Thanks for this video Kirby! I like striped ties but I don't like the lustre of Repp silk, so I'm going to get a Panama silk striped tie. Are there any other silk fabrics I can look out for that catch the light less? Would hopsack be a candidate? are there ancient madder striped ties? (I am aware, of course, that a silk-cotton or silk-wool will have this effect - but I"m looking for pure silk)
I love how an Hermes tie “flows”. You can spot them across a room. You may want to look at Tiecrafters in NYC they are experts at cleaning expensive ties.
@@kirbyallison thank you for the reply and your point of view. Feel welcome to come do Lisbon, Portugal, I'd be happy to tour you around the best shops :)
What a lovely video, as always. I will add a suggestion of the making of scarfs for the hanger project. Also perhaps a Q&A? I saw the stream yesterday, but perhaps an official Q&A.
@@kirbyallison Thanks! I was just in London and retraced a lot of your steps around Saville Row. Picadilly Arcade, etc. Very helpful, quite interesting.
I don't think so... certainly not here in the United States. In the UK and especially London, you could catch a little flack for wearing some well-known regimental ties, but it's a largely antiquated rule.
All handmade in England from 100% English silk. And we spend extra time during the cutting and folding process to ensure that all of our patterns are symmetric at the tip. I think it's a pretty good value, especially considering that you're supporting English craft in purchasing one of our ties. We don't send anything off to other countries to be made up, which other brands on "RU-vid" do...
those printed ties i always found the same as trying to make shoes casual, like brogues shoes which i hate. you cant make snickers or shorts formal, you cant make ties casual. my take. either go for ellegance, simple.. or formal patterns that are woven not printed, like geometric regular shapes or different stripes of colors. this is how i view stuff. i wonder if it is more of a regional view or simply some people lile them and some dont independent of culture.
