I know you don't harvest many fish, but those winter flathead are some seriously good eats. Love how you helped that guy out, that's what fishing is about... the catfish gods will smile on you for it.
Great video Dave. Ready to be the first to take you out on a boat in North Guntersville :) Once we catch some bait, and get away from the dock, it is all catfishing. Same concepts apply, but not as many distractions.
Giving up on the catfish for catfish? I couldn't believe the fish you were catching on it. I'll be giving it a shot this year! Thanks for the videos always a good time watching. Good luck out there!
I'm inspired by you sir. & Have committed to leaving the boat home and doing some bank fishin. I even got the lady friend a nice foldup chair with a rod holder for Christmas. Keep em coming Dave. Merry Christmas to all my brutha catters.
That was cool you helping that dude throw that cast net, they’re frustrating trying to learn. You got the best info and tips on RU-vid, thanks for passing it along.
Awesome video Dave! No skipjack for me either. I threw some white bass and bluegill for bait the other night and caught some small Blues. Ran out of fresh fish and resorted to chicken breast chunks and caught the biggest 2 of the night on it. I think it's just about putting bait out there and putting in the time.
Thank you catfish Dave for that information I think the longest ride that I have might be 7 foot 2 and I have a big baitcaster but I want me at least a 10-foot rod to use use the baitcaster on I think I could get a lot more distance prom that real if I had a longer ride thank you for the information and I love your videos by the way my son was the one that turn me over and told me to check out your videos and I'm glad I did thank you for the past videos and for future upcoming videos I love them all have a great and blessed day
UNTIL I STARTED WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS I USE TO THROW TROSE BIGGEST GIZZARD SHADS I'D THROW BACK NOT SINCE I STARTED WATCHING YOU NOW YOU KNOW WHAT I DO LOL THANKS DAVE LOVE YOUR VIDEOS DAVE
I don't do trophy fishing to be honest. I fish for food, and using chicken liver from walmart is the best way to pull in quantity of good eating size catfish. like you said we catch the occasional trophy but we always just let them go, they don't taste as good anyways.
I cant find a spot with as many bait fish at one time as you do man I've seen you pull in tuns of fish in your net of all different kind i cant seem to find a honey hole like that i love to see you throw that 8 foot bait buster and pull in a huge haul thats what made me start using a 8ft net...Good Video Dave👍
He lives in a place that has good micobiodiversity(i think thats the word) its the stuff shad eat. some places like the place I live near don't have very good micros for baitfish to eat so the numbers are limited.
That's sad especially for the holidays, I remember old girlfriends would call during Christmas holidays just wanting somebody to talk to so I did as once upon a time I was in their shoes. (alone & depressed)
I feel you on that. I live new a lake in Texas called canyon lake. It doesn't have a whole lot in the way of baitfish besides bluegill and a low population of shad. most the time we use chicken liver and when we cut open the bellies of the fish they are usually just full of zebra muscles. our lake doesn't have a good biomass to support large amounts of bait fish so it's actually easier to use chicken liver or shrimp.
shiroikin fished their before. I was at an Air Force recreation camp on the lake and caught a bass and saw tons of bass. Never saw a catfish and I think I saw some type of striper/hybrid striper. Beautiful lake but the fishing was meh.
Great Video Brother!! Is great to see that You are a Nice Friendly Guy :) I loved the Slow motion! You can’t go wrong by giving the Fish what They are eating, Right?
How's it going Dave? Nice winter flat! Have you been to the new Deluth trading store here in Knoxville? If not you should check it out. Pretty neat stuff. Definitely the place if you're in need of something warm to wear or a really nice flannel. They have stuff for the lady friends too. The greeter there told me that this store broke the record out of all their stores ever on opening day. Have a good one and Merry Christmas :)
Another good video Dave. Couple nice fish. Good of you to take the time to show the guy how to throw the cast net even if it didn't sink in to him by the looks of his throw. JK It does take practice he will catch on. Now what was your video about again? ;-)
catch and freeze a lot of frogs and crawfish, its super baits... always an good backup, just make sure you wipe the frog off with a rag before you cast it out to get rid of the slime.
i always tried to imagine the moment a blue cat eating a skipjack. A skipjact can swim 500 mph. An athletic Blue cat can do about 5mph downcurrent. How can it ever catch a skipjack??
Wow catfish Dave your video is super clear. Did you get a new camera? It looks like 8k, maybe it's the daylight?? Anyway watching you from Sacramento California. Love your channel, thanks for the videos.
Dave. Great videos man. What about baby shad . Could that be why I am not targeting bigger cats in general? I'm in ohio north east. We dont have blue cats enless we head to the Ohio river. But I do catch 8lbs channels. I guess. I will have to catch bigger shad in our reservoir to get the bigger cats? I should try blue gills. Cut them up into 3 sections. I will have to try that. Love your videos.
Hey Dave, i've only got 2 years under my belt bank fishing the MO and Mississippi. Where do you target these guys in the winter? Drop offs near the current?
I doubt it. Dave's a no nonsense kind of while Gene can be a little too animated and off beat. I like both, but they definitely have major contrasting styles.
@@atticus0715 lol... I'm not saying for them to move in together...I'm just saying make (one) video together. Lol man...they would get soooo many views on that (one) video. And boost both of their subscribers!
Out in Oregon we catch sturgeon wish I lived in Tennessee I would love to catch some big flathead's I got a video on my channel of me catching a sturgeon off the bank
Hey Dave I don't know if you use it or not but the NAVIONICS app will help you find the best spots and show the drop offs the ledges and all you should check it out it's a game changer when your looking for certain spots to fish
Okay Dave thanks for the info I'll have to remember that I don't know what the catfish here in Georgia what they prefer but imagine shad and a crappie would rank up bar probably even a flat Bass but catching white bass here is it's very very seldom but I do have a question your rods that you use fishing from the bank what is the Lent on the rod I've seen people cast and not get the distance that you get and that has intrigued me to won't use longer rods so what is the length of yours please thank you sir have a great day by the way love the blue cat Flathead is okay but I love the blue cat
So I am going to try fishing my local lake not know for cat fishing there is bull catfish should I just fish the deepest holes I can find? My bait will be local sunfish and maybe some bacon or earthworms? Great vid!!!!
@@raaalph1705 whole kernal sweet corn is well loved by almost everything that swims. I used to tuck a small plastic bag of the stuff along with some size 6 & 8 hooks and 1/8 and 1/4oz slip sinkers and some number seven swivels all in a small compartmented plastic box tucked into my pocket grab an ultralight or light rod and wade fish creeks. Always a surprise when i set set those hooks. Some small plastics rounded the tackle out. Everything from chain pickeral and small tiger muskies to several species of bass and sunfish catfish carp turtles ... You just never knew. It was a ton of fun. Cory take some small slip bobbers and bobber stops too. Since it's a lake you may have to keep your bait out of the submerged folliage. If you don't kin slip bobber rigs watch some RU-vid vids richardgenethefishingmachine has some great ones. Slip bobbers are great lake rigs. Don't know what kind of rods you have but if you can a medium power rod and something lighter too. A medium power medium/medium fast action is good for throwing corn and worms on 6 or 8 lb line. Properly rigged even 10 lb line works.
