All they did was look for singers that sound like Steve. He'll never go back, don't blame him.

Cain is full of himself. I read that GQ interview with Steve Perry, and it was very eye-opening and heartbreaking 💔. But I also hate that the title of the interview was "Foolish, Foolish Throat." What the heck was he insinuating? The dope! 😠

Yes. Totally agree. Dumb title.

Not very nice comments 🤔 Everyone has their story,, no different from people that are not in the public eye. Journey was/is a great band and they all, were great together.

I have to put a put a public comment on this and not just a reply: A guy named Skinner posted that Steve Perry was full of 'crap' about "For the Love of Strange Medicine" being his second solo album. Skinner says "technically" it's Steve's third and that interviewers let Steve get away with it. In fact, FTLOSM was Steve's second RELEASED album! "If ya don't know, now you know." I guess interviewers should make sure Steve makes that distinction. 🙄 Steve doesn't always mention the other bands he was in before Journey, either. Does that mean he's lying? 🙄

Even though his words are his own, technically Douglas has a point... I know you've already read the interview Tammy, but as a reminder, here's the disputed passage: " Perry: _I didn’t want to leave the group, for Christ’s sake! I worked my whole frickin’ life to get to this point with these guys! We all put our lives and sweat and blood and tears into this thing. But it seemed like, for my life, to save it, I had to stop and get out. I know that sounds intense, but I had to take care of myself. It wasn’t easy to walk out, but I had to do it._ Pappademas: _You made _*_a couple_*_ of solo records after that._ Perrry: *_Way after that. Way after._*_ I think the last show, was at the end of January, ’87. I was back in my house February 1st-I’ll never forget that date. Home alone and going “Now what?” Knowing it was over. _*_My first solo thing, I think, was maybe six, seven years later. ’94. Yeah. That’s right._*_ Yeah, I ran right out there. [laughs] I think I needed some time off, what do you think?_ " Between February 1987 and early 1988 (the time when Steve relaunched his Against the Wall project, started right after Street Talk in 1985 but quickly put on standby because of his return to the band for Freedom/ROR), this is a far cry from the "6-7 years" of radio silence... So either the journalist cut the part where SP talked about this unreleased album, or we are dealing with what I would call a *lie by omission, as if he was trying to justify his departure right in the middle of the ROR tour...* (personally, I think that this withdrawal was the right decision for him, but that the merger of Columbia with Sony is perhaps -partially- a pretext to justify the shelving of an almost finished album, whereas Journey, also at Columbia / Sony, were not going to be able to release anything for 10 years because of their forced stop)

Steve Perry was so full of shit in the interview about leaving Journey in 1987. According the liner notes for "Greatest Hits + five Previously Unreleased", which HE wrote, he started working on a second solo album, Against the Wall in January of 1988. It was shelved because the songs weren't consistent in sound. His "second" solo album, For the Love of Strange Medicine, was indeed released in 1994, but it was technically is third solo album. Interviewers and Perry ALWAYS skip over that little nugget, and for obvious reasons, Perry always lets them do it, while fitting his narrative about not wanting to return to music for 7-odd years.

Semantics, dude. Steve's second RELEASED album WAS "For the Love of Strange Medicine." Technically, since the "Against the Wall" album was never released, "FTLOSM" WAS his second album. I have "FTLOSM," and the liner note states: "Due to a change-over that took place when Sony Music bought Columbia Records, ALL the "Against the Wall" CD (as it was to be called) was shelved by a corporate executive and it was never released... SO I guess the bottom line is: My second solo CD was to be called 'Against the Wall.' But now, as bonus tracks, perhaps they should all be called 'Better Late Than Never.'" Facts.
