I am one of the few that gets excited when I catch a Gar although they are a pain to deal with! Me and a buddy landed a couple in my boat below that same dam along with a nice Catfish! Maybe even on the same night haha! 18:45 very cool!

Yes I catfish. The biggest I have caught is 83 lbs back in 1976 flathead and caught a 54 lb blue in 1984 and I have not caught anything over 40 lbs since then, got bunch of 15 - 30 cats in the last few years. I’m still looking for that 100 lb kitty that’s my goal
I've been fishing at Watts Bar within 15 or so yards of where you were...only of the mornings after work. All I can catch has been white bass and smallmouth bass on foley spoons. 1 lonesome blue cat on a white bass head. It sucks only having bank access to the lock side.
I get your frustration with Gar. I would have wanted to get that Gar mounted. I have been dreaming of catching one for 50 years. I think you changed my dream to catching a Monster Catfish.
Yes catfish Dave guard can be relentless when they are biting for sure I hate those crazy big but I'm glad to see someone got their revenge on GAR awesome video game can't wait to your next one
I had never hooked up on one till this season and some how I have landed 9 gar in two months. I fish the Ohio River and caught my biggest blue Saturday along with another gar.
I knew there was more to you Dave than just catching a catfish. I used to net fish when it was legal back in the day. Gar was a netters worst nightmare. I caught so many one night, you couldn't stand in the bottom of my boat. I hate Gar. I really enjoy your videos, because there is never a dull moment.
Tin snips are good to get the armor off gar you were in the north part of my fishing waters.I've found when the gar are running catfish ain't gonna bite I've wasted many hrs trying to catfish while gar was around hoping I'd get lucky lol
Years ago Texas Parks & Wildlife or maybe it was their predecessor Texas Game & Fish Commission, had good sense about gars and published the story that gar livers were the best catfish bait. This has been reversed to try to protect the alligator gar.
Those guys interrupt every kind of "bait" fishing at my local lake; especially in the summer. I don't hate to catch them, but they do mangle a lot of bait! Delicious to eat, that's how we get 'em back, but, your way is a lot more ironic and funny! Good show brother!
Way to hang in there Dave!👍up here in Philly, turtles harass us river fishermen! I have stopped going to one of my spots. It is a very convenient place to fish. You can sit in truck if it rains, etc. Therefore, it is a very heavily fished spot . And from all those people conveniently fishing are constantly throwing that Chum out, that spot has become a turtle Haven!😂 I have other spots that I like much better. I would rather do a little walking and Fish by myself than to be crammed in with the turtle man!😂tight lines! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!👍

This is great, here in Arkansas gar are an epidemic. Caught 2 babies about 7" long in my cast net and was gonna put them in the aquarium with my turtles. Well they died in transit and for the first time in my life I wondered if they'd make good catfish bait. So I put them in the freezer. Where they still are.
When I was Kid there use to be so many Blue Gills in the creek My Family fished regularly that we just threw them over our heads back on the banks.... They were so small 4 to 5 inchers and steal your bait...Oh boy, oh boy!!!! In any given fishing trip w, 4 to 5 of us, might plant 20 to 30 Blue Gills on the bank!!!!
I love catching gar but they are a pia to hook... When I do get hooked up with one I wear it completely out before bringing it in... I make it jump, then I lay back and let it relax then pull like heck to make it fight... Sometimes I reel em all the way in and leave them on the hook and cast em out again just to be sure I get all the fight out of em. Goofey old gar. You did good Dave, it's a video, there are fish in the video... Should have taken that meat home and cooked it. It's delicious.
Here in my river I have caught gar way over 100 pounds and use cut gar for bait all the time, my last 2 big pre spawn cats were caught on cut gar and here they sell buffalo and gar in the grocery stores so in a pinch I can go 2 blocks from the house buy a couple pounds of gar or buffalo, drive 4 miles to the river and I am catfishing.
I have caught a bunch of long nose gar on jugs fishing for channel cats. They are a pain to clean (as you can see) but they are actually pretty good to eat. Take that meat and batter and fry it. It's better than a lot of other fish I've eaten.
Lol I had a feeling that's what your were gonna do. After having a similar night once I did the same thing. Caught a gar,hopefully he was the same one that was pecking at my bait all night,chunked him up and ended up catching a 39# Blue.
Bwhahaha I remember many a night fishing for catfish and having those POS rob me of my bait. I never let a one back in the water if I caught one. I haven't got far enough into your videos yet but have you done one on turtles robbing you yet? LOL
Do you ever think about doin a special series were you fish other river systems? I know you gotta life , but maybe go outta state and do a challenge fishing another river.
Alligator gar are actually protected in Tennessee, your not allowed to kill them. Catch and release only. I didn't know this until I looked up the regulations tonight after catching one. I don't know if they were regulated at the making of this video, but they are now for sure. probably due to that one you just killed.
We hate Gar, Dam things pulled my boys stringer of fish for lunch off the bank while we were securing the boat, we went mid evil on the bastards and ate them for lunch, 15yrs ago at Northbend Park Kerr Lake va.
