About this thing being a dream come true; I literally found out about it because of a dream. In the dream I had this box and all these amazing sounds were coming out of it. I looked under the box and there was one word....Icarus. I woke up, googled it and thought I was in a David Lynch film when I realized it was a real thing.....kind of lol

Ich hatte/habe keinen Bock auf Serum, weil es im Harddance-Bereich so ziemlich jeder nutzt. Außerdem unterstütze ich viel lieber ein kleines deutsches Familienunternehmen mit super Support. Was Markus da erschaffen/programmiert hat, ist echt der Hammer. =D
Great Review. The synth looks pretty cool, but because i don't really have money at the moment and allready own Serum, Spire and Phaseplant i dont thing i'm gonna buy it. I really appreciate that you are putting timestamps into the video, makes the user experience way better for rewatching something.
Just sell those other synths you have on KnobCloud. Spire is overhyped. Icarus gets you results faster with higher quality than those other guys, especially plucks and electric guitar sounds and thick, high sonic quality bass, that sounds like OmniSphere if not better and similar to Trilian Bass.

So fun to watch as well, and well deserved praise words to the super talented family of TONE2, who are wonderful, creative and kind persons. I cannot add more about Icarus that has not been said, except something else about its versatility. Many synthesizers seem to be focused on a particular style, and sometimes it is difficult to achieve something that goes beyond the mass commercial approach of electronic techno music EDM and hops, trapesly, wave-table overused obsession and a"beat" every day more boring scene (I have nothing against it, I even manage to get some income from it nowadays) However Icarus 2 offer many more provision potential to produce more than the target 95% "radio hot / top chart" AND these "more" means more interesting possibilities for produce and create more than a lot of radio trash repetitive synth stuff. When the hidden but "visible" potential of Icarus 2 is discovered, you can think ALSO of jazz, fusion, world music, new age, blues, neo waves, symphonic techno, Latin Caribbean jazz, smooth jazz, neo-reggae, Brazilian with total freedom and sure that you will always obtain a sound to produce an unprecedented amalgam of stylistic colors. I finally got Icarus 2 after considerable economic sacrifices and a special solidarity help (thanks M. and T.) I live in a country under a carcinogenic dictatorship where you only live for day-to-day survival. Just installing Icarus 2 and knowing it barely I was able to create a track to test its immediate potential (there is in TONE2 forum) In Markus's own words my demo doesn't sound like anything you "usually hear on European radio", and that was for me a very high praise and at the same time a confirmation from the "father of the child" himself about his wonderful creation. Now Icarus 2 is sharing honors in equal measure alongside my favorite synthesizers also created by great masters of virtual instrument and effects design, a multiple throne where each one demonstrates their own capabilities, potentials and above all "versatility". Thank you TONE 2 for this wonder.
Just discovered Tone2 & Icarus as well as your channel. Sold on pretty much everything Tone 2 makes and will eventually own all their products. When you called it a Serum killer, which I agree, I’m laughed out loud and immediately hit the subscribe button. Excellent review!

EDIT: Read the comments! :) Markus from Tone2 makes great stuff. All his synths have a unique sound. I don't like the GUI design too much but it is understandable, not confusing. What I miss is the possibility to modulate the parameters of the different effects. For example modulating the different bands of the multiband lofi/degrading sound with an LFO or MSEG... missing the exact name of the effect right now.
Personally, I really like the GUI. Everything has it's place and also makes sense for the workflow. Definitely, there are quite a lot of other synths, where you simply can't understand what's going on.
@@generalguyble yes, it is understandable but I don't like the design xD but I think that's a matter of taste. I think I prefer GUI designs that kinda imitate how a Hardware desktop synth would look like.
I generally recommend the 100% Icarus album Atmos Infinity by the Portuguese producer Tatsyn. It is "Space Ambient" music but yet shows greatly what Icarus is capable of. tatsyn.bandcamp.com/album/atmos-infinity-24-bits
I was looking at Tone 2 VSTs because they all seemed cool and i had trial runs of Electra, Nemesis and Gladiator. I had purchased Nemesis and Gladiator and wanted Electra. I saw that Electra and Icarus were both the same price for everything included. The GUI and all the capabilities that Icarus had made me choose Icarus over Electra. I feel so dumb for the GUI part, but that's what grabbed my attention first lol. The moving waves are so cool lol.
There is so many synths out there one can get analysis paralysis. This one was one of my possible choices few years ago. It kinda came out as the Serum killer. I think if Deadmou5 used Icarus a lot everyone would be using Icarus.

Thanks ! (However in standard 12 tone tuning, the thirds are too wide and the fifths too small. But if you don’t want to fall into an infinite maelström of pleasure and mathematical labyrinths, just use what fits your ears !)
Well, I can't really help you with your decision. It depends a lot on your style and what soundsets would actually make sense for the music you make. The synth itself comes with many really good presets. It also depends if you like to tweak sounds or mainly go for presets. If you work mainly with presets, maybe it makes sense to have a lot of them.
I recently spend a decent amount of money, and with no gigs couse of corona i was hesitated to buy this one. Yet I'm loving it! I have many and I would not (yet) say this one is the best but if you're looking for that old school sound i would highly recommend this one (and stop using Sylenth please, its overused :p )!
Very interesting stuff and amazing patches but .... I have an issue with size on logic pro x. For the first time it is ok but when i close plugin window and open it again, it looks like on the screenshot. I have the demo version and I'm thinking about buying but ... it is seriously annoying. Not sure if you were given info on this (as it's a year later at this point), but you can change the size of all their VSTs within your DAW. I have Nemesis, Gladiator and Icarus. I'm able to resize all of them in Ableton Live.
