I thought this was going to be another RU-vid amateur teaching the masses about color grading, but this was not. You showed first color corrected (WB) and then did grading. That alone is extremely rare to find on YT. Vegas FB page highlighted your video, so I'm glad they picked a really good tutorial. Good tip about the color wheels at the 12:00 mark. Never knew thats what it stood for! That makes things easier for me.

I would like you to talk about two very common cases: a shot in which there are no white colors and a poorly exposed shot in which the lights are totally burned out. A color correction covering both cases would be fine.

What a brilliant tutorial. Regardless of what the final outcome is, you actually showed us how to get there and what each adjustment did, allowing us to make our own decisions on our edits. A lot of colour grading tutorials just explain how to achieve a specific look. Fantastic work. Subscribed! One quick question regarding workflow - when working on grading an entire timeline of clips, how do you work in Vegas to compare to achieve consistency? Can you show multiple vectorscopes?
@ScrapyardFilms
@ScrapyardFilms 4 года назад
As far as I know, you cannot use multiple vector scopes at the same time. You may be able to do that with 3rd party plugins. But how I achieve consistency is by creating custom luts for certain shots after I've completed the correction and the grade for the scene. I shot 3 scenes outside in the sun? Make an outdoor lut. I shot 2 scenes indoors in the kitchen? make a kitchen lut. I shot 4 shots in a dark office? make a dark office lut. You can also next a bunch of shots and then grade the nest to apply it to all footage in the nest.
@zizou4111
@zizou4111 4 года назад
@@ScrapyardFilms thanks for replying so promptly, that's really useful. I didn't think of creating my own LUT. I've been saving a Vegas media/clip FX chain as a package, but obviously that has its own cons as well. Do you have any advice for scenes that are consistently inconsistent with their grading needs? I.e a scene shot inside near a window, where clouds are coming and going in front of the sun, causing white balance and appearance of the video to change constantly?

Curious question, but i noticed when using color grading secondary, that in some videos it tends to create pixelation or at least more blocky appearances in some parts of videos. Is there a way to get rid of that but still use color grading secondary? for example, in some game play videos I've recorded, with everything in the best quality possible, the original video without color grading would have no such pixelation, but once i added color grading secondary and messed with saturation, and a few other aspects, it would tend to get blocky, especially in scenes with depth of field, or soft color changes from dark to light colors in the backgrounds, as well as light sources. I end up not using it now because of those drops in quality sadly. :(
@ScrapyardFilms
@ScrapyardFilms 5 лет назад
Color Correcting Secondary is a powerful, yet fickle tool. You have to get the settings JUST right to avoid blocky separation. Normally this happens when you use too much saturation or don't have your selected color feathered out a bit on the HUE spectrum. It just takes practice and fine tuning to get a good correction.

Actually if you wanted to grade a batch of videos, you can move them all next to each other, select them all, and right click on them and create a nest. Then go back to your main project and you can grade them all as one file.

Hi ScrapYard Films, superb channel, you have helped me so much. Can I ask one question: What is the best way to remove Noise from a video clip in Vegas pro 17?
@ScrapyardFilms
@ScrapyardFilms 4 года назад
Noise is a tricky part of video editing. The only way I know how to get rid of noise is to crush the crap out of your shadows to below the 0 line in the waveform monitor OR use a denoiser plugin like 'Neat Video V4 or DE:Noiser. If you reduce the noise too much, your video will look really odd like an oil painting. Best practice to reducing noise is during filming. Try to never go past 400 ISO when shooting in LOG and 800 ISO when shooting in Standard. Always make sure your scene is well lit, even if you're shooting a night/dark scene because you can always reduce the brightness in post.
