be a number of things. Lack of processing power from the computer, wrong frame rate/shutter speed between camera and capture card, wrong frame rate setting in ecamm, just to name a few.
@@WHERELEAAT I record direct on the Rodecaster, you can put an micro SD card in it or you can plug your computer into the Rodecaster and use programs like logic or audition or even ecamm if you’re on a Mac.
Do you offset the camera sideways so it is not obscured by the monitor? Looks like your teleprompter is filled up by that thing... Any recommended teleprompter Apps? Nice summary video.
No need to offset with the teleprompter. I’m not using it as a standard teleprompter, I’m mirroring my computer screen to the monitor. But if you need a teleprompter app on your computer, I’d recommend Prompt+.
@@JaredSpink Thanks. I meant it looks like your 7" monitor is sitting right in front of the teleprompter glass, so how does your camera behind it see you?
Thanks for sharing this video. The info is invaluable to say the least 💪. One question I do have is: how are you producing 4k video for your podcast and videos with the ATEM Mini considering it only outputs in 1080p? Are you upscaling somehow in post or recording directly to the camera and then using the timeline from the ATEM and replacing the video from the ATEM with the in-camera 4k recording?
@@JaredSpink Thanks a bunch for the reply! Are you by any chance using Davinci Resolve for the upscaling? Do you happen to have a video on how you do the upscaling yourself? The quality of your video is very clean, which I love. Either way, thanks a bunch for the content and response....new sub here ☺️
@@iamteedoh more the most part I have the feed for my streams and podcast recoded in 4k using ecamm, since it’s a 1080 image going into a 4k recording, it’s being upscaled slight. This is only for the streams and podcast. All my other videos are recorded using the camera in either 4k or 6k.
Yeah that’s not my setup anymore but still, the podcast setup doesn’t have great cable management because I need access to everything to unplug and move things as needed or take it to production shoots. Rest of the office has tons of cable management.
Seems like you have a lot of redundant gear. Both the rode caster and atem don’t seem to be used at all in this video. Seems like just a way to drop a bunch of affiliate links.
Dude you have no idea what you’re talking about. The atem is how I connect the camera to Ecamm and the Rodecaster is how the audio is captured. Don’t like the video, move on and create one yourself then.
@@JaredSpink i do know what I’m talking about because I have the same gear. In the video, you are using multi input gear when you only have single inputs. Seems like overkill. And yes, it’s a shit ton of affiliate links. Plain as day.
@@JaredSpink how do you hook up your external monitor to your laptop while keeping it connected to your dslr? I use a platform similar to ecamm would like to create the same teleprompter set up. I’m unclear about how to actually route the cords properly
I chose the best equipment for me. You can buy cheap and buy multiple times or you can buy once and spend the same or less by getting the right gear the first time.
