Hi everyone, make sure to use the Ray-MMD "TOON" folder for this tutorial. If you use the default Ray-MMD folder, it won't render the materials as toon; instead, it will render them as normal materials. Also, for better focus, assign the PowerDOF Effect to your model's head bone. Sorry to bother but I was wondering if you might know anything about mmd crashing or telling me to update when I try to export the video? I had no issue getting the effects on but for some reason it won't export

@@emiledragalia if your mmd is crashing while you are exporting the video, that means your pc can't handle the operation. Usually if this happens to me, I remove some effects until it won't crash anymore. Sometimes also, effects with a lot of particles like kirakira causes the crash so I decrease the number of particles displayed on the screen. Add one effect at a time and export. If it doesn't crash, add one more effect then export again, etc.

I've tried it without effects and anything other than avi raw crashes it, but using avi raw results in it telling me I don't have mmdxshow dll in data when I do

@@emiledragalia I see. Don't use Avi raw because it is prone to crashes. Use other codecs like utVideo

The model i want to use has optional parts that you can turn on and off with the morphs, but somewhere along this tutorial they get an oultine, even when set to off. Like the material is invisible, but they have an outline

Different model have different results when using toon materials. I suggest experimenting using different materials inside the toon folder until you find something that looks good on your model

As far as I know, you can use other skyboxes but you should set the skybox in the ENVLightMAp tab to skylighting_none.fx which is the default.

hello! i've encountered a problem. when i load the models in and apply the Main.fx they turn black and then once i go to the MaterialMap and apply the material_2.0.fx it works fine but then when i go to apply the toon effect to the face it turns back to black, how do i combat this? (I'm using my own model too)

Have you tried using the model in the tutorial first? I suggest finishing the tutorial using that model first before using your own so we can check whether the problem is your configuration or your models texture

HI, You don't need to download the model in the intro/outro since we are using a different model for the tutorial. If you want to use that model, we need to respect the modeler's rules that only those who can solve the password can use it

@@Suswako it could be that your pc can't handle mmd when its paired with raymmd. Try exporting it as avi and see if the output video is okay even if its laggy inside mmd

Hello! I'm having issues with the skin of the model's face and body skin I'm using not matching. I thought it was the shadow but I don't think it was. I also tried setting the face skin the same to the body skin but it just makes the face skin look darker. I was hoping you knew the answer to this. The "problem" seems to fix itself when I remove main.fx (toon) from the model itself in the Main tab of MMEffect. I'm not quite sure how to match the body's skin and face's skin so I thought you could help. Sorry for asking. Have you encountered this issue?

There are a lot of toon materials in the folder. Use the other toon materials until you find something that works for your model. if its still not matching, you can try using the Editor folder which I discuss in the last chapter of my MMD eye tutorial

You mean the toonDX folder? I tried it and its working. It could be that the file names are corrupted when you extracted the files. Try to use a file extractor that supports Japanese. Its the only dl link for that effect so I don't know any link that has that same effect since beamman removed it from his one drive

Sometimes, MMD can't locate the path to your ray-mmd folder. Change the location of your ray-mmd folder to desktop or downloads folder and try again

Hi, in the beginning of chapter 2(Ray toon config), I just copied the ray-mmd folder and renamed it to ray-mmd toon. Toon Materials don't work properly if you don't use the ray-mmd toon folder since that is where you've change the configuration to toon shading

Are you talking about a specific MMD video that I made? In every mmd video that I made in my channel, I only use the tutorials that I already made. You can further make it realistic by using/editing raymmd materials so maybe I'll make that tutorial later

Apply material_2.0.fx to your model in the materialMap tab. When doing tutorials, I suggest finishing it first using the same model before using your own models so you can have a better idea where it goes wrong

@@koro_57 it happens to me before with Chinese models. Save your work, close MMD, then change the name of your model to English. When you open MMD again those shadows in the models body will be gone

When trying to load the 'ray.fx' file, the following error appears: Failed to load effect file: C₩Users₩taich₩OneDrive₩바탕 화면₩MikuMikuDance₩ray-mmd-1.5.2 toon₩ray.fx shader/PostProcessDiffusion.fxsub(14,19): error X3004: undeclared identifier 'linearizeDepth' In the actual "ray.fx" file, the linearizeDepth function is not declared. Is there a solution for this? I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

could be that mmd can't find ray-mmd's path/location. Put your ray-mmd folder in the Downloads or Desktop folder, restart your pc then try again from scratch.

