EDIT: Level Up Your Night Scenes Using Ray-MMD! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6I0WeLygWKs.html Hi everyone, the values I provided is what I usually use but you can experiment after finishing this tutorial like changing some values and see how it affects the render. Also, If you are using the same model as mine in this tutorial, I translated the name of the head bone in english from "Null_41" to "Head" so you can see properly how I selected it. If you've found my tutorials helpful and would like to support my work, consider buying me a coffee on my Ko-fi page ko-fi.com/theweebdev . Your support helps me create more content like this. Thanks for watching my videos, and see you in the next tutorial!
@@CactusChan Woah T-t-thank you very much! I try to make my videos as informative and entertaining as possible so I can spread my knowledge to beginners because I know the feeling of start out and getting confused what to do
nice, I'll try it out in one of my videos as soon as possible. oh yeah Night Scenes and possibly also Stroboscope Disco (dark interiors with fast disco lights) as well as creepy light moods would be a nice addition :)
@@theweebdev and if you can someday. Please explain the setup for GodRay. but possibly also differences from all the "Time of" Skyboxes. It seems like the normal "Time of Day" would be more computationally intensive. It's mentioned in some tutorials, but just loading it into the EnvLight map breaks MMD.
Hey man ty so much for the video some tips that you mentioned I have found them myself by literally years experimenting, but thanks to you my videos will look billi billi quality. I am glad to see that the MMD community is quicking back on youtube because it was dying out.
You're welcome. I'll make more beginner friendly tutorials for the community to make it lively again. Next tutorial is about using vfx and I'll be using around 60 effects which I hope will help the community create even better videos
@@animeturnMMD Ah let me think how I can translate my process to a video. I think it will be more about my thought process and principles I use like color theory rather than focusing on the technical side of mmd
@@theweebdev of course that would be nice too, but I was thinking about compression, Codecs and those things, at the begining I lost hours of work because I used bad controlers which either didn't rendered shit or rendered a video file so heavy that mi pc was unable to open it or use it later, no matter how well someone can be at putting everything together if you can't properly render the video you are screwed.
When it comes to exporting the video, there's nothing special that I do. I only use utVideo codec that I got from learnmmd website and render at 60fps.
Thank you so much for this well guided tutorial! Really appreciate your hard work, please keep up this good work! Hope to see lot more tutorials like this in the future.
hey great tutorial! using sparkly particle effects is a lot of fun haha but as an additional note! when modifying the ray.conf file, you don't have to close your program! after you modify and save the conf file, you can click on the Reload All button on the MMEffect tab and it'll do the same thing as opening and closing the mmd save file. (jargon warning lmao) it forces the program to reread the files added, making changes to config files a WHOLE lot easier ^^ but yeah thought i'd drop this in! thanks for the tutorial, and good luck on everyone's raycast journey!!
With patience, I managed to reach the end of this video. Thank you so much, I did 2 videos of yours yesterday and now did this one and I'll be ready to watch the next level up video tomorrow. You're so helpful and I subscribed.
This was so helpful!! I have one question though... Is there a way to change the intesity of the backgroud blur that you see when you zoom into the charater?
You can play around with the ray_controller and change some values like focal length, focal distance, etc. You can try using effects like msEdgeBlending and see if it solves the problem since it sharpens edges
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I've been using KiraKira and Ray for so long now and never knew I could do this! I'm definitely going to use it for the next video I make! Just one question, I know Ray is connected to a certain model's head so it works great with one model, does it work with multiple as well? If not, is there a way that could make it work? I often use more than one model in a video so it's something I need to keep in mind. Anyways, this tutorial was great, clear and concise and I thank you again for sharing this info 💕
You're welcome! I haven't tried to use this technique on multiple models so I'm not sure but since you are going to assign it to only one model, it might make the other models blurred. I'm thinking maybe loading ray.x for each model? I know it sounds weird but it won't hurt to give it a try haha I'll try to experiment to see if there's a way to do it
@@RenataRengoku5941 It's probably not the best fix possible, but right now I'm doing it as the tutorial suggests, and whoever is the character/model I want to focus on (usually whoever is in front) will be the model I connect Raycast to. If/when the camera changes to focus on another character, I switch the model that Raycast is connected to. So say Model A is the focus on frame 0, I will set Raycast up to be connected to Model A. However, at frame 300 the camera focuses on Model B. So at frame 300, I set up Raycast to connect to Model B. I do this for any time the camera switches focus. It's a little time consuming, but the character I want will always be in focus. From what I know there's no way to focus on more than one at a time, just switch the focus around. I hope this helps a bit 💕
Wow, amazing tutorial!! I really enjoy watching these tutorials you make, they are well edited and very easy to follow! Fantastic work! I'm already looking forward to the next video, but take your time. 😃
I would love to learn how to set up night scences, I have used Ray for 1 month and I still haven't got to make a proper night stage. The models are either too dark or the environment is just too lame. Anyways, great tutorials ! You have earned my sub.
