In this video we go over what I think is the "ultimate workbench" for a small workshop. I discuss the features, functionality, and then give it an upgrade. This workbench is complete with a huge work surface, dust collection, hardware storage, auxiliary power, and tool storage. If you are looking to level-up your workshop, consider building a workbench like this one!
I actually have a build series documenting this workbench construction. WARNING - I was new to RU-vid and video editing so the audio balancing is not spectacular - but the content is great! That playlist can be found here - bit.ly/2TgrxTz

Love the videos! Has turned into one of my top channels to watch. I'm in the process of finishing my garage and will be modeling my wall cabinets after your design. I definitely cannot wait to see more work from you. One idea to consider, is heading to Harbor Freight and picking up a rolling mechanic/detailer seat for under $20. It'll be a lot more comfortable sanding or doing any low work than sitting or on your knees.

I've been going back and forth on how big to make my out-feed/assembly table. At first I thought, "4x8 is perfect because it's easy." And then I waffled around making it smaller. I think you've convinced me to go with 4x8. I have more than enough space in my new shop, so I don't really have a reason to go smaller.

I make my shop benches and furniture as good as I make my projects. Some people are ok with just raw 2x4 and plywood benches with exposed screws and stuff. All my drawers are dovetailed or box jointed. All my cabinet faces are routed and look professional. It gives me inspiration and makes me feel like I’m doing something good with projects. I can’t stand messy cluttered shops. Yours is inspiring for me. I think I may take a week and redo somethings this new year in my shop 👍🏻

Great update to the original build, which I saw a (long ?) while back. The painted version takes it to the next level. I definitely like some of the features in the "all in one" concept, but I have a larger shop (both good and bad!) and will keep the 2 HP, 2 stage DC tucked away separately up on the walls. Your setup still has possibilities for me done the road, though. With regards to your built in DC, I see you have the auto switch and three blast gates, but where does the air exit the cabinet after coming out of the filter? I must have missed a detail. Keep up the good work. Just subbed.

It would have been good if you had explained why you were sanding because you did not need to sand that stain to be able to paint. The only reason to sand was if you just wanted it super smooth, but if you wanted it super smooth, you should have primed it, then sanded, then painted.

Good table build and how you intergraded everything in to it. However, I suggest you switch your blast gates and electrical outlets. Outlets above your blast gates, and turn you blast gates 180 (open and close from the bottom, not the top.) You will see what I mean if you really take a look at your blast gates and see how the operate. Thumbs up!
@mitchellepps4740
@mitchellepps4740 3 года назад
I’m curious. Why the changes you suggest?
@countrymagic61
@countrymagic61 3 года назад
With humble respect. I mentioned the purpose of the blast gates in the earlier post. Please re-read. As far as switching the gates and the outlets is more for convivence and the hose would not be in the way of the outlets and anything plugged in to them. It was a suggestion, just a thought. No more, no less.

I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ru-vid.comUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

Audio still isn't the best. There is a lot of echo going on. perhaps some soundproofing squares or even packing blankets work well. John Holtz had the same problem, so maybe you should check that video of his channel to get some ideas. Alex Steel hung flags up and home-made soundproofing panels to his new shop here in the states. Both men are very talented within their fields of work too. The workbench is great. I am going to make one for my shop and you gave me some good ideas. One thing that is a must is storage for the plainer and bench-top jointer. Both will sit down inside on a platform. Each platform has an RV leveling jack under the platform. When I want to use them, I just remove the section of the bench above each tool, install an adaptor I bought for my cordless drill, attach the adapter to the bar on the leveling jack that when turned it will raise tool upwards. Stopping so the bed of the tool is even with the workbench top. When I'm done with each tool I do the same thing except in reverse. And like your bench, drawers will be installed on the opposite side. The top-section of that side of the table will have a large 15" deep drawer for my hand tools such as the chisels and hand planes as well as hand-sanding blocks. I'm not sure if I want the power hand sanders in that drawer or create other deep drawers under the 15" deep drawer. I was thinking of installing the air compressor in behind a door. For now, it stays in the outside "closet" that houses the dust collector on the back-side of my shop. I already have it plumbed with the hose that travels in a PVC pipe just under the 4" pipe for the dust collector. I also have a reel in the rafters that carries the airline down to me along next to the extension cord reel. One of the things I wish I had done was to install a floor outlet under or in the workbench. Maybe I can still do in and just cut a channel into the floor so I can run a wire from one of the outlets to the workbench. You inspired this conversation that you didn't start, lol. Sorry about the novel, lol. Oh and I subscribed too.