As far as I know, the water effects available in MMD are only capable of making ripples but not splashes when the model kicks them.

Try the following: 1. Sometimes ray-mmd just don't work properly especially when the order of loading of assets isn't right. Start from scratch again. 2. Change the location of your ray-mmd to the same folder of your mmd or in desktop. 3. It could also be that ray-mmd isn't compatible with your pc. Change the version of your ray-mmd to a lower version like 1.5.1. 4. Make sure you edited the correct parameters in ray.conf 5. Make sure you are loading all of the things from the same ray-mmd folder(for example, in this tutorial, use the ray-mmd "toon" folder that we made. Sometimes, we have 2 ray-mmd folders and can accidentally use other folders

this happens when your file extractor doesn't support Japanese language. It corrupts the file names upon extraction. I suggest using other file extractor like b a n d i z i p

I want to know other effects such as ikpolish, ikclut. and what is the difference between ray-mmd and raycast?

Ikpolish is like ray-mmd but for me, ray-mmd's render seems more realistic and flexible to use. As for ikClut, its just another MMD effect that when you load it, changes the way the render looks like Diffusion7. The reason I'm not making tutorial about those shader is because its redundant since we are using something more powerful than them plus raycast is flexible like for example in this tutorial we convert ray-mmd to toon, combine it with other effects and also we can just play around with the values in the ray controller to achieve whatever look we want. Its like why use another one if you can also achieve it with what you are currently using.

@@theweebdev actually ikclut is a POST effect, which means that it adds onto whatever things you have. so it achieves a different effect than ray-mmd can because it can tweak everything in one go. i use ikclut in ADDITION to ray-mmd/hatoon for color grading. i think that completely discounting it is kinda of, idk, not doing it justice.

Make sure you're using the same folder in all the steps. Sometimes you can accidentally use the ray-mmd folder instead of the ray-mmd toon folder while setting up in mmd

I see. If the stage doesn't look good, try other materials from the toon folder until you find something that looks good for the stage because different model/stage has different effect when applied by toon

At 5:59, when I load the main.fx folder, the model turns completely black. The same is happening to the model. Also, in the MMEffects window, only the "main" tab shows up

Check your MME Material Map tab if material_2.0.fx is applied. If not, apply it manually. If MaterialMap tab isn't showing, that means MMD can't read the location of your ray-mmd folder. Put your ray-mmd folder to the same folder as your MMD or in Desktop

@@theweebdev I've tried putting the RayMMD folder on the same directory as MMD.EXE and on desktop and the MaterialMap tab still doesn't show up. Could it be because I'm not using the x64 version of MMD?

@@rickalbuquerque595 Is your pc 64-bit? Then use 64 bit MMD if not, then what you're using is okay. Put your Ray-MMD folder on Desktop and restart your pc before doing the tutorial from the start. You can also try to download the tar.gz file instead of the .zip file in ray-mmd/releases. If that still doesn't work, then try using a lower version of MMD like 1.5.1

@@theweebdev I've tried both of those solutions and it didn't work. The issue seems to be that when I load the ray.x file, it registers among that list on the left (along with s shadow, light and gravity) instead of applying effects to the model and stage. I also noticed that no effects are assigned to ray.x in the main MME tab. When I try to assign ray.fx, it says "post effect cannot be specified" Could I be missing an extension or something? Back when I installed MMD, I didn't run the DirectX driver because the program seemed to run fine without me doing so (and I assumed it was already installed)

@@rickalbuquerque595 You could be missing something but I'm not sure what it is. Hmmm I think someone in the comments section before said that they removed an extra copy of their ray-mmd folder and then it worked properly after that. Also, have you tried doing my basic raymmd tutorial(not toon) ? Maybe check if it's working when you use normal Ray-MMD so we can narrow the problem

hmm maybe its a problem with your network. I tried 3 different browsers including my mobile and all of them can download the file from the link in the description The Error 1005 “Access denied” message on the browser typically indicates that the server is blocking the connection request sent by the client, resulting in the content not being delivered to the client. This issue commonly arises when the client's IP address is blocked by the host.

I suggest finishing the tutorial first before using other models and stage so you can have a better idea if you made a mistake somewhere along the way