Go for it! I use kirakira a lot in my videos but I also try to think if it fits the theme of the scene. Mostly night scenes suits the best for kirakira
It work very well until i'm starting use Kirakira with toon, after activated toon in ray config the partical look weird, the object's halo including the light reflected on its surface, breaks into tiny square particles. Can you pls show me how to fix this?
yea, wanted to ask quick questions, if the models are for somewhat 'furry/ scaly' ones, what kind of effects and materials are better for them? read through and doing some mix and match, seems it is still somewhat lacking for the effects desired.
For that you have to find/make a normal map especially made for furry materials. If don't know how to make/add a normal map, just go to bowroll or deviantart and search for furry materials for mmd
@@theweebdev do you have any recommendations for that? So far i only found one and there are a lot shaders which i am still unsure which is the best option
@@MilesDillusDixon I haven't used any furry models so I don't know what to recommend other than finding ray-mmd materials with furry properties or you can use blender to make or edit your model's materials so when you open it in MMD the furry materials are already built in to the model
@@theweebdev some might have it (fur textures), if there is a universal shaders might be convenient - then to match them as i am still considered as somewhat amateur with both MMD and blender (only used them for conversion for now)
hello! This tutorial worked very well tysm for making it! My only problem is whenever I open ray.x the background blurs and i dont know how to fix it. This only started happening after I did the kirakira thingy ma bobby.
I followed your tutorial correctly and it works now! Thanks! I've got another question... After I apply the Ray-MMD and set what I need to set in Ray_Controller, my model looks transparent, how to fix this? I tried changing the settings but I still have the same issue.
@@DarkAssassin01 You can load whichever you want to go first. I personally load the model first because when I'm making a MMD video, I don't know what stage looks good with the model at first.
Thank you bro!!! I have learned a lot in your tutorial! Looking forward to see your next tutorial! And,, bro🥹🥹😭can I have the falling zero and one kirakira effect?? I can’t find it on the website🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹plspls
Bro sorry for the late reply. I didn't see your comment because it was flagged as spam by RU-vid and just saw it today in my Held for Review section. Give me a minute and I'll find the link for that.
Can't find it as well. I read the readme file and there's no mention of the name of the one that made it. It only says that it was a modification of Takobuto's snow effect. Sorry bro. If I find it again somewhere , I'll comment here. Here's the only thing that i saw that looks close: bowlroll.net/file/296886
I got a question. After I set BOKEH from 0 to 1 and then re-open MMD, my model's head language has change and the kirakira sparkle still looks the same. What am I missing?
Ah its just a glitch. Sometimes MMD uses "null" as the name when there's no English translation but sometimes it uses the Japanese name instead. As for the kirakira not changing, check your ray_controller because you might have not saved the changes. Also, sometimes you accidentally changed a different parameter for example, you changed focal length+ instead of focal length-
So I did have a question which is, if you have more than one model how do you apply the blurring effect so that both models receive the foal point effect?
I don't think its is possible with multiple models using this method. What others are doing is focusing one model at a time by changing the assignment of ray.x to models you want the focus on each scene. You can check the comments section if you want further details because some people are discussing this
Thank you for amazing tutorials! It's really help me out a lot! I have one question how we use motion blur cuz every time I use it goses to the model instead.
Thanks! Same as Diffusion7, you just have to load it in accessory manipulation. If you want the effect to be seen better, you change it's Si to a higher value. Wdym by it goes to the model?
@@sarukasaki5870 I see. You just have to adjust Si if its too blurry. A quick tip is when you render the video into AVI, the blur is much lesser compared when you are using the effect inside MMD so adjust accordingly.
Quick question: if I want to disable the blurr effect, do I have to go to the .CONF file and change the "BOKEH Quality" value from 1 to 0 every time? Also, can I control how intense the blurr is or is it always the same?
Yes you need to return the value to 0 to remove the blurr effect. If you want to adjust the blurr, you need to adjust the values in ray_controller like focal distance, length etc until you get what distance you want the blurr to appear
Any reason why the controller settings just do not save? No matter how many times I click register it continues to look the same way with a ton of particles like when first loading in
I haven't used MMD for a few years and just started again, found your tutorial and all, love it! Tho, like I said i haven't been using MMD in a long while so I have forgot a lot of things. So rn I have a problem 😅 idk what I did do wrong but when I followed everything u said and did, when it came to the time to close down the client to then open it again ( 4:50 ) , yeah it don't work for me. Like I said I don't know if I did someting wrong or what but when I was gonna open the client again It won't open. I just get a " Cannot open the model file" message. Like i don't wanna start over if possible incase it happen again. Sooo do anyone know how to fix it? or like knows whats wrong or what I did do wrong
" Cannot open the model file" means MMD can't locate the path to the model you used. This usually happens when your model's name/folder is written in chinese. Rename your model and folder to english.
You mean you want the sky hemisphere to emit purple environment light instead of the default one? For that you just need to go to ray_controller and change the values of BalanceB+ and BalanceR+ to make the scene color purple(For example, set both value to 0.6)
That means your pc can't handle the process. You can decrease the number of kirakira particles to make it less laggy using it's controller but if it's still laggy, you need to upgrade your pc
@@URS-fe5pu if you can handle a little lag and still able to work, the good news is, when you render/export the video later, there is no lag. I sometimes make a mmd video even if its laggy because I use a lot of effects but when I render it, the video created runs smoothly
you only need to use one ray.x and switch it to different models you want to focus. I suggest checking the comments section because someone asked this before
You can only focus one model at a time. Others change the attachment of ray.x to shift the focus from model to model. You can read how they do it in the comments section of his video
I followed the raymmd tutorial and then this one. When I closed MMD and loaded it back up after changing ray conf it gives me error failed to load effect file: ray-mmd-1.5.2 ay.fx and Error: failed to open file: ./Fog/GroundFog/ground_fog.fx (parameter: FogMap) and all the lighting in the mmd has disappeared. Any tips for recovering my project?
ended up redo-ing it and it just worked next time, I left bokeh quality to 1 and didn't restart mmd. maybe it was that, or that mmd wasn't on my primary monitor the first time through
Will you do a tutorial for models that when extracted don't look like the model as seen, since I've downloaded a few models like the Miku one on the last tutorial, instead of looking like the model in the picture has that glow and missing textures how do I fix that?
I haven't experience a lot of model texture problems so far so I don't think I qualify to make a tutorial for that. For missing textures, I normally just change the files names to english when it is written in chinese and seems to solve the problem. Sometimes, I open the model in the PMX Editor and check if the textures match in the specific part(for example, I check in pmx editor if the eyes and the texture assigned to it is correct). Have you tried opening the model in the pmx editor and see if its the same appearance as the picture where you downloaded it? If its the same, it means the problem is how you render it in MMD. If it doesn't look right in the PMX Editor, it means the texture is the problem itself.
Thanks for this. I'm going to use this as well. The name seems okay to me. Seems like RU-vid hate that word because it deletes that extractor's name completely without being registered in my "Held for Review"
what copy? You mean the software MMD or the effects? If you are talking about the MMD software, Its been a year so I don't know the exact link where I download it but its in the website named learnmmd
@theweebdev I love your tutorials since they are very helpful as well as entertaining. I was able to learn how to use ray mmd in a few days however I have a question/problem. After finishing making my mmd video I tried exporting it however it wouldn't work and the program crashed several times. I tried to disable some effects and stuff but that didn't help either. I tired looking online for a solution but found nothing. The frame rate is super slow and laggy and it won't convert to a avi file. Can you please help me?
That means your PC can't handle the render with those effects. Kirakira mainly causes this crash/lag because of too many particles. One solution would be lowering the screen resolution when rendering like for example render it in 480p instead of 1080p and see how it goes. Also, I encountered crashes before with some kirakira effects that I used and what I did was lowering the Si in the accessory manipulation by 0.7 or lower until it stops crashing. You'll know if lowering the Si is working when every time you lower the value, the longer the rendering last before it crash like for example start with Si 0.7 and if it crashes at frame 1000 lower it to 0.6 and next render it crashes at frame 2000. Do this until there are no more crashes. Lastly, I remembered, the kirakira controller in this tutorial has " Number of Particles" unlike the other kirakira I've used before with no controller so instead of changing the Si, try changing the number of particles in the controller first and lower the number of particles
@@xionmeow1794 So the problem here I think is that your PC can't handle the process of rendering the MMD video. What codec do you use when rendering the video? I use UtVideo
The finel step didn't work for me the kirakira effect didn't turn to hexagonal shape and the background is not bluer when I zoom the camera to modal I followed each step and changed the 0 to 1 in the note. can you help me
Did you close MMD before changing the value to 1? You might be changing something different. Changing BOKEH to 1 will automatically blur the scene once you open MMD again after changing ray.conf provided you made the changes in ray_controller.pmx
@midou1088 then I really don't know what to say bro sorry its very clear in the tutorial how it should be done there's no other steps to make it. Try changing the location of your ray-mmd folder to the same folder of your MMD then repeat the tutorial from the start and see how it goes. Double check your ray_controller.pmx if you changed the right parameter because sometimes we adjust + instead of - slider and vice versa. Also be sure you register each changes
Tbh its my first time hearing it and I tried to search it and RU-vid giving me information about Corona when I typed it so its scaring me to make one because the algorithm might be confused and give me the wrong audience thinking my channel is about corona instead of MMD
Make sure you save the changes in ray.conf and also check if you changed and registered the correct parameters in ray_controller like for example you might have changed Focal length+ instead of FocalLength-
Im having issues with the Hexagonal shapes not showing up for me the kirakira Colors still looks the same even following the config from the video idk if its my seetings on my Ray Config or just my PC
Check the values you put in the Ray controller. It could be that you change some values that should be the other opposite one like for example FStop+ was changed instead of FStop-. Also check if Measurement Mode and other values are Registered. You'll know it's working when you open MMD again after changing BOKEH to 1 and the surrounding area is blur while only the model is displayed clearly when you zoom in.
@@theweebdev Im having issues where I dont see much of a change when i zoom in I just redownloaded raycast to reset all the settings to default and imma follow this video again see if it was just me changing settings because I was trying to make Raycast look a bit better but im still new with it EDIT: YAY I FIXED IT
@@theweebdev Hehe you have no idea how much this changed how I use Raycast now if only I could find something useful about using Toon Shader on Raycast
@@MsZyraMMD I could make one later. I'm making time of day tutorial next but if I found a way to make a toon shader on raycast easy to make, I'll add it as a bonus chapter at the end. If not, I'll just make a separate tutorial for it
@@theweebdevhange question because don’t rlly mind to the other,is there a method to see bone name? I can’t find the head bone bc of names(or if you could pls tell me the head bone name of the model of your video “beat eater” because I’m using that model[miku cafe music])
@@Anna.6lv1 If you want to see the name of the bones since MMD can't display it in sometimes when its name is in japanese, you can use pmx editor to locate the bone and rename it so when you load it again in MMD, you can easily identify it. As for the model that you are using, it should be either in 8th or 9th position counting from the top when you select the target bone
I CLOSED mmd and then it just crashes when i load the saved file lmaooo *sobs* prolly something wrong on my end.. welp time to do it again EDIT: thank you
Someone said that you can reload the scene without closing MMD. After you change ray.conf, click on MME -> Reload All. Tried this but its loading forever on my part so I just close MMD and open it again because its faster.might better on your pc
@@theweebdev thanks will try :3. Edit : if I may ask , when I have a solid color black ground, when I try the ray main and add material 2.0 to the model, there's a cutout of the contour of the model and it's all very blur and even if i remove the material it doesn't go away...know anything?
@@BATMAN10N yeah I tackled that in the last section of my ray-mmd time of day tutorial. Simply uncheck the model in every effects tab after the materialmap tab and the contour will go away. It's the other effects that you use which are affecting the rendering of the model so you have to uncheck it on those tabs
